Frequently Asked Questions - IAN 275290 Ernesto

Can this pan be used on an induction cooktop?
Yes, it is induction compatible. Make sure to center the pan on the cooking zone and choose a suitable diameter (effective bottom approx. 225 mm for round, 205 mm for square). A slight electromagnetic noise may occur; this is normal.
How to care for and clean the enameled cast iron pan?
Allow the pan to cool before cleaning. Wash it with hot water and mild dish soap. Never use steel wool or abrasive cleaners. Dry immediately and rub the edges with a little cooking oil to prevent rust.
Can I put the pan in the oven?
Yes, it can withstand oven temperatures up to 240 °C. Place it on the oven rack, not directly on the bottom.
What should I do if food sticks or the pan turns black?
The black enamel naturally develops a brownish-black patina over time, which improves non-stick properties. Do not try to remove it. To prevent sticking, use medium heat (cast iron retains heat well) and a little fat.
Is the pan dishwasher safe?
No, the dishwasher can damage the enamel. Always hand wash.
How to prepare the pan before first use?
Boil water 2-3 times in the pan to remove manufacturing residues. Wash with hot water and dish soap, rinse, and dry. Apply a little oil or butter inside, heat on low temperature, then wipe off excess fat.
Why should I not heat the pan empty?
Heating empty can cause the enamel to chip and damage the pan. Always ensure there is at least a little fat or food in the pan when heating.
What utensils should I use with this pan?
Use wooden, silicone, or heat-resistant plastic utensils. Avoid metal or sharp objects that could scratch the enamel.
How to prevent grease from catching fire?
Never leave the pan with grease unattended. If grease catches fire, do not use water. Cover the pan with a lid or fire blanket to smother the flames.
Can I use the pan on a glass ceramic cooktop?
Yes, but always lift the pan to move it, do not slide it, to avoid scratching the cooktop. Ensure the pan bottom is clean and dry.

re that the handles may become very hot during cooking. So please use oven mitts or BBQ gloves for your protection.

Place the product when hot on a heatproof base and not on the unprotected countertop.

During cooking it is extremely important not to lose sight of the product while you are heating grease in it. Grease can overheat very quickly and ignite. In case of a grease fire, never attempt to extinguish the fire with water! Smother the flames with a lid or a thick wool blanket.

Make sure never to heat up the product while it is empty. Failure to do so may cause the enamel coating to crack.

To avoid damage to the black enamel coating, use kitchen utensils made of heat-resistant plastic or wood only. Do not cut any food directly in the product.

Never put dripping wet meats in hot grease. The resulting splashing grease may come into contact with a glowing hob and start a fire.

Caution! Always lift the product when cooking in the oven or on stoves with a glass surface (e.g. ceramic glass, halogen and induction hobs). Never slide the product on surfaces such as these, as this may cause damage to the bottom of the product, the hob or the oven.

Always adjust the size of gas flames to the bottom of the product - gas flames should NEVER burn past the product's sides.

The product is not microwavable.

The product is ovenproof! Place the product on an oven grate, not directly on the floor of the oven.
The product is not dishwasher proof.

FOOD-SAFE! The flavor and aroma of your foods are not affected by this product.

Use

Before first use, boil out the product 2 - 3 times with water to remove any production residue. Then clean the product with warm soapy water, rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly.
Brush a little oil or butter on the inside of the product. Slowly warm up the product at low temperature. Turn down the temperature as soon as the grease soaks in. Wait approx. 2 - 3 minutes until the product has cooled down and remove any excess grease.
- Do not cook or grill at high temperature. Cast iron is an excellent retainer of heat, so medium temperature is fully sufficient. Too high a temperature may lead to unsatisfactory cooking results or cause foods to stick, e.g. as with omelet.
- Do not heat up the product too quickly. Failure to do so may cause the enamel coating to crack, if the cast iron expands more quickly than the enamel.

Pleasanote: The black enamel coating will develop a brown-black film in time which improve the grilling properties of the product. This film comes from the natural oils and fats of the food you prepare in the product. Do not try to remove this film.

Information for use with induction hobs

Select a hob size that corresponds to the size of the bottom of the product to prevent heat loss.

Effective bottom size approx. 225mm (HG00751A, HG00752A round cast iron pan)
Effective bottom size approx. 205 mm (HG00751B, HG00752B rectangular cast iron grill pan)

Please note: Under certain circumstances, the electromagnetic properties of the hob and the product may cause an odor to occur. This is normal and is not indicative of damage to your induction hob or the cooking dish.
Place the product in the middle of the induction hob.

CAUTION! High heating rate! When preheating the cooking dish, be careful not to overheat.

In case of overheating, air the room thoroughly.

- Cleaning and Care

Always allow the product to cool down slightly before cleaning. Never submerge the product in cold water while it is still hot. The temperature shock may damage the enamel. Also do not fill the product with cold water.

Rinse your product with hot water and off-the-shelf detergent.
First soak any food residue and remove them using a wooden scraper, sponge or brush.
Never use any hard objects, steel wool and/or abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents such as chlorine bleach - failure to do so may damage the enamel.

Thoroughly dry the product after cleaning. From time to time, rub a little cooking oil into the rim of the product to prevent the eventual formation of rust bloom.

Store the product in a dry, well-ventilated space.
