The HIPS error code on the PT 6500 S means that a malfunction has been detected in the external cooling circuit, which connects the indoor unit to the external heat exchanger. This circuit circulates a water-glycol mixture that must function properly for the device to cool efficiently.
This error can have several causes. First, check the connections of the external heat exchanger: ensure that all pipes and fittings between the indoor unit and the external exchanger are properly engaged and do not have leaks. Also clean the brass filter of the pump (visible in the exploded views of the manual) and make sure it is not clogged, as a blocked filter restricts circulation.
The pump of the external circuit may also be faulty or not operating correctly. If it is blocked, the device cannot circulate the water-glycol mixture. Similarly, check that the fan of the external exchanger is running normally: a faulty fan prevents the cooling of the mixture.
Also check the outside temperature. Temperatures exceeding 35 °C can trigger this alarm because the circuit cannot maintain a proper temperature. The device is designed to operate between 7 °C and 38 °C. Finally, ensure that the compensation tank (5) contains enough water-glycol mixture, as a lack of liquid causes this error.
To resolve the issue, start by performing the checks above. Once the cause is identified and corrected, press the RESET button (40) on the device. If the problem persists, unplug the power cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the alarm. Important: after any correction, bleed the air from the cooling circuit by opening the bleed valve of the water circuit (37) located on the external exchanger, as accumulated air can cause malfunctions.
If after these checks the HIPS error reappears, the pump or the fan of the exchanger may be faulty. In this case, have the device examined by a company specialized in refrigeration and climate engineering or by Trotec, as these components require professional intervention.
