USER MANUAL Complete C3 Hardfloor EcoLine MIELE

This vacuum cleaner complies with current safety re- quirements. Inappropriate use can, however, lead to per- sonal injury and damage to property. To avoid the risk of personal injury and damage to the vacuum cleaner, please read these instructions carefully before using it for the first time. They contain important information on its safety, operation and maintenance. Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future owner. Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the mains supply when you have finished using it, before changing over accessories, as well as for maintenance work and cleaning. Switch the vacuum cleaner off at the wall socket and unplug it. Correct application This vacuum cleaner is intended for cleaning flooring in domestic households and similar residential environments. This vacuum cleaner can be used for all normal cleaning of carpets, rugs and robust hard flooring. This vacuum cleaner is not intended for outdoor use. This vacuum cleaner is intended for use at altitudes of up to 4000m above sea level. The vacuum cleaner must only be used to vacuum dry floor surfaces. Do not use on people and animals. Any other usage, modification or alteration is not supported by the manufacturer and could be dangerous.en - Warning and Safety instructions

This vacuum cleaner can only be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, if they are supervised whilst us- ing it or have been shown how to use it in a safe way and understand and recognise the consequences of incorrect operation. Safety with children Danger of suffocation. Packaging, e.g. plastic wrap- pings, must be kept out of the reach of babies and chil- dren. Whilst playing, children could become entangled in packaging or pull it over their head and suffocate. Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the vacuum cleaner unless they are constantly supervised. Children 8 years and older may only use the vacuum cleaner unsupervised if they have been shown how to use it safely and recognise and understand the consequences of incorrect operation. Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the vacuum cleaner unsupervised. Please supervise children in the vicinity of the vacuum cleaner and do not let them play with it. Models with LEDs or radio controls on the handle: Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Technical safety Before using the vacuum cleaner and its accessories, check for any visible signs of damage. Do not use a dam- aged appliance.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Ensure that the connection data on the data plate of the vacuum cleaner (voltage and frequency) match the mains electricity supply exactly. The vacuum cleaner is suitable for use with 50 Hz or 60 Hz without modification. The mains electrical plug must be fitted with an appro- priate fuse. Reliable and safe operation of this vacuum cleaner can only be assured if it has been connected to the mains elec- tricity supply. While the vacuum cleaner is under warranty, repairs should only be undertaken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise the warranty will be invalidated. Do not pull or carry the vacuum cleaner by the cable, and be careful not to damage the cable when withdrawing the plug from the socket. Keep the cable away from sharp edges and do not let it get squashed, for example, under a door. Avoid running the vacuum cleaner over the cable. This could damage the cable, plug or socket. The appli- ance must not be used if any of these have suffered dam- age. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if the cable is damaged. If the cable is damaged it must be replaced together with a complete cable rewind. For safety reasons this must only be done by Miele Service or a Miele authorised service technician.en - Warning and Safety instructions

When vacuuming, in particular fine dust, e.g. sawdust, sand, plaster, flour, talcum powder etc., electrostatic charges build up naturally. Under certain conditions these charges will be released. To avoid the unpleasant effects of these discharges, a metal inlay has been incorporated into the underside of the handle. Please make sure that you keep your hand in constant contact with this metal strip during vacuuming. If your vacuum cleaner is fitted with an Eco Comfort handle, make sure you hold it by the bowed section as this is where this metal strip is incorporated. Do not let the vacuum cleaner get wet. Clean only with a dry cloth or slightly damp cloth when disconnected from the mains supply. Repairs should only be carried out by a Miele authorised service technician. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons can cause considerable danger to users. Correct use To avoid the risk of damage, do not use the vacuum cleaner without the dustbag, dust compartment filter and exhaust filter in place. The dust compartment cover will not close without a dustbag fitted. Do not force it. Do not vacuum up anything which has been burning or is still glowing e.g. cigarettes, ashes or coal, whether glow- ing or apparently extinguished.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up any water, liquid or damp dirt. Wait until any freshly cleaned or sham- pooed rugs or carpets are completely dry before attempt- ing to vacuum. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner dust. Toner, such as that used in printers and photocopiers, can conduct electricity. Do not vacuum up any inflammable or combustible li- quids or gases and do not vacuum in areas where such substances are stored. Do not vacuum at head height and do not let the suction get anywhere near a person's head. Important information on the handling of batteries (for models with LEDs or radio controls on the handle): – Do not short-circuit or recharge batteries, or throw them into a fire. – Disposing of batteries: Remove the batteries from the handle and dispose of them in a municipal recycling fa- cility. Do not dispose of batteries with normal household waste. Accessories To avoid the risk of injury when vacuuming with a Miele Turbobrush, do not touch the rotating roller brush. It is not advisable to vacuum directly with the handle, i.e. without an accessory attached as the rim could get dam- aged and you could hurt yourself on sharp edges.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Only use genuine dustbags, filters and accessories with the "ORIGINAL Miele" logo on them. Otherwise the manu- facturer cannot guarantee the safety of the product. Disposal of the packing mater- ial The packaging is designed to protect the appliance from damage during transportation. The packaging materials used are selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled. Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufactur- ing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites. Disposing of the dustbag and filters Dustbags and filters are made from en- vironmentally friendly materials, and can be disposed of with the normal house- hold waste, as long as they have been used exclusively for general household dust. Disposing of your old appli- ance Before disposing of your old appliance remove the dustbag and filters and dis- pose of them with your household waste. Electrical and electronic appliances of- ten contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, com- pounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety. These could be hazardous to hu- man health and to the environment if disposed of with your domestic waste or if handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance with your household waste. Please dispose of it at your local com- munity waste collection / recycling centre for electrical and electronic ap- pliances, or contact your dealer or Miele for advice. You are also respons- ible (by law, depending on country) for deleting any personal data that may be stored on the appliance being disposed of. Please ensure that your old appli- ance poses no risk to children while be- ing stored prior to disposal.en - Caring for the environment

Disposing of old batteries and rechargeable batteries Some electrical and electronic appli- ances contain batteries and re- chargeable batteries which, when de- pleted, must not be thrown away with your household waste. You are required by law (depending on country) to re- move any removable batteries or re- chargeable batteries and to dispose of them in a suitable recycling box for bat- teries. This service is free of charge. Batteries and rechargeable batteries contain substances which can damage human health and the environment. Further instructions regarding disposal are given on batteries and rechargeable batteries. A bin with a line through it means that the battery or rechargeable battery must on no account be dis- posed of with your household waste. A bin with a line through it which also has one or several chemical symbols on it, indicates that the battery or re- chargeable battery contains lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and/or quicksilver (Hg). 3E&G+J Old batteries and rechargeable batteries contain important raw materials which can be recycled. Disposing of batteries and rechargeable batteries separately makes them easier to handle and re- cycle.en

Notes on Delegated Regulation (EU) No. 665/2013 and 666/2013 This vacuum cleaner is a domestic va- cuum cleaner and is classified as a uni- versal vacuum cleaner in accordance with the above-mentioned regulations. These operating instructions, the EU data sheet and the online energy effi- ciency label for this vacuum cleaner are available to download from the Miele website at www.miele.com. The annual energy consumption stated on the data sheet and on the energy ef- ficiency label describes the indicative annual energy consumption (kWh per year), based on 50 cleaning cycles. Ac- tual energy consumption depends on how the vacuum cleaner is used. All tests and calculations were carried out according to the following harmon- ised standards applicable at the time in due consideration of the published reg- ulation guidelines of the European Commission from September 2014: a) EN 60312-1 Vacuum cleaners for household use - Part 1: Dry vacuum cleaners - Methods for measuring the performance. b) EN 60704-2-1 Household and similar electrical appliances - Test code for the determination of airborne acoustical noise - Part 2-1: Particular requirements for vacuum cleaners. c) EN 60335-2-2 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-2: Particular requirements for vacuum cleaner and water suction appliances Not all floorheads and accessories sup- plied with the vacuum cleaner are inten- ded for intensive cleaning of carpets or hard floors as described in the regula- tions. The following floorheads and set- tings were used to determine the val- ues: For energy consumption and cleaning class on carpet and hard floors and sound power level on carpet the univer- sal floorhead was used in the carpet position (press the footswitch). If your vacuum cleaner is supplied as standard with the SRD hard floor floor- brush, this is designed for intensive va- cuuming of hard floors with gaps and crevices and will have been used to de- termine the above values on hard floors. The values on the EU data sheet and the energy efficiency label refer exclus- ively to the combinations and settings of floorheads on the different floor sur- faces described here. Only original Miele dustbags, motor protection filters and exhaust filters were used for all measurements. Illustrations The illustrations referred to in the text are shown on the fold-out pages at the end of these operating instruc- tions.en

Preparing for use Attach the suction hose (dia. 01) Insert the hose connector into the suction socket on the vacuum cleaner until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces. To detach the suction hose (dia. 02) Press the release buttons at the side of the hose connector, and lift the hose from the socket. Connect the suction hose to the handle (dia. 03) Insert the suction hose into the handle until it clicks into position. Connect the handle to the suction tube (dia. 04) Insert the handle into the suction tube until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces. To release the handle from the suc- tion tube, press the release button and pull the handle out of the suction tube, twisting it slightly as you do so. Adjusting the telescopic suction tube (dia. 05) One part of the telescopic tube is packed inside the other, and it can be adjusted to suit your height for comfort- able vacuuming. Grasp the release mechanism and adjust the telescopic suction tube to the required length. Connect the telescopic tube to the floorhead (dia. 06) Push the telescopic tube into the floorhead and turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise until it clicks into posi- tion. To detach the floorhead from the suc- tion tube press the release button and pull the suction tube away from the floorhead, twisting it slightly as you do so. To adjust the floorhead (dia. 07, 08 + 09) This vacuum cleaner can be used for daily cleaning of carpets, rugs and ro- bust hard flooring. Miele offer a range of other floorheads, brushes and accessories for other types of flooring and special requirements (see "Optional accessories"). Please observe the flooring manu- facturer's cleaning and care instruc- tions. Vacuum carpets and rugs with the brush retracted: Press the foot control. Clean hard flooring which is not sus- ceptible to scratching, as well as floor- ing with gaps or deep crevices in it with the brush protruding: Press the foot control. If the suction power of the adjustable floorhead seems too high, reduce the suction until the floorhead is easier to manoeuvre (see "Use - To regulate the suction power").en

Using the SRD hard floorbrush (depending on model) Please observe the flooring manu- facturer's cleaning and care instruc- tions. This hard floorbrush is especially suit- able for vacuuming floors with deep gaps and crevices, e.g. old wooden flooring. Inserting batteries into the LED handle (dia. 10 + 11) (depending on model) Loosen the screws on the cover. Press down on both sides of the cover to remove it. Take out the battery holder and in- sert the three batteries supplied, making sure the polarity is correct. Refit the battery holder. Arrows are marked on the battery holder and battery compartment as a fitting aid. They should point in the same direc- tion. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. Activating the exhaust filter TimeStrip change indicator on the exhaust filter Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following exhaust filters (dia. 12). a AirClean b AirClean Plus 50 (light blue) c Active AirClean 50 (black) d HEPA AirClean 50 (white) If your vacuum cleaner is fitted with fil- ter c or d, you need to activate the ex- haust filter TimeStrip change indicator. Press the release catch for the dust compartment lid and raise the lid as far as it will go (dia. 13). Remove the indicator strip (dia. 14). Press the exhaust filter TimeStrip change indicator(dia. 15). After approx. 10 - 15 seconds, a thin red line will appear in the left hand side of the display (dia. 16). Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. How the exhaust filter timestrip works The exhaust filter timestrip indicator shows the remaining functional life of the exhaust filter. After approx. 50 oper- ating hours, or approx. one year of av- erage use, the display will be com- pletely filled with red (dia. 17).en

Using the accessories supplied (dia. 18) Crevice nozzle For cleaning in folds, crevices or corners. Dusting brush with natural bristles (only available for selected coun- tries) For cleaning skirting boards, or- nate and carved objects. The head can be swivelled to ad- just the angle. Upholstery nozzle For cleaning upholstery, mat- tresses, cushions, curtains, covers etc. Some models are supplied as standard with one of the following accessories which are not illustrated. – Turbobrush – AllergoTeQ floorhead These are supplied with their own oper- ating instructions. To open the accessories compart- ment (dia. 19) Press the release button on the ac- cessories compartment lid. The accessories compartment will then open. Take out the accessory you require. Press down firmly on the lid to close it. Dusting brush integrated in the Eco Comfort handle (dia. 20) Some models are equipped with an Eco Comfort handle. The dusting brush is suitable for vacu- uming scratch-resistant surfaces, e.g. keyboards, or vacuuming up crumbs. Press the release button on the dust- ing brush and push it out until it clearly engages in position. When you have finished dusting press the release button and push the dusting brush back into its original position until it clicks into place. Standard adjustable floorhead (dia. 21) For general use and also for vacuuming the stairs. For safety reasons when vacu- uming stairs it is best to start at the bottom of the stairs and move up- wards. Use Unwinding the mains cable (dia. 22) Pull the mains cable out to the re- quired length (max. cable length ap- prox.7.5/8.5m, depending on model). Insert the plug into the socket. If vacuuming for longer than 30 minutes, the cord must be pulled out all the way. There is a risk of over- heating and damage.en

Rewinding the cable (dia. 23) Switch off at the wall socket and withdraw the plug. Step on the cable rewind foot switch. The cable will then retract itself into the vacuum cleaner. If you do not want the cable to retract completely into the vacuum cleaner you can stop it before it does. Take hold of the end of the cable whilst re- tracting it and give it a short pull just before the end. To switch on and off (dia. 24) Press the On/Off foot control . To regulate the suction power The suction power can be regulated to suit the type of flooring being cleaned. Reducing the suction power reduces the amount of effort required to man- oeuvre the floorhead. The vacuum cleaner has symbols on the controls which indicate the type of use the settings are suitable for. The setting selected will light up yellow. Curtains, fabric Upholstery, cushions Cut pile carpets, rugs and run- ners Energy-saving vacuuming. This setting is also very quiet Loop pile carpet and rugs Hard flooring and heavily soiled carpets and rugs When using the adjustable floorhead, if the suction seems too high, reduce the suction until the floorhead is easier to manoeuvre. Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following suction power se- lectors: – Foot controls – Radio-control handle Foot controls (dia. 25) The first time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, the highest setting will be selected automatically. After that the vacuum cleaner will switch on at the setting which was used previously. Press the + foot control to select a higher setting. Press the - foot control to select a lower setting. Footswitch with Boost function (dia. 26 + 27) Some models also feature a Boost power function. This function uses in- creased power for a short period for va- cuuming both fine and coarse stubborn soiling. Press the + footswitch until the max- imum power level has been reached. Then press the + footswitch again. This activates the Boost function for 20 seconds. The Boost indicator will light up yellow. You now have the following options:en

Press the - footswitch before the 20 seconds have elapsed. This switches the Boost function off and activates maximum power. Press the + footswitch again once the 20 seconds have elapsed. This activates the Boost function a second time for 20 seconds. It can be activated three times in a row. After that, a pause of one minute is required before reactivating it. Using the Boost power setting changes the actual power consump- tion (see "Notes on Delegated Regu- lation (EU) No. 665/2013 and 666/2013"). Radio-control handle (dia. 28) When the vacuum cleaner is switched on with the On/Off foot control , the Standby indicator on the vacuum cleaner will light up yellow. Press the Standby button on the handle. The Standby indicator on the va- cuum cleaner will go out. The first time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, the highest setting will be selected automatically. After that the vacuum cleaner will switch on at the setting which was used previously. Press the + button to select a higher suction power level. Press the - button to select a lower suction power level. Radio-control handle with Boost function Some models also feature a Boost power function. This function uses in- creased power for a short period for va- cuuming both fine and coarse stubborn soiling. Press the + switch until the maximum power level has been reached. Then press the + switch again. This activates the Boost function for 20 seconds. The Boost indicator on the va- cuum cleaner will light up yellow. You now have the following options: Press the - switch before the 20 seconds have elapsed. This switches the Boost function off and activates maximum power. Press the + switch again once the 20 seconds have elapsed. This activates the Boost function a second time for 20 seconds. It can be activated three times in a row. After that, a pause of one minute is required before reactivating it. Opening the air inlet valve (dia. 29 + 30) (not on models with LEDs or radio con- trols on the handle, or Eco Comfort handles)en

It is easy to reduce the suction power for a short time, e.g. to prevent rugs or other objects being sucked into the va- cuum cleaner. Open the air inlet valve on the handle far enough to reduce the suction power. The floorhead will be easier to man- oeuvre. During vacuuming When vacuuming, pull the cleaner be- hind you on its wheels. You can stand it upright for vacuuming stairs and curtains etc. When vacuuming, in particular fine dust, e.g. sawdust, sand, plaster, flour, talcum powder etc., electro- static charges build up naturally. Un- der certain conditions these charges will be released. To avoid the un- pleasant effects of these discharges, a metal inlay has been incorporated into the underside of the handle. Please make sure that you keep your hand in constant contact with this metal strip during vacuuming. If your vacuum cleaner is fitted with an Eco Comfort handle, make sure you hold it by the bowed section as this is where this metal strip is incorporated (dia. 31, 32 + 33). Interrupting operation (dia. 28) (for models with radio controls on the handle) The vacuum cleaner can be paused for short breaks whilst vacuuming. Press the Standby button on the handle. The Standby button is designed to pause the vacuum cleaner for short periods of time whilst vacuum- ing. Do not leave the vacuum cleaner in Standby mode for long periods. Otherwise there is a risk of overheat- ing and damage. An LED will indicate each time a button is pressed on the handle. At the end of the pause you can do one of the following: Press the Standby button again to switch the vacuum cleaner back on at the setting you were using before pausing it. Press the + button to switch the va- cuum cleaner back on using the highest power setting. Press the - button to switch the va- cuum cleaner back on using the low- est power setting. Illuminating the work area (dia. 34) (for models with the LED handle) Your vacuum cleaner is equipped with an LED on the handle to illuminate the work area. Press the button on the LED handle. The lighting will switch itself off auto- matically after approx. 30 seconds.en

Setting down, transportation and storage Park System for pauses during vacu- uming (dia. 35) The Park System allows you to conveni- ently park the suction tube and floor- head during pauses. Slot the floorhead or floorbrush into the parking attachment on the va- cuum cleaner. If your vacuum cleaner is on a slop- ing surface, e.g. a ramp, retract the telescopic tube fully. Park system On/Off switch Some models are fitted with an On/Off switch in the Park system. The vacuum cleaner switches off auto- matically when the floorhead or floor- brush is slotted into the parking attach- ment. When it is removed from the parking attachment, the vacuum cleaner switches back on at the previ- ously selected power level. Park system for storage (dia. 36) Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical supply when you have finished using it. Switch it off at the wall socket and unplug it. Stand the vacuum cleaner upright. Retract the telescopic tube fully so that the vacuum cleaner takes up less room for storage. Slot the floorhead downwards into one of the parking attachments on the side of the vacuum cleaner. This makes the vacuum cleaner easier to carry or store. Maintenance Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical supply for maintenance work and for cleaning. Switch off at the wall socket and un- plug it. The Miele filtration system consists of three components: – Original Miele dustbag – Motor protection filter – Original Miele exhaust filter These will need to be replaced from time to time to ensure that your vacuum cleaner performs efficiently. We recommend only using genuine dustbags, filters and accessories with the "ORIGINAL Miele" logo on them. This will ensure that the suc- tion power of the vacuum cleaner is maintained, giving the best possible cleaning results. Dustbags with the "ORIGINAL Miele" logo on them are not made from pa- per or paper-based materials and nor do they have a cardboard collar. This is why our dustbags are particularly long-lasting and reliable. Please note that appliance faults and damage originating from the use of accessories which do not carry the "ORIGINAL Miele" logo will not be covered by the appliance guarantee.en

Purchasing new dustbags and filters Original Miele dustbags and filters are available from the Miele webshop, the Miele Spare Parts Department and your Miele dealer. Ordering the correct dustbags and filters Only use original Miele GN dustbags with a blue collar and original Miele fil- ters. These are identified by the "ORI- GINAL Miele" logo on the packaging. Every packet of original Miele dustbags contains four dustbags, one AirClean exhaust filter and one motor protection filter. Original Miele multipacks contain 16 dustbags, four AirClean exhaust fil- ters and four motor protection filters. Original Miele exhaust filters can also be purchased separately from the Miele Spare Parts Dept. or your Miele dealer. Please quote the model number of your vacuum cleaner when ordering to make sure you get the correct filter. You can also order all accessories via the Miele webshop. When to change the dustbag (dia. 37) Change the dustbag when the colour marker in the dustbag change indicator turns red, or sooner if it is no longer ef- fective (see possible reasons for this below). Miele dustbags are disposable and designed for single use only. Dispose of the dustbag when full. Do not at- tempt to reuse. Blocked pores in used dustbags will reduce the suc- tion power of the vacuum cleaner. To check the dustbag change indic- ator Attach the standard adjustable floor- head to the vacuum cleaner. Switch the vacuum cleaner on and select the highest power setting. Lift the floorhead off the floor a little. How the dustbag change indicator works The dustbag change indicator is set for normal household dust. This generally contains a mixture of dust, hair, threads, carpet fluff, grit etc. However, if the cleaner has been used to vacuum up fine dust, such as plaster, brick dust, cement or flour, the pores of the dustbag will become blocked very quickly. This affects the air permeability of the bag, and the marker will indicate that the bag is "full" even when it is not. If this happens you must still change the dustbag because suction power will be greatly reduced by blocked pores in the dustbag. If, on the other hand, a large amount of hair and carpet fluff which typically con- tains a lot of air is vacuumed up, the in- dicator may fail to react even though the bag is full. For this reason, youen

should check the dustbag regularly and change it if necessary. Both these ex- tremes can occur. How to replace the dustbag (dia. 38 + 39) Press the release catches at the side of the hose connector, and lift the hose from the socket (dia. 02). Lift the release catch for the dust compartment lid and raise the lid as far as it will go (dia. 13). The dustbag has a flap which closes automatically when the dust compart- ment lid is raised to prevent any dust escaping. Pull the dustbag out by the grip on the collar. Fit the new dustbag in the blue holder as far as it will go. Leave it fol- ded up when you take it out of the box. Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. A safety device prevents the lid clos- ing without a dustbag in place. Do not use force! Insert the hose connector into the suction socket on the vacuum cleaner until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces (dia. 01). When to change the motor protection filter Replace this filter every time you start a new packet of dustbags. Every packet of original Miele dustbags contains a motor protection filter. Mul- tipacks contain four motor protection filters. How to change the dust compart- ment filter (dia. 40) Open the dust compartment lid. Pull the dustbag out by the grip on the collar. Open the blue filter frame fully and remove the old filter. Hold by the clean, unsoiled section to remove it. Replace with a new dust compart- ment filter. Close the filter frame. Fit the dustbag into the blue holder as far as it will go. Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. When to replace the exhaust filter Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following exhaust filters (dia. 12). a AirClean Replace this filter every time you start a new packet of dustbags. bAirClean Plus 50 (light blue) Replace this filter after approx. one year. Make a note of the date on the fil- ter. cActive AirClean 50 (black) dHEPA AirClean 50 (white) Replace this filter when the exhaust fil- ter TimeStrip change indicator is com- pletely red (dia. 17). The indicator lights up after approximately 50 hours of op- eration, which is equivalent to about a year of average use. You can continue vacuuming when the light comes on. However, the suction power will be re- duced as will the effectiveness of the fil- ter if it is not replaced in good time. How to replace the AirClean filter (dia. 41 + 42) Do not use more than one exhaust fil- ter at a time. Open the dust compartment lid. Press the release catch on the filter grille and open the grille until it clicks. Grasp the used AirClean filter by one of the clean, unsoiled sections and take it out. Replace it with a new AirClean ex- haust filter. If you wish to fit an AirClean Plus50,Active AirClean 50 or HEPA AirClean 50 filter, see "Replacing one type of exhaust filter with another". Close the filter grille. Close the dust compartment lid. Replacing the AirClean Plus 50, Active AirClean 50 and HEPA AirClean 50 exhaust filters (dia. 43 + 44) Do not use more than one exhaust fil- ter at a time. Open the dust compartment lid. Lift the exhaust filter and remove it. Insert a new exhaust filter, making it sure it goes in properly, then push it down into position. If you are using exhaust filter c or d, press the exhaust filter TimeStrip change indicator (dia. 15). After approx. 10 - 15 seconds, a thin red line will appear in the left hand side of the display for both exhaust filters (dia. 16). If you wish to fit an AirClean filter, see "Replacing one type of exhaust filter with another". Close the dust compartment lid. 1. If you wish to replace exhaust filter a

with filter b, c or d, it is essential that you remove the filter grille before you fit the new exhaust filter. If you are using exhaust filter c or d, you must also activate the exhaust filter TimeStrip change indicator (dia. 15).

2. If you wish to replace exhaust filter b,

c or d with filter a, it is essential that you also fit the filter grille * (dia. 42).

• Filter grille - see "Optional ac- cessories" Maintenance indicator with reset but- ton (dia. 45) Some models are fitted with a mainten- ance indicator. The indicator lights up after approx. 50 hours of operation, which is equivalent to about a year of average use. The level of soiling of the dust compartment filter and the exhaust filter must be checked at this point. If the filters are replaced, the indicator must be reset. To do this the vacuum cleaner must be switched on. Press the reset button. The maintenance indicator will go out and reset to zero. The indicator can only be reset by pressing the reset button after the light has come on. Pressing the but- ton at any other time will have no ef- fect. When to change the battery in the ra- dio-control handle Approximately every 18 months. One 3 V battery (CR 2032) is required. The vacuum cleaner can still be used when the battery has run out or if there is no battery fitted. To do so, switch the vacuum cleaner on using the On/Off foot control . The Standby indicator on the va- cuum cleaner will light up yellow. Press the restart button on the va- cuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner can continue to be used in this way, but only at maximum power. Keep batteries out of the reach of children. A swallowed battery can cause injury and even death. Even flat batteries can still be dangerous. If you suspect a child has swallowed a battery, seek medical advice immediately*. Exam- ine devices and make sure the bat- tery compartment is correctly se- cured, e.g. that the screw or other mechanical fastener is tightened. Do not use if compartment is not secure.

Replace the battery with a new one, making sure the polarity is correct. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. Dispose of the old battery in a muni- cipal recycling facility. When to replace the batteries in the LED handle Replace the batteries when necessary. You will need three 1.5 V (AAA) batter- ies. How to replace the batteries in the LED handle (dia. 10 + 11) Loosen the screws on the cover. Press down on both sides of the cover to remove it. Take out the battery holder and in- sert the three batteries supplied, making sure the polarity is correct. Refit the battery holder. Arrows are marked on the battery holder and battery compartment as a fitting aid. They should point in the same direc- tion. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. When to change the thread lifters (not possible on EcoTeQ Plus floor- heads) The thread lifters on the suction inlet to the floorhead can be replaced. Check them from time to time and replace them if the pile has worn down. How to replace the thread lifters (dia. 47) Use a suitable screwdriver to remove the thread lifters from the slots. Fit new thread lifters. Cleaning the roller on the AllTeQ floorhead (dia. 48) Release the bearing (with bayonet fit- ting) using a coin. Press the bearing out, and remove. Remove the roller. Remove any threads and hair, replace the roller and refit the bearing, locking it back into position. Replacement parts are available from your Miele dealer or from the Miele Spare Parts Dept. Cleaning and care Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical supply be- fore cleaning it. Switch off at the wall socket and unplug it. Vacuum cleaner and accessories The vacuum cleaner and all plastic ac- cessories can be cleaned with a propri- etary cleaner suitable for plastic. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, glass cleaning agents, all- purpose cleaners or oil-based condi- tioning agents.en

Dust compartment The dust compartment can, if neces- sary, be cleaned using a dry duster, brush or, if available, a second vacuum cleaner to vacuum the dust out. Do not let the vacuum cleaner get wet. If moisture gets into the ap- pliance, there is a risk of electric shock.en

Problem solving guide Many malfunctions and faults that can occur in daily operation can be easily remedied. Time and money will be saved because a service call will not be needed. The following guide may help you to find the reason for a malfunction or a fault, and to correct it. Problem Cause and remedy The vacuum cleaner switches off automatic- ally. On certain models, the overheating warning light also comes on . A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. This can occur if, for instance, large articles block the suction tube or when the dustbag is full or contains particles of fine dust. A heavily soiled exhaust or dust compartment filter can also be the cause of overheating. Switch the vacuum cleaner off immediately using the On/Off foot control . Disconnect from the electricity supply. Switch off at the wall socket and unplug it. After removing the cause, wait for approximately 20 - 30 minutes to allow the vacuum cleaner to cool down. It can then be switched on again. Electrical connection for the UK All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current national and local safety regulations (BS 7671 in the UK). The voltage and fre- quency are given on the data plate loc- ated underneath the vacuum cleaner. Please ensure that these match the household mains supply. The fuse rat- ing is quoted on the plug. The appli- ance is supplied with a cable and moul- ded plug ready for connection to a 230-240 V/50 Hz a.c. single phase sup- ply. Non-rewireable plugs BS 1363 The fuse cover must be re-fitted when changing the fuse, and if the fuse cover is lost the plug must not be used until a suitable replacement is obtained. The colour of the correct replacement cover is that of the coloured insert in the base of the plug, or the colour that is em- bossed in words on the base of the plug, (as applicable to the design of plug fitted).
