Congratulations with the purchase of this professional steam station. The iron has a stainless steel soleplate, a continuously variable temperature control and a steam function. It has a separate water reservoir, so that there is always plenty of steam and it also allows the iron to produce steam even when it is held in a vertical position.

Electricity and heat

  • Make sure that the mains voltage is the same as that indicated on the type plate on the appliance before use.
  • Make sure the socket into which you plug the appliance is earthed.
  • It recommended to plug the appliance into a wall socket and to not use an extension lead or a multiple socket. If this is not possible, use an earthed extension lead or an earthed multiple socket that is suitable for the power stated on the appliance's type plate.
  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket when the appliance is not in use or when cleaning the appliance.
  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket by pulling on the plug, not the power cord.
  • Check the appliance's power cord regularly to make sure it is not damaged. Do not use the appliance if the power cord is damaged. Have a damaged power cord replaced by a qualified service department.
  • Make sure that the appliance, the power cord and plug do not come into contact with water.
  • Certain parts of the appliance will become hot. Do not touch them, as you could burn yourself.
  • The appliance needs space to allow heat to escape, thereby avoiding the risk of fire. Make sure that the appliance has sufficient space around it, and does not come in contact with flammable materials. The appliance may not be covered.
  • Make sure that the appliance and the power cord do not come in contact with sources of heat, such as a hot hob or naked flame.
  • Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning or storing it.
  • Empty the water reservoir when storing the appliance in a location where the water could freeze.

During use

  • Never use the appliance outdoors.
  • Never use the appliance in humid rooms.
  • Do not touch the appliance if it has fallen into water. Remove the plug from the wall socket immediately. Do not use the appliance any more.
  • Never immerse the appliance, the cord or the plug in water or any other fluid.
  • Make sure that your hands are dry when you touch the appliance, the power cord or the plug.
  • Do not iron fabric when it is very wet.

  • Place the appliance on a stable, heat resistant surface where it cannot fall over.
    • Make sure you do not become caught up in the power cord.

  • Never leave the appliance unsupervised whilst it is switched on.
  • Never aim the steam at people. Steam causes serious burns.
  • Do not unscrew the cap from the water reservoir if it still contains pressurized steam. First, allow all the steam to escape by pressing the steam release button on the iron. Remove the plug from the wall socket first.
  • Do not move the water reservoir whilst it is being used.
  • If necessary, clean the appliance after use (see 'Cleaning and maintenance').

Use

Before use for the first time

Before using the iron for the first time, begin by ironing a piece of old fabric to ensure that the soleplate and water reservoir are clean. Repeat this when the iron has not been used for a period of time.

The appliance may emit a little smoke and a characteristic smell when you switch it on for the first time. This is normal, and will soon stop. Make sure the appliance has sufficient ventilation.

Fillig the water reservoir

  1. Make sure the plug has been removed from the wall socket.
  2. If you have just used the appliance and wish to top it up, keep the steam release button pressed and wait until steam no longer escapes from the soleplate.
  3. Unscrew the water reservoir's cap (anticlockwise).

BESTRON DYPG5 - Fillig the water reservoir - 1

Never unscrew the cap from the water reservoir if the boiler is still pressurized.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with a maximum of 0.6 litres of clean tap water. Use a funnel and a measuring beaker.

Note Never fill the appliance by holding it under a running tap. There is a good chance that water will flow over the casing and into the appliance.

Note If you live in an area with hard water, it is recommended to use distilled or demineralized water.

Note Never add a stain remover or other additives to the water.

  1. Screw the cap onto the water reservoir (clockwise). Do not overtighten the cap.
  2. If necessary, dry the groove around the screw cap by pouring away any spilt water and then drying it with a cloth.

Dry ironing

  1. Insert the plug into the wall socket.
  2. Only turn on the iron's On/Off switch (position 'I').
  3. Turn the iron's temperature-control dial to the desired position (see the table in 'Ironing instructions'). The heating pilot light (9) will be lit.
  4. Place the iron in a vertical position (upright) and wait until the heating pilot light goes out. You can also place the iron on the water reservoir's heat resistant tray.
  5. Iron the fabric by sliding the iron over the fabric.
While you are ironing, the heating element will automatically switch on and off to keep the soleplate at the set temperature. The heating pilot light will, therefore, also turn on and off automatically.
  6. After use, rotate the temperature-control dial to the 'MIN' position, turn off the On/Off switch (position 'O', so that the pilot light goes out) and remove the plug from the wall socket. Place the iron in a vertical position and allow it to cool down.

Steam ironing

  1. Fill the water reservoir (see 'Filling the water reservoir').
  2. Insert the plug into the wall socket.
  3. Turn on the iron's On/Off switch (position 'I').
  4. Also turn on the boiler's On/Off switch. The pilot light (13) will be lit.
  5. Turn the iron's temperature-control dial to the desired position (see the table in 'Ironing instructions'). The heating pilot light (9) will be lit.
  6. Place the iron in a vertical position (upright) and wait until the heating indicator light goes out and the steam pilot light is lit (this takes approximately 7 minutes). You can also place the iron on the water reservoir's heat resistant tray.
  7. Iron the fabric by sliding the iron over the fabric.
While you are ironing, the heating element will automatically switch on and off to keep the soleplate at the set temperature. The heating pilot light will, therefore, also turn on and off automatically.
  8. Whilst ironing, press the steam release button to allow steam to escape from the soleplate.

Note The steam spray of this product can only be smooth after pressing the steam iron button for several times.

Note When the steam pilot light (10) goes out, you must wait until the boiler has built up sufficient steam pressure again. If the pilot light no longer lights up, you must top up the water reservoir (see 'Filling the water reservoir'). In that case, wait a couple of minutes so that the boiler can cool down a little.

Note If the temperature is too low, drops of water can escape with the steam. This can cause stains. If this does happen, you should turn the temperature-control dial to the recommended position. Never iron whilst there are drops of water on the soleplate.

Note You can also release steam when the iron is held vertically, for example, to clean fabric. The steam can also be used to remove indentations in carpets made by table legs. To do so, spray steam on the indentation and lightly brush it. Do not set the temperature too high if the carpet contains synthetic fibres.

Note The best result is achieved by ironing in two stages: moisten the article of clothing with steam first by holding the soleplate approximately 20 cm above the clothing. Use more steam if the item of clothing contains a lot of creases. Next, iron the item of clothing dry.

  1. After use, rotate the temperature-control dial to the 'MIN' position, turn off both On/Off switches (position 'O', so that the pilot light goes out) and remove the plug from the wall socket. Place the iron in a vertical position and allow it to cool down.

Ironing instructions

  • Before ironing a garment check whether the garment has a label with ironing directions. Always follow the instructions on the label. The following table explains the meaning of symbols that may be shown on the label.
  • You can also use the following table when the garment does not have a label but you do know which fabric was used to make the garment.

  • The prescribed temperature settings are applicable solely to the specified fabrics. Fabrics with a glossy or raised surface should be ironed at a lower temperature.
  • Sort the fabrics by ironing temperature, i.e. wool with wool, cotton with cotton, etc. Begin by ironing the garments that need to be ironed at a lower temperature before moving on to the garments that need to be ironed at a higher temperature. This is advisable because the iron heats up faster than it cools down.
  • Iron garments containing a mixture of fabrics, for example 60% polyester and 40% cotton, at the lowest temperature – in this example, the ironing temperature for polyester.
  • When ironing garments made from an unknown fabric always begin at a lower temperature. Test the iron on a concealed area, for example an area on the inside of the garment.
  • Pure woollen fabrics (100% wool) can be pressed using steam. Preference is given to the use of a dry cloth between the iron and the wool. It is best to press wool on the inner surface of the fabric.
  • Always iron velvety fabrics and other fabrics that readily become shiny in one direction; apply gentle pressure to the iron.
  • Never iron over zips, etc. These can scratch the soleplate.

Cleaning and maintenance

  1. Make sure the boiler and the soleplate have cooled down and the plug has been removed from the wall socket.
  2. Clean the soleplate with a damp cloth. Never use a descaling agent.
  3. Store the iron.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Never use metal implements or scourers to clean the soleplate; otherwise the soleplate could be damaged.
  • Never immerse the appliance, plug or power cord in water.
  • Never use corrosive or scouring cleaning agents or sharp objects (such as knives or hard brushes) to clean the appliance.
