To make sure you can enjoy using this cooking plate for a long time, please read through the following notes carefully and observe them. Keep this instruction manual safely. Hand out all documents to third persons when passing on the appliance. Thank you very much. Intended use The appliance is intended as cooking plate for preparing food (domestic use only). Other uses or modifications of the appliance are not intended and harbour considerable risks. For damage arising from not intended use, the manufacturer does not assume liability. The appliance is not designed for commercial use. Technical data Only connect the appliance to an isolated ground receptacle installed according to regulations. The rated voltage must comply with the details on the rating label. Only connect to alternating current. The models THL 2597/A and THL 3097/A are provided with a cover, which can be removed for cleaning. The model THL 2597 can be retrofitted with a cover. If required, please contact your local dealer. Deliver paper, cardboard and corrugated cardboard packing to collecting facilities. Also plastic packing material and foils should be put into the intended collecting basins. Warning: Read all safety advices and instructions. Non-
observance of the safety advices and instructions may cause electric shock, fire and/or bad injuries! General safety advices:
- Always keep children under 8 away from the product and the power cord.
- Children from the age of 8 must be supervised when cleaning or maintaining the appliance.
- Children from the age of 8 and persons, not having the knowledge or experience in operating the appliance or having handicaps of physical, sensorial or mental nature must not operate the appliance without supervision or instruction by a person, responsible for their safety. Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
- Children should be supervised in order to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Packing material like e. g. foil bags should be kept away from children.
- Do not at all operate this unit with an external timer or a separate telecontrol system.
- Prior to each use, check the appliance and the accessories for soundness. It must not be operated if it has been dropped or shows visible damage. In these cases, the power supply must be disconnected and the appliance has to be checked by a specialist.
- When laying the power cord, make sure that nobody can get entangled or stumble over it so that accidently pulling the appliance down can be avoided.
- Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces, sharp edges and mechanical forces. Check the power cord regularly for damage and deteriorations. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of an electric shock.
- For disconnecting the appliance from the mains, only use the plug, never the cord!
- Never immerse appliance, power cord or plug in water for cleaning.
- Do not store the appliance outside or in dump rooms.
- This electrical appliance complies with the relevant safety standards. In case of signs of damage to the appliance or the power cord, unplug the appliance immediately. Repairs may be effected by authorised specialist shops only. Improper repairs may result in considerable dangers for the user.
- Improper use and non-observance of the instruction manual will void warranty. For your safety10 Safety advices for using the appliance:
Warning: Hazard of injury and burns!
Casing surfaces and heating plates become hot during use and fi rstly stay hot after switch-off! Thus, act with caution:
- We recommend using pot cloths and appropriate cooking utensils!
- Do not use the appliance´s upper side as depositing rack or working top as it will get hot when operating the appliance! As protection against fi re, do generally not put objects made of paper, plastic, fabric or other infl ammable material on hot surfaces!
- Only use suitable pots or pans with sound, even bottom and appropriate diameter (also fi re-proof glass or porcelain). If the pot bottom is uneven or too small, you will waste energy. The heating plate and the pot bottom must always be clean and dry.
- Do not use cooking vessels made of plastic, inferior enamel, porcelain or aluminium foil. Attention! Hazard of fi re! Overheated fats and oils can infl ame. Therefore, food containing fats and oils may only be prepared under supervision!
- Never splash cold water on the hot heating plate!
- Appliance and accessories must have cooled completely before cleaning or moving them!
- The cover can be removed for cleaning. Please ensure that he cover will only be closed when the appliance is switched off and the heating plates have cooled down. Observe the following when setting up the appliance: o Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, stable and even surface (no varnished surfaces, no table cloths etc.). o Place it beyond children’s reach. o Leave an appropriate ventilation distance to all sides to avoid damage by heat or fat splatters and to grant an unobstructed work area. Unhindered air supply has to be ensured. o Do not operate the appliance in the vicinity of sources of heat (oven, gas fl ame etc.) or in explosive environments, where infl ammable liquids or gases are located. Attention! Hazard of fi re! This appliance is not qualifi ed for installation.
- Do not use the appliance as space heater.
- Pull the power plug after each use for safe switch-off.11 Operating the appliance Cleaning and maintenance
- Before the fi rst use, heat up each heating plate without a pot for approximately 5 minutes at maximum temperature. Thus, the plate coating gets its optimal protection effect. Please disregard the temporary formation of harmless smoke.
- The cooking plates are equipped with a patented thermostatic system that allows a continuous fi ne adjustment.
- Your cooking plate always heats up with the full power until the temperature is reached, which corresponds to the selected setting. Through the whole heating period the pilot lamp glows up. It turns off as soon as the adjusted temperature is reached. By the time the heating plate heats again to maintain the adjusted temperature, the pilot lamp glows up again. This illumination/extinction repeats consistently.
- After a while you will certainly fi nd the applicable settings for your dishes. Then readjustment is not necessary anymore. The following scale is suitable for orientation: Switch off your appliance in time, and use the residual heat stored in the heating plates for keeping dishes warm. Always unplug and let cool down the appliance before cleaning. Never immerse appliance, power cord or plug in water for cleaning.
- Clean the appliance with a damp cloth and some dishwashing detergent.
- Keep the heating plates dry. Moisture and vapor leads to rust.
- Treat the surface of the heating plates with a suitable care product from time to time.
- Never use abrasives, solvents, steel wool or pointed objects!

- Both, cooking zone and pot bottom must be clean and free of residues, in order to guarantee best the possible heat transfer.
- Always place the cookware on the cooking zone before switching the appliance on.
- Position the cookware in the middle of the cooking zone.
- The bottom of the cookware and the cooking zone should be about the same size.
- Using cookware with a too small diameter you will waste energy.
- When heating water, only heat the amount you actually require.
- During cooking, it is recommended to cover the cookware with a lid, if possible.
