This vacuum cleaner conforms to current safety require- ments. Inappropriate use can lead to personal injury and damage to property. Please read the operating instructions before using the vacuum cleaner for the first time. They contain important information on the safety, use and maintenance of the vacuum cleaner. This will prevent both personal injury and damage to the appliance. In accordance with standard IEC60335-1, Miele ex- pressly and strongly advises that you read and follow the instructions in the “Connection” chapter as well as the safety instructions and warnings. Miele cannot be held liable for injury or damage caused by non-compliance with these instructions. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future owner. Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the power supply when you have finished using it, before changing any accessories, as well as for maintenance work, clean- ing and troubleshooting. Correct application This vacuum cleaner is intended for cleaning flooring in domestic households and similar residential environments. This vacuum cleaner is not suitable for use on construction sites. This vacuum cleaner can be used for all normal cleaning of carpets, rugs and robust hard flooring. This vacuum cleaner is not intended for outdoor use. This vacuum cleaner is intended for use at altitudes of up to 4000m above sea level. The vacuum cleaner must only be used to vacuum dry floor surfaces. Do not vacuum people or animals. Any other types of use, modifications or alterations are not per- mitted. The vacuum cleaner can only be used by people (includ- ing children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, if they are supervised whilst using it or have been shown how to use it in a safe way and understand and recognise the con- sequences of incorrect operation. Safety with children Danger of suffocation. Packaging, e.g. plastic wrap- pings, must be kept out of the reach of babies and chil- dren. Whilst playing, children could become entangled in packaging or pull it over their head and suffocate. Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the vacuum cleaner unless they are constantly supervised.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Children aged 8 and older may only use the vacuum cleaner without supervision if they have been shown how to use it in a safe manner. Children must be able to under- stand and recognise the possible dangers caused by in- correct operation. Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the vacuum cleaner unsupervised. Please supervise children in the vicinity of the vacuum cleaner and do not let them play with it. Models with LEDs or radio controls on the handle: Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Technical safety Before using the vacuum cleaner and its accessories, check for any visible signs of damage. Do not use a dam- aged appliance. Compare the connection data on the data plate of the vacuum cleaner (mains voltage and frequency) with that of the mains electricity supply. This data must match exactly. Without modifications, the vacuum cleaner is suitable for 50Hz or 60Hz. The mains electrical plug must be fitted with an appro- priate fuse. AUS/NZ: The mains electrical outlet must be fitted with an appropriate circuit breaker.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Temporary or permanent operation on an autonomous power supply system or a power supply system that is not synchronised with the mains power supply (e.g. island net- works, back-up systems) is possible. A prerequisite for op- eration is that the power supply system complies with the specifications of EN50160 or an equivalent standard. The function and operation of the protective measures provided in the domestic electrical installation and in this Miele product must also be maintained in isolated opera- tion or in operation that is not synchronised with the mains power supply, or these measures must be replaced by equivalent measures in the installation. As described, for example, in the current version of BS OHSAS 18001–2 ISO

AUS/NZ: Temporary or permanent operation with a self- sufficient or non-mains synchronous energy supply system (e.g. isolated networks, back-up systems) is possible. A re- quirement for the operation is that the energy supply sys- tem complies with all current local and national require- ments that apply to stand-alone, solar and/or battery sys- tems. The protective measures provided in the domestic installa- tion and in this Miele product must also be assured in their function and operation in isolated operation or in non- mains synchronous operation, or replaced with equivalent measures in the installation. While the vacuum cleaner is under warranty, repairs should only be undertaken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise the warranty will be invalidated.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Do not use the vacuum cleaner if the cable is damaged. If the cable is damaged it must be replaced together with a complete cable rewind. For safety reasons this must only be done by Miele Service or a Miele authorised service technician. Do not pull or carry the vacuum cleaner by the cable, and be careful not to damage the cable when withdrawing the plug from the socket. Keep the cable away from sharp edges and do not let it get squashed, for example, under a door. Avoid running the vacuum cleaner over the cable. This could damage the cable, plug or socket. The appli- ance must not be used if any of these have suffered dam- age. Repairs should only be carried out by a Miele authorised service technician. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons can cause considerable danger to users. Cleaning Do not let the vacuum cleaner get wet. Clean only with a dry cloth or slightly damp cloth when disconnected from the mains supply. Correct use To avoid the risk of damage, do not use the vacuum cleaner without the dustbag, dust compartment filter and exhaust filter in place. The dust compartment cover will not close without a dustbag fitted. Do not force it.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Before closing the dust compartment lid, make sure that the dustbag has been inserted so that it has clicked into position. Do not vacuum up anything which has been burning or is still glowing e.g. cigarettes, ashes or coal, whether glow- ing or apparently extinguished. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner dust. Toner, such as that used in printers and photocopiers, can conduct electricity. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up any water, liquid or damp dirt. Wait until any freshly cleaned or sham- pooed rugs or carpets are completely dry before attempt- ing to vacuum. Do not vacuum up any inflammable or combustible li- quids or gases and do not vacuum in areas where such substances are stored. Do not vacuum at head height and do not let the suction get anywhere near a person's head. Important information on the handling of batteries (for models with LEDs or radio controls on the handle): - Do not short-circuit or recharge batteries, or throw them into a fire. - Disposing of batteries: Remove the batteries from the handle and dispose of them in a municipal recycling fa- cility. Do not dispose of batteries with normal household waste.en - Warning and Safety instructions

Accessories and spare parts To avoid the risk of injury when vacuuming with a Miele Turbobrush, do not touch the rotating roller brush. It is not advisable to vacuum directly with the handle, i.e. without an accessory attached as the rim could get dam- aged and you could hurt yourself on sharp edges. Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when genuine Miele replacement parts are used. Faulty components must only be replaced with genuine Miele re- placement parts. Only use dustbags, filters and accessories bearing the “ORIGINAL Miele” logo on the packaging. The manufac- turer cannot otherwise guarantee the safety of the product. Transport The packaging material protects the vacuum cleaner from transport damage. We recommend you keep the packaging for transport purposes.en - Guide to the appliance

Disposing of sales packaging The packaging material protects the va- cuum cleaner from transport damage. The packaging materials used are se- lected from materials which are environ- mentally friendly for disposal and can therefore be recycled. Recycling the packaging material re- duces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also re- duces the amount of waste in landfill sites. Ensure that any plastic wrap- pings, bags, etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation. Disposing of the dustbag and filters Dustbags and filters are made from en- vironmentally friendly materials, and can be disposed of with the normal house- hold waste, as long as they have been used exclusively for general household dust. Disposing of your old appli- ance Before disposing of your old appliance remove the dustbag and filters and dis- pose of them with your household waste. Electrical and electronic appliances of- ten contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, com- pounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety. These could be hazardous to hu- man health and to the environment if disposed of with your domestic waste or if handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance with your household waste. Please dispose of it at your local com- munity waste collection / recycling centre for electrical and electronic ap- pliances, or contact your dealer or Miele for advice. You are also respons- ible (by law, depending on country) for deleting any personal data that may be stored on the appliance being disposed of. Please ensure that your old appli- ance poses no risk to children while be- ing stored prior to disposal.en - Caring for the environment

Disposing of old batteries In many cases, electrical and electronic appliances contain batteries which must not be disposed of with house- hold waste after use. You are legally ob- liged (depending on country) to remove any old batteries which are not securely enclosed by the vacuum cleaner and to take them to a suitable collection point (e.g. retailer) where they can be handed in free of charge. Insulate the metal contacts with adhesive tape to prevent short circuits. Batteries may contain substances which can be hazardous to human health and the environment. Used batteries must be kept away from children while awaiting disposal and must be disposed of in a safe manner. The labelling on the battery will provide further information. The bin symbol with a cross through it means that the bat- teries must not be disposed of in household waste. A bin with a cross through it which also has one or more chemical symbols on it indicates that the battery contains lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and/or mercury (Hg). 3E&G+J Old batteries contain valuable raw ma- terials which can be recycled. Dispos- ing of batteries separately makes them easier to handle and recycle.en

Notes on the European Regu- lation (EU) No. 666/2013 This vacuum cleaner is a domestic va- cuum cleaner and is classified as a uni- versal vacuum cleaner in accordance with the above-mentioned regulation. These operating instructions and addi- tional information are available to down- load from the Miele website at www.miele.com. The annual energy consumption stated in the regulation describes the indicat- ive annual energy consumption (kWh per year), based on 50 cleaning cycles. Actual energy consumption depends on how the vacuum cleaner is used. All tests and calculations were carried out according to the following harmon- ised standards applicable at the time in due consideration of the published reg- ulation guidelines of the European Commission from September 2014: a) EN60312-1 Vacuum cleaners for household use – Part 1: Dry vacuum cleaners – Methods for measuring the performance. b) EN60704-2-1 Household and similar electrical appliances – Test code for the determination of airborne acoustical noise – Part 2-1: Particular requirements for vacuum cleaners. c) EN60335-2-2 Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2-2: Particular requirements for vacuum cleaner and water suction appliances. Not all floorheads and accessories sup- plied with the vacuum cleaner are inten- ded for intensive cleaning of carpets or hard floors as described in the regula- tion. The following floorhead and setting were used to determine the values: For energy consumption and cleaning class on carpet and hard floors and sound power level on carpet, the ad- justable floorhead was used with the brush retracted (press the foot- switch). The data given in the regulation refers exclusively to the combinations and settings of the floorhead on the different floor surfaces described here. Only original Miele dustbags, motor protection filters and exhaust filters were used for all measurements. Illustrations The illustrations referred to in the text are shown on the fold-out pages at the end of these operating instruc- tions. Connection Attaching the suction hose (Fig. 01+02) Insert the hose connector into the suction opening on the vacuum cleaner until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces. If you want to separate the pieces again, press the release catches at the side of the hose connector, and pull the suction hose out of the suc- tion opening.en

Connecting the suction hose to the handle (Fig. 03) Insert the suction hose into the handle until it clicks into position. Connecting the handle to the suction tube(Fig. 04) Insert the handle into the suction tube until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces. To detach the handle from the suction tube, press the release catch and pull the handle out of the suction tube, twisting it slightly as you do so. Connecting the telescopic tube to the floorhead (Fig. 05) Push the telescopic tube into the floorhead and turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise until it clicks into posi- tion. To detach the floorhead from the suc- tion tube press the release button and pull the suction tube away from the floorhead, twisting it slightly as you do so. Inserting batteries into the LED handle (Fig. 06+07) (depending on model) Loosen the screw on the cover. Press in the sides of the cover to re- lease the retainers and remove the cover. Take out the battery holder and in- sert the 3 batteries supplied. Make sure the polarity is correct. Refit the battery holder. Arrows are marked on the battery holder and battery compartment as a fitting aid. They should point in the same direc- tion. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. Activating the timestrip® filter change indicator on the exhaust filter Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following exhaust filters (Fig. 08): a AirClean b AirClean Plus50 (light blue) c Silence AirClean50 (grey) d Active AirClean50 (black) e HEPA AirClean50 (white) If your vacuum cleaner is fitted with ex- haust filter c, d or e, you need to activ- ate the timestrip® filter change indic- ator. Press the release catch in the re- cessed grip for the dust compartment lid and raise the lid as far as it will go (Fig. 09). Remove the indicator strip (Fig. 10). Press the timestrip® filter change in- dicator(Fig. 11). After approx. 10–15seconds, a thin red line will appear in the left-hand side of the display (Fig. 12).en

Damage due to contamination in the dust compartment Large quantities of dust may enter the dust compartment and damage components if the dustbag has not clicked into position. Before closing the dust compartment lid, make sure that the dustbag has been inserted so that it has clicked into position. Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. How the exhaust filter timestrip® change indicator works The exhaust filter timestrip® change in- dicator shows the remaining functional life of the exhaust filter. After approx. 50 operating hours the display will be com- pletely filled with red (Fig. 13). 50 oper- ating hours equates to approximately one year of use. Using the supplied accessories (Fig. 14) Crevice nozzle For cleaning in folds, crevices or corners. Dusting brush For cleaning skirting boards, as well as ornate, carved or particu- larly delicate objects. The head can be swivelled to ad- just the angle. Upholstery nozzle For cleaning upholstery, mat- tresses, cushions, curtains, etc. Certain models are supplied as stand- ard with a turbobrush which is not illus- trated. The turbobrush is supplied with its own set of operating instructions. Removing accessories (Fig. 15) Press the release button on the ac- cessories compartment lid. The accessories compartment will then open. Take out the accessory you require. Press down firmly on the lid to close it. Use Adjusting the dusting brush integ- rated in the Eco Comfort handle (Fig. 16) Some models are equipped with an Eco Comforthandle. The dusting brush is suitable for vacu- uming scratch-resistant surfaces, e.g. keyboards or vacuuming up crumbs. Press the release button on the dust- ing brush and push the brush out un- til it clearly engages in position. When you have finished dusting press the release button and push the brush back into its original position until it clicks into place. Adjusting the telescopic suction tube(Fig. 17) One part of the telescopic suction tube is packed inside the other, and it can be adjusted to suit your height for comfort- able vacuuming.en

Grasp the release mechanism and adjust the telescopic suction tube to the required length. Adjusting the floorhead (Fig.18,19+20) Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the floorheads illustrated. This vacuum cleaner can be used for daily cleaning of carpets, rugs and ro- bust hard floors. Miele offers a range of other floorheads, brushes and accessories for other types of flooring and special applications (see “Optional accessories”). Please observe the flooring manu- facturer’s cleaning and care instruc- tions. Clean even hard floors which are not susceptible to scratching, as well as flooring with gaps or deep crevices in it with the brush protruding: Press the footswitch. Vacuum carpets and rugs with the brush retracted: Press the footswitch. If the suction power of the adjustable floorhead seems too high, reduce the suction until the floorhead is easier to manoeuvre (see “Use” – “Regulat- ing the suction power”). Adjustable floorhead (Fig. 21) The adjustable floorhead can also be used for vacuuming the stairs. Risk of injury caused by falling vacuum cleaner. You may be injured if the vacuum cleaner should fall from the stairs. When vacuuming stairs, it is best to start at the bottom of the stairs and move upwards. Unwinding the mains cable (Fig. 22) Pull the mains cable out to the re- quired length. Insert the plug into the socket. Risk of damage due to overheat- ing. The mains cable may overheat after a long period of use. If vacuuming for longer than 30minutes, the cable must be pulled out all the way. Rewinding the cable (Fig. 23) Switch off at the wall socket and un- plug it. Step briefly on the cable rewind foot- switch. The cable will then retract itself fully into the vacuum cleaner. If you do not want the cable to retract completely into the vacuum cleaner you can stop it before it does. To do this, take hold of the cable whilst re- tracting it and give it a short pull when you want the rewinding to end. Switching on and off (Fig. 24) Press the On/Off footswitch.en

To regulate the suction power The suction power can be regulated to suit the type of flooring being cleaned. Reducing the suction power reduces the amount of effort required to man- oeuvre the floorhead. The vacuum cleaner has symbols on the controls which indicate the type of use the settings are suitable for. The setting selected will light up yellow. Curtains, fabric Upholstery, cushions Cut pile carpets, rugs and run- ners Energy-saving vacuuming. This setting is also very quiet Loop pile carpet and rugs Hard flooring and heavily soiled carpets and rugs When using the adjustable floorhead, if the suction seems too high, reduce the suction power until the floorhead is easier to manoeuvre. Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following suction power se- lectors. - Footswitches - Footswitch with the option of select- ing interim suction power levels - Footswitch with Boost function - Radio-control handle - Radio-control handle with Boost function Foot controls (Fig. 25) The first time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, the highest setting will be selected automatically. After that the vacuum cleaner will switch on at the setting which was used previously. Press the + foot control to select a higher setting. Press the - foot control to select a lower setting. Footswitches with the option of se- lecting interim suction power levels Some models also offer the option of selecting power levels in between the standard 6 settings. To activate this function Press the + footswitch until the max- imum power level has been reached. Keep the – footswitch pressed until the symbol for the lower power level starts to flash. Then release the footswitch. You can also activate this function from the lowest power level. To do so press and hold the + footswitch, until the symbol for the higher power level starts to flash. To select an interim power setting Press the – or + footswitch until the required power level has been reached. After a minute without touching a con- trol, the suction power interim setting will be saved to the next highest or low- est setting. The flashing will stop.en

The next time the vacuum cleaner is used it will switch on with the saved in- terim suction power level. This setting will be deleted if you then select one of the standard 6 power levels. Footswitch with Boost function (Fig. 26+27) Some models also feature a Boost power function. This function uses in- creased power for a short period for va- cuuming both fine and coarse stubborn soiling. Press the + footswitch until the max- imum power level has been reached. Then press the + footswitch again. This activates the Boost function for 20 seconds. The Boost indicator will light up yellow. You now have the following options: Press the - footswitch before the 20 seconds have elapsed. This switches the Boost function off and activates maximum power. Press the + footswitch again once the 20 seconds have elapsed. This activates the Boost function a second time for 20 seconds. It can be activated three times in a row. After that, a pause of one minute is required before reactivating it. Using the Boost power level changes the actual power consumption (see “Notes on the European Regulation (EU) No. 666/2013”). Radio-control handle (Fig. 28) When the vacuum cleaner is switched on with the On/Off foot control , the Standby indicator on the vacuum cleaner will light up yellow. Press the Standby button on the handle. The Standby indicator on the va- cuum cleaner will go out. The first time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, the highest setting will be selected automatically. After that the vacuum cleaner will switch on at the setting which was used previously. Press the + button to select a higher suction power level. Press the - button to select a lower suction power level. Radio-control handle with Boost function Some models also feature a Boost power function. This function uses in- creased power for a short period for va- cuuming both fine and coarse stubborn soiling. Press the + control until the maximum power level has been reached. Then press the + control again. This activates the Boost function for 20 seconds. The Boost indicator on the va- cuum cleaner will light up yellow You now have the following options: Press the - control before the 20 seconds have elapseden

This switches the Boost function off and activates maximum power. Press the + control again once the 20 seconds have elapsed This activates the Boost function for an- other 20 seconds. It can be activated three times in a row. After that a pause of one minute is required before reactiv- ating it. Using the Boost power level changes the actual power consumption (see “Notes on the European Regulation (EU) No. 666/2013”). Opening the air inlet valve (Fig. 29+30) (not on models with LEDs or radio con- trols on the handle, or Eco Comfort handles) It is easy to reduce the suction power for a short time, e.g. to prevent rugs or other objects being sucked into the va- cuum cleaner. Open the air inlet valve on the handle far enough to reduce the suction power. The floorhead will be easier to man- oeuvre. During vacuuming When vacuuming, pull the cleaner be- hind you on its wheels. You can stand it upright for vacuuming stairs and curtains etc. Interrupting operation (Fig. 28) (for models with radio controls on the handle) The vacuum cleaner can be paused for short breaks whilst vacuuming. Press the Standby button on the handle. The Standby button is designed to pause the vacuum cleaner for short periods of time whilst vacuum- ing. Do not leave the vacuum cleaner in Standby mode for long periods. This can cause overheating and damage. An LED will indicate each time a button is pressed on the handle. At the end of the pause you can do one of the following: Press the Standby button again to switch the vacuum cleaner back on at the setting you were using before pausing it. Press the + button to switch the va- cuum cleaner back on using the highest power setting. Press the - button to switch the va- cuum cleaner back on using the low- est power setting. Illuminating the work area (Fig. 31) (for models with the LED handle) Your vacuum cleaner is equipped with an LED on the handle to illuminate the work area. Press the button on the LED handle. The lighting will switch itself off auto- matically after approx. 30 seconds.en

Setting down, transportation and storage Park system for pauses during vacu- uming (Fig. 32) The Park system allows you to conveni- ently park the suction tube and floor- head during pauses. Slot the floorhead or floorbrush into the parking attachment on the va- cuum cleaner. If your vacuum cleaner is on a slop- ing surface, e.g. a ramp, retract the telescopic tube fully. Park system On/Off switch Some models are fitted with an On/Off switch in the park system. The vacuum cleaner switches off auto- matically when the floorhead is slotted into the park system with the park at- tachment. When the floorhead is re- moved the vacuum cleaner will switch back on automatically and will operate with the previously selected setting (not applicable for models with radio control handles). Park system for storage(Fig. 33) Risk of electric shock from mains voltage. The mains voltage is applied to the appliance even if it is switched off. After use, switch the appliance off at the wall socket and unplug it. Stand the vacuum cleaner upright. Retract the telescopic tube fully. Slot the floorhead downwards into one of the parking attachments on the side of the vacuum cleaner. This makes the vacuum cleaner easier to carry or store. Maintenance Risk of electric shock from mains voltage. The mains voltage is applied to the appliance even if it is switched off. Before carrying out any maintenance work, switch the appliance off at the wall socket and unplug it. The Miele filtration system consists of 3 accessories: - Original Miele dustbag (type GN) - Motor protection filter - Original Miele exhaust filter These accessories will need to be re- placed from time to time to ensure that your vacuum cleaner performs effi- ciently.en

We recommend using only genuine Miele accessories bearing the “ORI- GINAL Miele” logo on the packaging. Only these will guarantee the optimum performance of your vacuum cleaner and the best possible cleaning results. Dustbags with the “ORIGINAL Miele” logo on the packaging are not made from paper or paper-based materials and nor do they have a cardboard col- lar. This is why Miele dustbags are particularly long-lasting and reliable. Please note that faults and damage caused by use of accessories which do not bear the “ORIGINAL Miele” logo on the packaging are not covered by the vacuum cleaner warranty. Purchasing dustbags and filters Original Miele dustbags and filters are available from the Miele webshop, the Miele Spare Parts Department and your Miele dealer. Original Miele dustbags and filters are identified by the “ORIGINAL Miele” logo on the packaging. Every packet of original Miele dustbags contains 4 dustbags, one AirClean ex- haust filter and one motor protection fil- ter. Original Miele multipacks contain 16 dustbags, 4 AirClean exhaust filters and 4 motor protection filters (available de- pending on country). Original Miele exhaust filters can also be purchased separately from the Miele Customer Service Department or your Miele dealer. Please quote the model number of your vacuum cleaner when ordering to make sure you get the cor- rect filter. You can also order these fil- ters via the Miele webshop. Dustbag airflow indicator (Fig. 34) Change the dustbag when the airflow indicator turns red, or sooner if it is no longer effective (see possible reasons for this below). Blocked pores reduce the suction power of the vacuum cleaner. Dispose of the dustbag when it is full. Do not attempt to re-use the dustbag. To check the airflow indicator Attach the standard adjustable floor- head to the vacuum cleaner. Switch the vacuum cleaner on and select the highest power setting. Lift the floorhead off the floor a little. How the airflow indicator works The airflow indicator is set for normal household dust. This generally contains a mixture of dust, hair, threads, carpet fluff, grit etc. However, if the cleaner has been used to vacuum up fine dust, such as plaster, brick dust, cement or flour, the pores of the dustbag will become blocked very quickly. This affects the air permeability of the bag, and the marker will indicate thaten

the bag is “full” even when it is not. The dustbag must be replaced if this is the case. If, on the other hand, a large amount of hair and carpet fluff which typically con- tains a lot of air is vacuumed up, the in- dicator may fail to react even though the bag is full. You should still change it. Both these extremes can occur. Removing the dustbag (Fig. 35) Press the release catches at the side of the hose connector and pull the hose out of the suction opening (Fig. 02). Lift the release catch for the dust compartment lid and raise the lid as far as it will go (Fig. 09). The dustbag has a flap which closes automatically when the dust compart- ment lid is raised to prevent any dust escaping. Pull the dustbag out by the grip on the collar. Fitting a dustbag (Fig. 36) Fit the new dustbag into the holder until it clicks into position. Leave the dustbag folded up when you take it out of the box. Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. A safety device prevents the lid clos- ing without a dustbag in place. Do not force it. Insert the hose connector into the suction opening on the vacuum cleaner until it clicks into position. To do this, line up the guides on the two pieces (Fig. 01). Replacing the motor protection filter (Fig. 37) Replace the motor protection filter whenever you start a new packet of dustbags. Every packet of original Miele dustbags contains a motor protection filter. Mul- tipacks contain 4 motor protection fil- ters. Open the dust compartment lid (Fig. 09). Pull the dustbag out by the grip on the collar (Fig. 35). Lift up the filter frame until it clicks and remove the old motor protection filter. Hold the filter by the clean, un- soiled section to remove it (Fig. 37). Replace with a new motor protection filter. Close the filter frame. Fit the dustbag into the holder until it clicks into position (Fig. 36). Close the dust compartment lid se- curely, making sure it clicks into posi- tion. Take care not to trap the dust- bag when doing so. When to replace the exhaust filter Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following exhaust filters (Fig. 08):en

The indicator lights up after approximately 50hours of operation, which is equivalent to about a year of average use. You can continue vacuuming when the light comes on. However, the suction power will be reduced as will the effectiveness of the filter if it is not replaced in good time. Replacing the AirClean exhaust filter(Fig. 38+39) Do not use more than one exhaust filter at a time. Open the dust compartment lid (Fig. 09). Press the release catch on the filter grille and open the grille until it clicks (Fig. 38). Grasp the used AirClean exhaust filter by one of the clean, unsoiled sections and take it out (Fig. 38). Replace it with a new AirCleanex- haust filter (Fig. 39). If you wish to fit an AirClean Plus50, Silence AirClean50, Active AirClean50 or HEPA AirClean50 ex- haust filter, see the “Replacing one type of exhaust filter with another” section. Close the filter grille (Fig. 39). Damage due to contamination in the dust compartment Large quantities of dust may enter the dust compartment and damage components if the dustbag has not clicked into position. Open the dust compartment lid (Fig. 09). Lift the exhaust filter and remove it (Fig. 40). Insert a new exhaust filter, making sure it goes in properly, then press it down into position (Fig. 41).en

If you are using exhaust filter c, d or e, you must also activate the timestrip® filter change indicator (Fig. 11). After approx. 10–15seconds, a thin red line will appear in the left-hand side of the display (Fig. 12). • Filter grille – see “Optional ac- cessories” Maintenance indicator with reset but- ton (Fig. 42) Some models are fitted with a mainten- ance indicator. The indicator lights up after approxim- ately 50hours of operation, which is equivalent to about a year of average use. The level of soiling of the motor protection filter and the exhaust filter must be checked at this point. The indicator must be reset each time the filters are replaced. The vacuum cleaner must be switched on to do this. Press the reset button. The maintenance indicator will go out and reset to zero.en

The indicator can only be reset by pressing the reset button after the light has come on. Pressing the button at any other time will have no effect. When to replace the battery in the ra- dio-control handle Change the battery approximately every 18 months. One 3V battery (CR2032) is required. The vacuum cleaner can still be used when the battery has run out or if there is no battery fitted. Switch the vacuum cleaner on using the On/Off footswitch (Fig. 24). The standby indicator on the vacuum cleaner will light up yellow. Press the restart button on the va- cuum cleaner (Fig. 43). The vacuum cleaner can continue to be used, but only at maximum suction power. WARNING! Keep batteries out of reach of children. Coin or button batteries containing lithium can cause severe or fatal in- juries within 2 hours of being swal- lowed or placed inside any part of the body. Non-lithium batteries can also cause serious injuries if swal- lowed or placed inside any part of the body. Even flat batteries can still be dangerous. If you suspect a child has swallowed a battery or placed a battery inside any part of their body, seek medical advice immediately (Australia: Poisons Information Centre, Tel. 13 11 26; NZ: National Poisons Centre, Tel. 0800 764 766). Examine devices and make sure the battery compartment is correctly se- cured, e.g. that the screw or other mechanical fastener is tightened. Do not use if compartment is not secure. Used batteries must be kept away from children while awaiting disposal and must be disposed of in a safe manner. How to change the battery in the ra- dio-control handle (Fig. 44) Undo the screw on the battery com- partment cover using a cross-tip screwdriver and then remove the cover. Replace the battery with a new one. Make sure the polarity is correct. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. Dispose of the old battery in a muni- cipal recycling facility.en

When to replace the battery in the LED handle Replace the batteries when necessary. 3 1.5V batteries (AAA) are required. How to change the battery in the LED handle (Fig. 06+07) Loosen the screw on the cover. Press in the sides of the cover to re- lease the retainers and remove the cover. Take out the battery holder and in- sert the 3 batteries supplied. Make sure the polarity is correct. Refit the battery holder. Arrows are marked on the battery holder and battery compartment as a fitting aid. They should point in the same direc- tion. Replace the cover and tighten the screw back up again. Replacing the thread lifters (Fig. 45) (not possible on EcoTeQ Plusfloor- heads) The thread lifters on the suction inlet to the floorhead can be replaced. Replace the thread lifters if the pile has worn down. Lever the thread lifters from the slots. To do so use a suitable tool, e.g. a flat blade screwdriver. Fit new thread lifters. Replacement parts are available from your Miele dealer or from the Miele Spare Parts Dept. Cleaning and care Risk of electric shock from mains voltage. The mains voltage is applied to the appliance even if it is switched off. Before cleaning, switch the appli- ance off at the wall socket and un- plug it. Vacuum cleaner and accessories Risk of electric shock from mains voltage. If moisture gets into the vacuum cleaner, there is a risk of electric shock. Do not let the vacuum cleaner get wet. The vacuum cleaner and all plastic ac- cessories can be cleaned with a propri- etary cleaner suitable for plastic. Damage due to unsuitable clean- ing agents. All surfaces are susceptible to scratching. Contact with unsuitable cleaning agents can alter or discol- our the external surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, glass cleaning agents, all-purpose cleaners or oil-based conditioning agents. Dust compartment The dust compartment can, if neces- sary, be cleaned using a dry duster, brush or, if available, a second vacuum cleaner to vacuum the dust out.en

Problem solving guide Many malfunctions and faults that can occur in daily operation can be easily remedied. Time and money will be saved because a service call will not be needed. The following guide may help you to find the reason for a malfunction or a fault, and to correct it. Problem Cause and remedy The vacuum cleaner switches off automatic- ally. On certain models, the overheating protection warning light also comes on. A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. This can occur if, for instance, large articles block the suction tube or when the dustbag is full or contains particles of fine dust. A heavily soiled motor protec- tion or exhaust filter can also be the cause of over- heating. Switch the vacuum cleaner off immediately using the On/Off footswitch. Switch off at the wall socket and unplug it. After removing the cause, wait for approximately 20– 30 minutes to allow the vacuum cleaner to cool down. It can then be switched on again.
