Safety instructions

This appliance may be used by children under the age 8 years and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge only if they are supervised or were instructed on using the appliance and have understood the possible dangers.

Store the appliance and the connect- ing cable out of the reach of children under 8 years of age.

Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Inspect the appliance for visible signs of damage before use. Do not use a damaged appliance.

Do not leave the appliance unattended during operation.

Only allow repairs to the appliance to be carried out by an authorised specialist or by the works customer service; this particularly applies to replacing a damaged connecting cable. Unqualified repairs can lead to considerable danger for the user. They will also invalidate the warranty/guarantee.

Repairs to the appliance during the warranty/guarantee period may only be carried out by service centres authorised by the manufacturer, otherwise the warranty/guarantee will become invalid in the event of damage or subsequent damage.

Defective parts may only be replaced with original spare parts. Only original spare parts guarantee that the safety requirements are met.

Do not use this appliance together with an external timer or a separate remote control system.

Check that the upper grill plate is securely fixed.

Do not touch the hot surfaces during operation.

Only touch the appliance during operation using the handles or knobs.

Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning and before inserting/ removing the grill plates.

CAUTION

Do not pull the connecting cable to remove the plug from the mains socket.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or metal brushes, nylon brushes or other objects that could scratch the surface when cleaning the grill plates.

Never lift or move the appliance with the mains cable.

Do not cut any food on the grill plate.

Use only spoons and spatulas for turning over food that are suitable for non-stick surfaces.

Requirements for the place of use

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the place of operation must satisfy the following requirements:

Place the appliance on a level, heat resistant surface that is also resistant to splashing fat.

The surface finishes on furniture may contain substances that can be detrimental to the rubber feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance.

Do not place the appliance in a hot, wet or very humid environment or in the vicinity of inflammable materials.

There must be a gap of at least 15cm between the appliance and any walls, furniture or other objects.

Select a location that does not allow children to reach the hot surfaces of the appliance.

The mains socket must be easily accessible and allow fast disconnection in the event of an emergency.

Electrical connection

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions must be observed for the electrical connection:

Before connecting the appliance, compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. The data must correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer.

The mains socket must be protected by at least a 10 A automatic circuit breaker.

Ensure that the mains lead is undamaged and is not laid over sharp edges.

The mains cable must not be pulled tightly, bent or come into contact with hot surfaces.

Route the cable to prevent risk of trip- ping.

If the appliance is to be connected to the power supply via an extension lead, the cable cross-section must be at least 1.5mm^2

The electrical safety of the appliance is only assured when it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a mains socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, the electrical system must be checked by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer assumes no liability for injury or damage caused by a missing or interrupted protective earth conductor.

BIO-LON KERAMIK

The BIO-LON non-stick coating not only distinguishes itself by health and environmental awareness but also has other special features:

BIO-PLUS GRANIT (model 19.002)

The granite stone sealing is extremely scratch proof, hard and durable. This allows preparation of dishes without burning or sticking - even without oil or fat.

The BIO-PLUS GRANIT grill plates are easy on nutrients and preserve vitamins. Cleaning succeeds effortlessly.

Startup

Unpacking

Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box.

Remove all packaging materials and protective foils from the product and the accessories before using it for the first time.

NOTE!

Do not remove the rating plate or any warning signs on the appliance. If possible, keep the original packaging during the warranty/guarantee period in order to be able to pack the appliance properly in the event of a guarantee claim. Transport damage will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.

Check the delivery contents

Check for visible signs of damage or missing items.

Report incomplete or damaged contents to your supplier immediately.

Prior to first use

Clean the appliance as described in the section

Cleaning and care (page 27).

Before using the appliance for the first time, heat it up once for approx. 10 minutes to remove any production residue (grease).

Push the temperature regulator (7) to the "B" position (highest temperature).

Insert the plug into a mains socket. - Move the ON/OFF switch (5) to - the "I" position. The power indicator light (6) lights up and the appliance begins heating.

-When the standby indicator (4) lights up, the set temperature has been reached.

NOTE!

Due to the materials used, a new appliance can produce light odour or smoke when it is used for the first time. This will diminish after a short period of time. Ensure sufficient ventilation.

Wait for 10 minutes.

Push the temperature regulator (7) to " (lowest temperature).

Move the ON/OFF switch (5) to the "O" position.

Allow the appliance to cool down completely.

Clean the appliance as described in the section

Cleaning and care (page 27).

Preparations

Inserting/removing grill plates

NOTE!

The grill plates are interchangeable. Allow the appliance to cool down before inserting/removing the grill plates.

Inserting the lower grill plate (see images A1 and A2)

Push both supporting hooks into the appropriate recesses at the back of the lower part of the housing.

Press the grill plate down until it en- gages audibly.

Removing the lower grill plate (see image B)

Press the unlocking button (8) and remove the grill plate.

Inserting the lower grill plate (see images C1 and C2)

Hang the grill plate onto the lower supporting hook on the upper part of the housing.

Press the grill plate down as illustrated- ed until it engages audibly.

Removing the lower grill plate (see image D)

Press the unlocking button (3) and remove the grill plate.

Inserting the drip tray (see image E)

Push the removable drip tray (16) from the front into the opening on the back of the lower part of the housing until it engages.

Setting the gap (see image F)

The gap between both grill plates can be set using the spacer and is dependent on the thickness of the food to be grilled.

Push the spacer (10) to the desired position so that it lies securely on the desired level of the rest support (11).

Folding up the lid (see image G)

The appliance can be used as an open grill. The lid must be opened back completely for this purpose. Proceed as follows:

Push the spacer to the position and open the lid at the same time until it engages.

Locking engages automatically when closing.

Locking the lid (see image H)

Push the spacer to the ^ Close down the lid (2).

Push the spacer to the "0".

Operation and use

General notes

The food should be at room temperature since frozen food requires longer to cook and can also dry out.

To achieve the best results, preheat the grill until the required temperature has been reached and the standby lamp (4) lights up.

Carefully monitor grilling and regulate the temperature - if necessary.

Possibilities for use

Contact grill

(see image H)

You can prepare various different foods such as steaks, sausages or vegetables using the contact grill.

The contact grill is particularly suitable for quick low-fat preparation of meals since both sides are grilled simultaneously and the ribbed surface of the grill allows fat to quickly flow into the drip tray.

If you wish to grill different meals at the same time, they must have the same thickness so that contact to the surface of the grill plate remains even.

Open grill

By opening the lid completely, you can double the size of the grilling surface therefore enabling several persons to grill simultaneously, for example, hamburgers, steaks, fish or vegetables.

You can cook different meals on both sides at the same time without them influencing the taste of each other.

Regularly turn over the food to ensure even cooking. Fish and meat should be turned over only once as they can dry out.

We do not recommend cooking poultry with bones as this is difficult to do evenly.

Grilling with the spacer

You can set the gap between both of the grill plates with the help of the spacer. You then have the opportunity to gratinate your food with cheese just like Hawaii toast.

Make sure that the gap is adjusted accordingly so that the cheese does not stick to the upper grill plate.

Using the appliance

Switching on

Insert the drip tray (16) as described in the section Inserting the drip tray (page 24).
Insert the plug into a mains socket.
Move the ON/OFF switch (5) to the "I" position. The power indicator light (6) lights up and the appliance begins heating.

Use the temperature regulator (7) to set the desired temperature depending on the food (see section temperature regulator; page 22).

Allow the appliance to heat up after switching on. The operating temperature is reached in approx. 8 minutes when the lid (2) is closed.

When the standby indicator (4) lights up, the preset temperature has been reached and grilling can start.

NOTE!

The temperature settings can be changed at any time during grilling.

Using as a contact grill or sandwich toaster

Switch on the appliance as described in the section Operating the appliance: Switching on (page 25).

Open the lid (2).

Put the food onto the lower grill plate (15).

Close down the lid (2).

Grill the food until it is browned or cooked as desired.

Using as an open grill

Fold up the lid (2) completely as described in the section Folding up the lid (page 24).

Switch on the appliance as described in the section Operating the appliance: Switching on (page 25).

Put the food onto both grill plates.

Grill the food until it is browned or cooked as desired.

NOTE!

Regularly turn over food to ensure even cooking; if possible, only turn over fish and meat once to avoid drying it out.

Using the spacer

Set the desired gap as described in the section Setting the gap (page 24).

Switch on the appliance as described in the section Operating the appliance: Switching on (page 25).

Open the lid (2).

Put the food onto the lower grill plate (15).

Close down the lid (2).

Grill the food until it is browned or cooked as desired.

Switching off

Push the temperature regulator (7) to

Move the ON/OFF switch (5) to the "O" position. The power indicator (6) and the standby indicator (4) go out.

Allow the appliance to cool down completely.

After using

Switch off the appliance.

Pull the plug out of the mains socket.

Remove stubborn stains from warm grill plates using a wooden spatula.

Allow the appliance to cool down and clean it as described in the section Cleaning and care (page 27).

Cleaning and care

Before beginning work, pay attention to the safety instructions in the Safety section (page 19)!

The appliance must be cleaned after each use.

Clean the appliance as soon as it has cooled down. Waiting too long makes cleaning unnecessarily difficult.

Leftovers that stick to the grill plates can burn into the coating if not removed correctly

Grill plates

NOTE!

Grill plates are not suitable for dish- washers.

Remove the grill plates as described in the section Removing/inserting grill plates (page 24).

Wipe the grill plates with a damp cloth or sponge and a little washing-up liquid and then with a damp cloth without washing-up liquid.

NOTE!

In the case of stubborn stains, cleaning is easier if the grill plates are soaked first.

Housing

Wipe the housing with a damp cloth or sponge.

We recommend using INOX-METAL- POLISH from Beem for regular maintenance and the removal of difficult stains from stainless steel surfaces. The polish restores appliances to their original shine. INOX-METAL-POLISH is available in tubes and is suitable for pots as well as for other objects made of stainless steel, chromium, brass, copper, aluminium, silver and also hard plastics. INOX-METAL-POLISH is used in factories for polishing stainless steel. You can obtain INOX-METAL-POLISH from your retailer or by phoning us or visiting our website at www.beem.de .

Drip tray (see image I)

Remove the drip tray (16), empty it and wash with warm water or in a dishwasher.

Troubleshooting

The following table helps in localising and remedying minor faults:

The power indicator does not light up after switching on.	Plug not inserted into socket.	Insert plug.
	Automatic circuit breaker in fuse box tripped.	Switch on the automatic circuit breaker again.

Oil leaks from underneath the appliance.	Drip tray not inserted. Inserting the drip tray.
	Drip tray is full. Empty drip tray.

NOTE!

If you cannot resolve the problem with the steps described above, please contact customer service.

Storage

If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, clean it as described in the section Cleaning and care (page 27).

Store the appliance and all accessory parts at a dry, clean and frost-free location, which is protected against direct sunlight.
