Frequently Asked Questions - BOULDER50 GOAL ZERO

Are the Boulder solar panels waterproof?
Yes, the Boulder devices are designed to withstand the elements and can be installed outdoors. However, the devices you are charging (Yeti, Sherpa) must remain dry. Protect them from dust, rain, and snow.
Can I connect two Boulder 50 in series?
Yes, you can connect up to three Boulder 50 panels in series to reach up to 150 W. Use the blue ring connector of the first panel into the input of the next. Beyond that, a combiner cable is required.
What devices can I charge directly with the Boulder 50?
The Boulder 50 is designed to charge Goal Zero Sherpa and Yeti power stations via the 8 mm cable. For USB devices (phones, lights), use the Nomad foldable panels instead.
How long does it take to recharge a Yeti 400 with the Boulder 50?
The estimated charging time for a Yeti 400 is 16 to 32 hours in good weather. Use the Goal Zero calculator for a precise estimate.
Can I install the Boulder 50 on my roof?
Absolutely. The Boulder 50 is compatible with traditional Z brackets for fixed installation. Ideal for a caravan or RV in combination with a Yeti.
Does the Boulder 50 work in cloudy weather?
Yes, but the charging power will be reduced. Optimal orientation and angle facing the sun improve production even under overcast skies.
How to orient the Boulder 50 for optimal charging?
Use the built-in kickstand to tilt the panel toward the sun. Reorient it every few hours to follow the sun's path and maximize production.
Can I use the Boulder 50 with other brands of batteries?
The Boulder 50 is optimized for Goal Zero products (Yeti, Sherpa). For other brands, check voltage compatibility and possibly use a suitable charge controller.
What should I do if the 8 mm cable is damaged?
Contact Goal Zero customer service at 1-888-794-6250 to obtain a replacement cable. Do not use an unsuitable cable.
Is the Boulder 50 repairable?
In case of failure, contact the Goal Zero solutions center. Repairs are possible under the 12-month warranty. Spare parts are available on request.

FREQUently ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are the Boulder Solar Panels waterproof?

A: Yes. The Boulders are designed to withstand the elements, so they're great for permanent installations. What you're recharging from the Boulders is what needs your help to stay dry, so keep those power packs and power stations covered up and protected from the dust, rain, and snow.

Q: Can I chain a Boulder 50 with older Boulders?

A: Depends on the panels. Yes, you can chain the Boulder 50 Solar Panel with other Boulders that have an 8mm input or input connector, like another Boulder 50 or the older Boulder 30, by inserting the 8mm blue-ringed connector of the Boulder 50 into the 8mm input of the other Boulder Solar Panel. When chaining Boulder Solar Panels in configurations over 150W, you'll need to purchase a combiner cable from Goal Zero. Give our customer solutions center call to determine the right cable for your setup.

Q: What can I charge directly from the Boulder Solar Panels?

A: All of our Boulder Solar Panels are designed to charge Sherpa Power Packs and Goal Zero Yeti Portable Power Stations. If you're looking to recharge things like headlamps, phones and other USB devices, check out our foldable Nomad Solar Panels.

Q: How long will it take to charge my Goal Zero Yeti from a Boulder Solar Panel?

A: That depends on a few factors - how big the Yeti is, how big the Boulder is, how cloudy it is, how hot it is, just to name a few. We've created a handy calculator that takes all of these factors into consideration. Also, great news, all the Yetis allow for something called "pass-through power", this means you can be trickle charging your Yeti and using it to power your gear, all at the same time.

Q: Can I mount the Boulder Solar Panels to my roof?

A: Sure can. We designed the new Boulders to work with traditional z brackets so they're easier to install. Pairing a Boulder Solar Panel and Goal Zero Yeti Portable Power Station for a camper or van? Talk about a match made in heaven.
