Frequently Asked Questions - d2 Professional LACIE

Why doesn't my drive appear on my desktop (Mac)?
Check that the cable is properly connected and the drive is on. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If the drive appears there, adjust Finder preferences (Show hard disks on the desktop). If the drive does not appear, restart the computer or reinstall USB 3.0 drivers.
Why doesn't my drive appear in My Computer (Windows)?
Make sure the cable is properly connected and the switch is set to ON. Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and check under Disk drives. If a yellow exclamation mark appears, update the drivers. Try another USB port or restart the computer.
How do I format my LaCie drive to use on both Windows and Mac?
Use the FAT32 file system (limited to 4 GB per file). Open Disk Utility (Mac) or Disk Management (Windows). Select the drive, erase it and choose MS-DOS (FAT) on Mac or FAT32 on Windows. Warning: formatting erases all data.
What should I do if file transfers are slow?
Check that the drive is connected to a USB 3.0 port (not USB 2.0). Disconnect other USB devices. Make sure USB 3.0 drivers are installed (download from www.lacie.com/support). If using FireWire, avoid unpowered chains.
How do I use the shortcut button on the front of the drive?
Install LaCie Desktop Manager. Open it and select the Shortcut tab. Drag and drop an application or document to associate an action with a short click. A long click toggles eco mode (not configurable). The button may affect performance; disable it in settings if necessary.
How do I enable or disable eco mode?
Open LaCie Desktop Manager and go to the Eco tab. Check or uncheck Automatic Eco mode due to inactivity. You can set the delay (default 5 minutes). Eco mode is not available via eSATA. On Mac, it can be managed via System Preferences > Energy Saver.
Can I connect the drive via multiple interfaces at the same time?
No, use only one interface at a time (USB, FireWire or eSATA). If you plug in two cables, turn off the drive, disconnect one, and turn it back on. Dual connection may cause malfunctions.
How do I back up my data before formatting?
Manually copy your files to another hard drive or use backup software. LaCie recommends keeping two copies of your data. After formatting, you can re-download utilities and manual from www.lacie.com/support.
What should I do if I lose a cable (USB 3.0, FireWire, eSATA)?
You can purchase replacement cables at www.lacie.com/accessories. A USB 2.0 cable works but limits speed. Use only the included power adapter.
How do I contact LaCie technical support?
Create an account on www.lacie.com, register your product and submit a support ticket. You can also consult interactive troubleshooting pages on www.lacie.com/support. For product returns, keep the original packaging.
