CRITICAL DISPOSAL WARNINGS

  • DANGER : Risk of child entrapment. Before you throw away your old refrigerator or freezer: - Take off the doors and door latch. - Leave the shelves in place so that children cannot easily climb inside. - Children trapped inside a refrigerator can hurt themselves or suffocate to death.
  • Please dispose of the packaging material from this product in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • Ensure that none of the pipes on the back of the refrigerator are damaged prior to disposal.
  • R-600a or R-134a is used as a refrigerant. Check the compressor label on the rear of the appliance or the rating label inside the fridge to see which refrigerant is used for your refrigerator. If this product contains fl ammable gas (Refrigerant R-600a), contact your local authority in regard to safe disposal of this product.
  • When disposing of this refrigerator, remove the door/door seals and door latch so that small children or animals cannot become trapped inside. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. If trapped inside, the child may get hurt or suffocate to death.
  • Cyclopentane is used in the insulation. The gases in the insulation material require a special disposal procedure. Please contact your local authorities in regard to the environmentally safe disposal of this product.
  • Keep all packaging materials well out of the reach of children, as packaging materials can be dangerous to children. - If a child places a bag over his or her head, the child could suffocate. DA68-03178A-03.indb 7DA68-03178A-03.indb 7 2015. 1. 26. 11:582015. 1. 26. 11:58English - 8
  • In the event of a power failure, call the local offi ce of your Electricity Company and ask how long it is going to last. - Most power failures that are corrected in an hour or two will not affect your refrigerator temperatures. However, you should minimize the number of door openings while the power is off. - Should the power failure last more than 24 hours, remove and discard all frozen food.
  • The refrigerator might not operate consistently (frozen contents can thaw or temperatures can become too warm in the frozen food compartment) when sited for an extended period of time in a location where ambient air temperatures are constantly below the temperatures for which it is designed.
  • Refrigeration can have an adverse effect on certain foods (bananas, for example) and cause them to deteriorate. Do not refrigerate these foods.
  • Your appliance is frost free, which means there is no need to manually defrost your appliance. This will be carried out automatically.
  • Temperature rise during defrosting complies with ISO requirements. If you want to prevent an undue rise in the temperature of frozen food while the refrigerator defrosts, wrap the frozen food in several layers of newspaper.
  • Do not re-freeze frozen foods that have thawed completely. Saving Energy Tips - Install the refrigerator in a cool, dry room with adequate ventilation. Ensure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight and never put it near a direct source of heat (a radiator, for example). - For the highest energy efficiency, do not block any internal or external grills or vents. - Allow warm food to cool down before placing it in the refrigerator. - Put frozen food in the refrigerator to thaw. You can then use the low temperatures of the frozen products to cool food in the refrigerator. - Do not keep the door of the appliance open for too long when putting food in or taking food out. The shorter the time the door is open, the less frost build-up you’ll have in the freezer. - To reduce power consumption and keep your energy bills low, we recommend that you install the refrigerator with at least 2 inches of clearance on the back and sides. DISPENSER LINE A water dispenser is one of the helpful features on your new Samsung Refrigerator. To help promote better health, the Samsung water fi lter removes unwanted particles from your water. However, it does not sterilize or destroy microorganisms. You may need to purchase a water purifying system to do that. The water line also connects to the ice maker. For the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20 ~ 125psi (138 ~ 862kPa) is required. If the refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you can install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure. After you have connected the water line, make sure the water storage tank inside the refrigerator is properly fi lled. To do this, press the water dispenser lever until water runs from the water dispenser. Water line installation kits are available at extra cost from your dealer. We recommend using a water supply kit that contains copper tubing. The Samsung refrigerator warranty does not cover water line installation. Reverse Osmosis Water Supply IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water supply coming out of a reverse osmosis system going to the water inlet valve of the refrigerator needs to be between 35 and 120 psi (241 and 827 kPa). If a reverse osmosis water fi ltration system is connected to your cold water supply, the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system needs to be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa.) If the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system is less than 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa):

  • Check to see whether the sediment fi lter in the reverse osmosis system is blocked. Replace the fi lter if necessary.
  • Allow the storage tank on the reverse osmosis system to refi ll after heavy usage.
  • If your refrigerator has a water fi lter, it may further reduce the water pressure when used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system. Remove the water fi lter. If you have questions about your water pressure, call a licensed, qualifi ed plumber. Ordering replacement fi lters To order more water fi lter cartridges, contact your authorized Samsung dealer. • Check if the power plug is properly connected.
  • Is the temperature control on the display panel set to the correct temperature? Try setting it to a lower temperature.
  • Is the refrigerator in direct sunlight or located too near a heat source? If so, it may not be able to cool suffi ciently. Install it in a location that is out of direct sunlight and not near a heat source.
  • Is the back of the refrigerator too close to the wall, preventing proper ventilation? If so, the refrigerator may not be able to cool suffi ciently. Keep the wall at least two inches from the back and sides of the refrigerator.
  • Is there too much food inside so that the food is blocking the outlet vent? To keep the refrigerator at a suitable temperature, do not fi ll the refrigerator with too much food. The food in the fridge is frozen.
  • Is the temperature control on the display panel set to the correct temperature? Try setting it to a warmer temperature.
  • Is the temperature in the room very low?
  • Did you store the food with a high water content in the coldest part of the fridge? Move the food to another part of the fridge. You hear unusual noise or sounds.
  • Check if the refrigerator is level and stable.
  • Is the back of the refrigerator too close to the wall, keeping air from circulating?
  • Was anything dropped behind or under the refrigerator?
  • If you hear a “ticking” sound from inside the refrigerator, this is normal. It occurs because various parts contract or expand in response to temperature changes in the refrigerator interior. The front corners of the appliance are hot and condensation is occurring.
  • Some heat is normal as anti-condensators are installed in the front corners of the refrigerator to prevent condensation.
  • Is the refrigerator door ajar? Condensation can occur when you leave the door open for a long time.
  • Water condensation in a drawer may occur if the drawer contains vegetables. The condensation will dissipate naturally as time passes. Ice is not dispensing.
  • Did you wait for 12 hours after the installation of the refrigerator and water supply line before making ice? The refrigerator can take longer to make ice if it is not suffi ciently cool, such as during the fi rst 12 hours after it was installed.
  • Is the water line connected and the shut-off valve open?
  • Did you manually stop the ice making function? Make sure the Ice Maker is on and Ice Type is set to Cubed or Crushed.
  • Are there any ice clumps in the ice maker bucket? Remove them.
  • Is the freezer temperature too warm? Try setting the freezer temperature lower. You can hear water bubbling in the refrigerator.
  • This is normal. The bubbling comes from the refrigerant coolant liquid circulating through the refrigerator. DA68-03178A-03.indb 34DA68-03178A-03.indb 34 2015. 1. 26. 11:582015. 1. 26. 11:58English - 35 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION There is a bad smell in the refrigerator.
  • Has a food item spoiled?
  • Make sure that strong smelling food (for example, fi sh) is wrapped so that it is airtight.
  • Clean out your freezer periodically and throw away any spoiled food. When cleaning the inside of the fridge, store food elsewhere and unplug the appliance. Wipe with a dry dishcloth after 2-3 hours and then circulate air inside the refrigerator. Frost forms on the walls of the freezer.
  • Is the air vent blocked? Remove any obstructions so air can circulate freely.
  • Allow suffi cient space between the stored food for effi cient air circulation.
  • Is the freezer door closed properly?
  • Is the freezer drawer closed properly? If the freezer drawer is not completely closed or is blocked, humidity from outside may enter and cause severe frost to form. The water dispenser is not functioning.
  • Is the water line connected and the shut-off valve open?
  • Has the water supply line tubing been crushed or kinked? Make sure the tubing is free and clear of any obstruction.
  • Is the water tank frozen because the refrigerator temperature is too low? Try selecting a warmer setting on the main display panel.
  • Check if the fi lter is properly installed. If it is not properly installed, the water dispenser may not work. The freezer door is not closing properly.
  • Push the water lever dispenser and confi rm that it dispenses water.
  • Push the ice lever dispenser and confi rm that the auger motor is operating.
  • Remove objects on the shelves that might obstruct drive auger or the door. Precautions : If you have not dispensed water or ice for an extended time, ice clumps can accumulate in the ice bucket and interfere with the drive auger, preventing the ice dispenser from dispensing ice. Remove the remaining ice from the ice bucket to ensure the auger is not being blocked by ice clumps, and then operate the ice and water dispensers more frequently. This will improve the auto-closing function of the freezer door. DA68-03178A-03.indb 35DA68-03178A-03.indb 35 2015. 1. 26. 11:582015. 1. 26. 11:58Warranty (USA)
