Frequently Asked Questions - Friteuse Herman den Blijker

How do I clean my Herman den Blijker fryer?
To clean your fryer, unplug it and let it cool down. Remove the basket and used oil. Wash the basket and the tank with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry before reassembling.
How much oil should I use?
The amount of oil depends on the capacity of your fryer. Generally, fill the tank up to the level indicated inside. Never exceed the maximum limit to avoid overflow.
Why isn\u0027t my fryer heating up?
Check that the fryer is properly plugged in and that the outlet is working. Also make sure the thermostat is set to the desired temperature. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
Can I use olive oil in my fryer?
It is better to use oils with a high smoke point, such as sunflower or rapeseed oil. Olive oil can burn and affect the taste of your fries.
How do I know if the oil is at the right temperature?
Use a kitchen thermometer to check the oil temperature. For crispy fries, the ideal temperature is about 175-180 6C.
Is it possible to fry frozen foods?
Yes, you can fry frozen foods, but keep in mind they may lower the oil temperature. It is advisable to fry them in small quantities for better results.
How do I prevent my fries from sticking together?
To prevent fries from sticking, make sure they are dry before placing them in the hot oil. Fry them in small batches and do not overload the basket.
The fryer smells burnt, what should I do?
A burnt smell can be caused by used oil or food residues. Clean the fryer thoroughly and change the oil. If the smell persists, check the heating elements.
Can I use my fryer outdoors?
It is recommended to use the fryer indoors on a flat and stable surface. Avoid using it outdoors, especially in windy or damp weather.
How do I store the oil after use?
Let the oil cool completely, filter it to remove food residues, and store it in an airtight container away from light and heat.

SAFETY FIRST

This appliance will become very hot when in use, keep it away from children and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities.
In the event of burns and/or scalds be sure to cool the affected area for at least 10 minutes under cold, running water. If you are uncertain about the severity, get medical assistance.
Cooking oil can catch fire when overheated. In this event cover the appliance with a fire-proof blanket or put the lids back on to kill the fire. Under no circumstances should you pour water onto the hot oil! Water and oil don't mix and the water will evaporate explosively which is potentially lethal.
This appliance is heavy when full of oil, never attempt to move it unless it has been completely cooled down. The appliance should be left to cool for a minimum of 3 hours after having been switched off prior to moving or storage. Always use the carrying handles when moving the appliance.
- Never leave the appliance unattended when in use.
- Never lean over the appliance while it is

in use, steam will pass through the filter and around the edges of the lid possibly causing severe burns to the face.

  • Never operate the appliance if there is visible damage to the power cord, plug or any other component or if it has malfunctioned in any way. Never attempt to repair the appliance and/or component parts yourself, always consult a qualified domestic appliance engineer.
  • Never use the appliance outside, it is intended for indoor household use only.

Always unplug the appliance from the mains socket after use and before cleaning. Always let the appliance cool down before cleaning.
Always use a suitable heat resistant garment such as an oven glove when opening the lid while the appliance is in use. Steam may be released when the lid is opened and hot oil can ' spit' from the oil bowl which can cause serious injury.
Always ensure the food is as dry as possible before frying. Check that there is no water in your oil before using your appliance and never add water to the oil.
The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.

POWER CORD

The power cord should never be strained or stretched.
- Ensure that the power cord is kept away from hot surfaces and sharp objects that could cause damage to it.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  • When plugging in this appliance, be aware that the 2x 2000W power used when heating the oil is the absolute limit of a single mains fuse. Operating any other appliances on the same fuse can cause it to blow as you would be overloading the mains circuit.

Refer to the cooking instructions on your food packaging for the correct temperature and frying times.
Make sure that the temperature control knob is set to the 0 (off) position.
- Remove the lid and the frying basket.
- Insert the plug into the mains socket.
To minimize the risk of the cable being trapped or pulled, coil the excess cable into the storage area at the rear of the control unit.
- Turn on the mains socket, the power indicator will light up on the appliance.
- Set the temperature control knob to the required temperature.
- Wait until the heat indicator goes dark before placing food in the appliance. The appliance will not work if the control panel is not seated correctly.
- When the heat indicator goes dark, place the food to be fried into the frying basket and gently lower the frying basket into the oil pan. Never load the fryer basket over 2/3 full. BEWARE OF HOT SPITTING OIL
Replace the lid during frying.
- When your food is fried remove the lid. Carefully lift the frying basket out of the oil pan and hook it onto the edge of the appliance allowing excess oil to drip back into the oil pan.
- When you have finished frying, replace the lid and turn the temperature switch back to the 0 (off) position. Switch off the appliance at the mains socket and remove the plug.
The oil in the appliance will need replacing regularly to ensure optimum performance. Well used oil can be dangerous as it is more likely to catch fire if left to overheat.

  • Ensure that the appliance is unplugged and completely cool, use extra caution when handling the heat element as this stays hot for some time even if the appliance appears to be completely cool. Hot oil will cause burns and will melt plastic containers. Wear suitable protective clothing and eye protection.
