Frequently Asked Questions - TEG-S16DG TRENDNET

How to install the TEG-S16DG switch?
Unpack the switch and power cord. Place it on a flat surface or mount it in a rack using the provided kit. Plug the power cord into a nearby electrical outlet (max 1.8 m). Connect your devices via Cat.5e or higher Ethernet cables. The switch is ready to use, no configuration is needed.
What do the LEDs on the front panel mean?
The Power LED indicates power on. For each port, the 10M/LINK/ACT LED is solid green when a device is connected, blinking during activity, off otherwise. The 100M/1000M LED is green for a 2000 Mbps (Gigabit full-duplex) link, amber for 100/200 Mbps, off for 10/20 Mbps or no link.
Which cables to use for optimal performance?
For 10/100 Mbps, use Cat.5 cable. For Gigabit (1000 Mbps), use Cat.5e or Cat.6. The maximum segment length is 100 meters.
Does the switch support VLAN?
No, the TEG-S16DG is an unmanaged switch. It does not allow VLAN configuration or other management features. It simply switches packets based on MAC addresses.
How to reduce power consumption?
This switch incorporates GREENnet technology which detects cable length and automatically reduces power consumption on inactive or underutilized ports. No manual action is required.
Can I connect different types of cables (straight/crossover)?
Yes, all ports have Auto-MDIX function. They automatically detect the cable type (straight or crossover) and adjust. You can use any standard Ethernet cable.
What to do if the switch does not power on?
Check that the power cord is properly plugged in and the outlet works. Test with another cord if possible. If the Power LED remains off, contact TRENDNET support.
Is this switch compatible with PoE standard?
No, the TEG-S16DG is not a PoE switch. It does not provide power over Ethernet cables. For PoE devices, use an injector or a dedicated PoE switch.
How to mount the switch in a rack?
Use the provided mounting kit. Attach the brackets to each side of the switch using the included screws. Position the switch in the rack and screw the brackets to the rack rails. Ensure the switch is well supported (max weight 1.6 kg).
Where to find the latest firmware version?
This unmanaged switch does not require firmware updates. However, for technical information, visit the official TRENDNET website (www.trendnet.com) and search for model TEG-S16DG.

TRENDNET TEG-S16DG - Troubleshooting 5 - 2

100/200Mbps (Half/Full)

  1. After connecting the Switch to a power outlet, the LEDs do not turn on.

  2. Check the connection of the power cord to the TEG-S16g/TEG-S24g and the power outlet.

  3. Check that the power outlet is receiving power.

  4. When I connect a computer to one of the ports on the Switch, the 10M/LINK/ACT LED turns on, but I am not getting Gigabit speeds.

  5. Check the LEDs. If the 100M/1000M LED is green, the computer's connection speed is 1000Mbps. If the 100M/1000M LED is amber, the computer's connection speed is 100Mbps. If the 100M/1000M LED is off, the computer's connection speed is 10Mbps.

  6. Check the Ethernet Cable. Make sure you are using CAT-5e or CAT-6 Ethernet Cables. Some CAT-5 cables are not rated to run in Gigabit.
  7. Make sure that you have a Gigabit Ethernet Adapter installed on your computer.

  8. After I connect my PCs to the Switch, I am unable to share files.

  9. Check the LEDs on the Switch. Make sure the 10M/LINK/ACT LED is on.

  10. Check the network cable. The minimum length of the cable is 1.5 meters and the maximum length of the cable is 100 meters.
  11. Disable any software firewall program.
  12. Verify that you have file sharing enabled. Please contact your Operating System support for more information.

  13. After I connect my PCs to the Switch, I can only get onto the Internet from one computer.

The Switch was not designed to share Internet between multiple computers. You need to get an Internet router such as the TEW-652BRP.

  1. Where is the uplink port located on the Switch?

Since all the ports on the Switch are Auto-MDIX, any of the ports can be used as an uplink port.
