ADVICE FOR YOUR SAFETY
- This appliance is intended for household use. It must be used by adults only. Never leave it unsupervised when plugged into the mains.
- Before plugging in the appliance, make sure that the mains voltage matches the value shown on the appliance's rating-plate, and that the power socket is earthed. Take care not to allow water to come into contact with live parts.
- If the power cable or monotube are worn, they must be immediately replaced in our authorised service centres to avoid any damage.
- The appliance produces a large amount of steam. Do not direct the steam jet toward yourself or toward other people, animals or delicate materials.
- Do not leave the appliance within reach of children.
- Remove the power plug whenever filling. Do not put the appliance directly under the tap to fill the tank.
- Do not add chemical products to the water. Use demineralised water, but never use distilled water.
- If the generator or iron falls down on in the event of violent impact, or in case of operating faults, have your appliance checked by a technician at a Gaggia-authorised service centre.
USEFUL HINTS
We advise you to use demineralised water.
When you use the appliance for the first time, fumes or steam that are not perfectly clean could come out - this is due to the evaporation of certain substances contained in the materials used. We recommend you to leave the appliance and iron at maximum temperature for a few minutes and then direct the first steam jet toward a cloth before beginning to iron. For best ironing results, you may vary the quantity of steam according to type of fabric. To do this, turn the steam control knob on the appliance, and then press the iron push-button at intervals to obtain the necessary steam.
Ironing must be done on surfaces resistant to high temperatures, and which allow steam to permeate.
USE INSTRUCTIONS
The appliance was designed for maximum ease of use.
The tank contains cold water and, therefore, filling is absolutley safe and can be done quickly at any time.
This means you can iron non-stop without any long pauses while waiting for the boiler to fill.
A shortage of water in the tank is indicated by the indicator-light (9) going on.
FILLING THE WATER TANK
- Pull up the tank plug (5) (fig. 1) and fill the tank with about 0.8 litres of water, taking care not to allow the tank to overflow.
- Put back the plug (5).
- Fit the power plug (10) into a suitable, earthed socket.
- Turn the switch/commutator (4) into position 1 (supplying power to the generator + iron) - the steam pressure indicator-light (8) lights up.
HOW TO USE THE IRONING SYSTEM Steam ironing
- Shift the iron temperature control knob (2) in the steam zone (see symbol in fig. 2). At this temperature, you can steam iron any type of fabric.
- Wait for the steam pressure indicatorlight (8) to go off (less than three minutes). Press the iron steam control push-button (1) for the first time to release the air inside the boiler and steam tube. During this first operational stage, some small drops of water caused by condensation may come out together with the steam. We advise you to direct the first jet
toward a cloth. A few moments later, the steam indicator-light (8) goes off again and you can begin to iron in the normal way (fig. 3).
- During operation, the steam pressure indicator-light (8) goes on and off automatically according to steam consumption. At this stage, you may hear the generator buzzing at intervals. This noise is caused by the pump re-loading water into the boiler. Carry on ironing in the normal way.
- To vary the quantity of steam according to type of fabric (depending on how delicate it is), turn control knob (7) anticlockwise (to increase) or clockwise (to reduce) (fig. 4).
- A mat is supplied for parking the iron. The mat is in high temperature resistance material, and can be placed on any surface (fig. 5).
Dry ironing
- For steamless ironing, turn the switch/commutator to position 2.
- Set the iron's knob (2) to the required temperature.
- Wait for the iron indicator-light (3) to go off. Begin dry ironing without using the push-button (1) because no steam is being produced.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- Before attempting any maintenance job, unplug the appliance from the power mains socket.
- To clean the appliance, strictly use a cloth dampened in water. Do not use detergents or solvents which could damage the plastic surface.
WARNING
- To improve operation and lengthen the life of the appliance, we advise you to use demineralised water.
- In case of faults or malfunctions, never try to repair the appliance by dismantling it, but contact Gaggia's Authorised Service Centres only. The appliance is supplied with thermal protection device - if it is tripped, it must be replaced in Gaggia's Authorised Service Centres only.
- If the power cable or monotube have to be replaced, contact Gaggia's Authorised Service Centres only.
- For all repairs, use Gaggia original spare parts only.
- Do not throw the protective packing materials (for transport) into domestic refuse. We advise you to keep them for possible transport in the future.
- For disposal, make the appliance unserviceable by cutting the power lead. Deliver the out-of-service appliance to a suitable collection centre.
