Frequently Asked Questions - IB73 BLACK & DECKER

How to use the different blender speeds?
For 6-speed models (IB73/IB74), use low speeds for blending or chopping gently, medium speeds for mixing or beating, and high speeds for liquefying or pureeing. First select the range (Low/High) then press the desired speed (see Figure C in the manual).
How to crush ice with the IB73 blender?
Add one cup of water and up to 4 large ice cubes to the container. Hold the lid firmly with one hand and use the pulse button (Pulse) to crush. For larger quantities, add cubes one by one through the lid opening at maximum speed.
Can I wash blender parts in the dishwasher?
Yes, but only for models with a 'G' in the reference (IB73G). The container, lid, cap, and blades go on the top rack of the dishwasher. Other models should be hand washed with soapy water.
What to do if the blender does not start?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and the outlet works. Make sure the container is properly attached to the base and the lid is in place. If the problem persists, contact an authorized Black & Decker service center.
How to clean the motor base?
Unplug the appliance. Wipe the base with a damp cloth and dry it completely. Do not use abrasive products and never immerse the base in water.
What foods not to put in the blender?
Do not introduce dry spices alone, bones, large pieces of frozen food, or very hard foods as they could damage the blades or motor.
How to add ingredients while operating?
Remove the cap from the lid and insert ingredients through the opening. Never remove the lid while the appliance is running.
Is the blender suitable for mixing hot liquids?
Yes, remove the cap from the lid while blending hot liquids to avoid pressure. Keep your hands and face away from the opening.
How to store the power cord?
Wrap excess cord around the tabs located at the base of the unit (see Figure D in the manual). Do not let the cord hang from a table or counter.
Where to find an authorized Black & Decker service center?

BLACK & DECKER IB73 - IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS - 1

The Electrical Cord

The cord length of this appliance was selected to reduce safety hazards that may occur with a longer cord. If more cord length is needed, an extension cord may be used. It should be rated not less than 10 amperes, 120 volts or 6 amperes, 220 volts. When using a longer cord, be sure that it does not drape over a working area or dangle where it could be pulled on or ripped over.

Polarized Plug

(North American/Central American Models Only)

This appliance has a polarized plug—one blade is wider than the other. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse it. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature by modifying the plug in any way.

Tamper-Resistant Screw

This appliance is equipped with tamper-resistant screws to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.

Blender Jar Assembly

  1. Before first use, wash all parts except the base. Put the gasket on top of the Blade Assembly.
  2. Place the Blade Assembly into the Jar Base and turn the Jar Base clockwise until tight. Figure A
  3. Place the Jar firmly onto the Unit Base. Figure B

How to Use

  1. Be sure the unit is "off" and plug the cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Place the food to be blended into the Jar.
  3. Put the Lid on the Jar before beginning. Be sure that the Lid Cap is in place. When crushing ice or hard foods, keep one hand on the Lid.

  4. Select the desired speed setting:

  5. In general, use lower positions for gentle blending, chopping, and grinding; in 6 speed (IB73/IB74 Series), 10-speed (IB10 Series), or 12-speed (IB12 Series) models use mid-range positions for mixing, beating, and creaming. In all models use higher settings for heavy-duty blending such as liquefying or pureeing fruits. In 6, 10, or 12-speed models, press the Low/High button then, press the appropriate speed level for blending at higher settings. Figure C

  6. For quick blending tasks, press the Pulse button for a few seconds, then release. Use Pulse for best results when crushing ice.

Blender Tips

  • Cut food into small 2'' pieces (about 5cm .) before adding to the Blender. To chop and grate, cut solid foods into 1'' ( 2cm ) pieces.
  • When blending liquids, including the addition of ice cubes, limit quantity to the 4 cup (1 lt.) mark of the Jar.
  • The following items should never be placed in the unit as they may cause damage: dried spices and herbs (ground alone), bones, large pieces of solidly frozen foods, hard or tough foods.
  • For fast and easy ice crushing, add 1 cup of liquid to the Jar, add up to 4 large ice cubes. Cover holding one hand firmly on the Lid; use the Pulse button to chop. If more ice is needed, add cubes one by one through the hole in the Lid and increase to the highest speed.

How to Clean Your Blender

  1. Before cleaning, turn off and unplug the Blender.
  2. Rinse parts immediately after blending to ease cleanup.
  3. Wipe the Base with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Remove stubborn spots by rubbing with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner. Do not immerse the Base in liquid.
  4. Wash the Jar and the Lid with soap and water. Only jars on the IB10G, IB12G, IB53G, IB54G, and IB73G are dishwasher-safe.

  5. Removable parts can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher. The Lid, Lid Cap, and Blade Assembly should be placed in the top rack only. Do not place jars or parts in boiling liquids.

  6. If liquids spill into the Base, wipe the Base clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  7. Do not use rough scouring pads or cleansers on parts or finish.
