Frequently Asked Questions - SENSE 8 EDILKAMIN

How do I ignite the SENSE 8 cooker for the first time?
Ensure the hopper is filled with quality wood pellets and the unit is plugged into a grounded outlet. Press the power button on the control panel or remote; the unit will automatically start the ignition sequence. The display will show "Start" and after a few minutes the pellets will ignite. Do not use any ignition fluids.
What type of pellets should I use?
Use only certified wood pellets (ENplus A1 or A2) with a diameter of 6-8 mm and a maximum moisture content of 8-10%. Low-quality pellets can cause poor combustion, increased soot, and damage to the burner.
How often should I clean the firebox?
For optimal performance, clean the burn pot and combustion chamber every day, especially before reloading. Remove ash from the ash pan at least once a week. Periodic professional cleaning of the flue is recommended annually.
Why is the stove not starting?
Common causes include a missing ignition, an empty hopper, or a safety trip. Check the pellet level, the power supply, and the door seal. If the display shows an error code, refer to the manual; often you can reset by pressing the reset button after clearing the fault.
Can I cook directly on the cast iron hotplate?
Yes, the cast iron hotplate is designed for cooking. It provides a stable flat surface for pots and pans. Start at a medium heat setting and adjust as needed. Always use oven mitts to avoid burns.
How can I adjust the room temperature?
The SENSE 8 features a remote control with a thermostat. Set the desired room temperature; the stove will automatically modulate the pellet feed and combustion air to maintain that temperature. You can also adjust heat output manually between 2 and 8 kW.
What does error code E2 mean and how do I fix it?
Error code E2 typically indicates a combustion blower failure. Check the flue for blockages and ensure the blower is not obstructed by ash. Clean the blower and reset the stove. If the problem persists, contact a certified technician.
Is the stove safe to touch during operation?
The glass panel and metal surfaces become extremely hot during operation. Although the glass is safety glass, avoid direct contact at all times. Keep children and pets away. Use the provided tools for accessing the firebox.
How do I maintain the flue and chimney?
The flue must be inspected and cleaned at least once a year, or more frequently if using the stove daily. Check for soot and creosote buildup. Use a certified chimney sweep to ensure proper draft and safety.
Can I use the stove during a power outage?
No, because the SENSE 8 requires electricity to operate the feed auger, fans, and controls. It is not designed to function without power. Consider a backup power source if heating is essential.

  • The volume of the room must be greater than that indicated in the technical table
  • The floor must be able to support the weight of the product and its accessories* (see the note in the paragraph on heat protection)
    • Make sure that the product is levelled
  • Do not install in rooms where there is a risk of fire or explosion.
    • In Italy, check compatibility pursuant to UNI 10683 and UNI 7129 in the presence of gas products.

8.3. Heat protection and safety distances

All the surfaces of the building adjacent to the product must be protected against overheating.

The insulation measures to be taken depend on the type of surfaces present.

The product must be installed in accordance with the following safety conditions:

Minimum distance from any combustible materials: see the declaration of performance on the website

In the case of installation with a wall made of wood or other flammable material, the smoke exhaust pipe must be adequately insulated.

In the case of installation on a floor made of flammable and/or combustive material or with an insufficient load-bearing capacity, it is advisable to place the product on a load distribution plate.

8.4. Chimney system (Smoke duct, chimney flue and chimney pot)

This chapter is written in accordance with European Standards EN 13384, EN 1443, EN 1856, EN 1457.

The installer must take these Standards and any other local regulations into account.

This manual is in no way to be considered as a replacement for current regulations.

The product must be connected to a suitable smoke exhaust system that guarantees the safe and complete evacuation of the smoke produced by combustion.

Before positioning the product, the installer must make sure that the chimney flue is suitable.

8.5. Smoke duct, chimney flue

The smoke duct (duct connecting the fire box smoke outlet to the chimney flue inlet) and the chimney flue must, among other regulatory requirements, in general:

  • Receive the smoke coming from only one product (it cannot receive the smoke coming from several products); in some countries there are specific regulations: it is the responsibility of the installer to assess compliance with local regulations.
  • Have a predominantly vertical development.
  • Not have any counter-sloping sections.
    • Have a preferably circular inner cross-section and in any case with a ratio between sides of less than 1.5.
  • End on the roof with a suitable chimney pot: it is forbidden to discharge directly from the wall or towards enclosed spaces, even if outdoors.
    • Be made of materials with fire reaction class A1 pursuant to UNI EN 13501 or similar national Standard.
  • Be suitably certified, with an appropriate chimney plate if metal.
  • Maintain the initial section or vary it only immediately above the product outlet and not along the chimney flue

8.6. Smoke duct

In addition to the general requirements applicable to the smoke duct and to the chimney flue, the smoke duct:

  • Must not be made of a flexible metal material.
  • Must be insulated if it passes through unheated rooms or if it passes outside.
  • It must not pass though rooms in which it is forbidden to install combustion heat generators or rooms where there is a risk of fire or rooms that cannot be inspected.
  • It must allow the recovery of soot and it must be inspectable.
  • In general, it must not have more than 3 bends with a maximum angle of 90° , the assessment of which is the responsibility of the technician in charge of sizing the system.
  • In general, any horizontal section can have a maximum (average) length of 3 metres, depending on the draught. However, bear in mind that long sections facilitate the accumulation of dirt and are more difficult to clean; the assessment is the responsibility of the technician in charge of sizing the system.

8.7. The chimney flue

In addition to the general requirements applicable to the smoke duct and to the chimney flue, the chimney flue:

  • Must only be used to discharge smoke.
  • Must be correctly sized to meet smoke evacuation requirements (EN 13384-1 non-exhaustive example)
  • Is preferably insulated, made of steel and with a circular inner cross-section. If rectangular, the edges must normally have a radius of not less than 20 mm and a ratio between internal dimensions <1.5.
  • Normally have a minimum height of 1.5 metres.
  • Maintain a constant cross-section.
  • Be waterproof and thermally insulated to ensure draught.
  • Preferably have a collection chamber for unburnt material and any condensation.
  • If pre-existing, it must be cleaned, to avoid fire hazards.

- As a general guideline, it is advisable to duct the chimney flue if its diameter is greater than 150 mm, the assessment of which is the responsibility of the technician in charge of sizing the system.

8.8. Ducted system

In addition to the general requirements applicable to the smoke duct and to the chimney flue, the ducted system:

  • Must operate under negative pressure.
  • Must be inspectable.
  • Must comply with local regulations.

8.9. The chimney pot

  • Must be windproof.
  • Must have an inner cross-section equivalent to that of the chimney flue and an outlet smoke passage cross-section equal to at least twice the inner cross-section of the chimney flue.
  • In the case of paired chimney flues (which should be at least 2 m apart), the chimney pot that receives the solid fuel product discharge or that of the highest floor must be at least 50 cm above the other.
  • Must go beyond the reflux area (in Italy, refer to Standard UNI 10683)
  • Must allow for maintenance operations to be performed on the chimney

8.10. External air intake

In general, we suggest two alternative ways of ensuring the flow of essential air for combustion:

  • indirect air intake
  • direct air intake

8.11. Indirect air intake

Prepare, at floor level, an air intake with a useful surface area (net of any meshes or other protections) of at least 80 cm2 (diameter 10 cm).

In order to avoid draughts, it is advisable to place the air intake behind the stove or behind a radiator.

It is advisable not to have it in front of the product to avoid draughts.

8.12. Direct air intake

Prepare an air intake with a useful cross-section (net of any meshes or other protection) with a surface area at least equal to the cross-section of the air inlet hole behind the product.

Assess the diameter according to the pressure drops.

Connect the air intake to the hole with a pipe, even a flexible hose.

Increase the diameter of the pipe if the pipe is not smooth: assess the pressure drops.

It is advisable not to exceed 5 m and to have no more than 3 bends, depending on the chimney flue draught.

The inflowing air can come from an adjacent room provided that:

  • The flow does not encounter any obstacles as it travels though permanent openings communicating with the outside
  • The room adjacent to the installation room is never depressurised with respect to outside.
    • The adjacent room is not used as a garage or for activities causing a risk of fire, nor is it a bathroom or a bedroom.
  • The adjacent room is not a common room of the building

In Italy, Standard UNI 10683 indicates that ventilation is sufficient even if the pressure difference between the external and the internal environment is maintained at 4 Pa or less (Standard UNI EN 13384-1 non-exhaustive example).

The installer who issues the declaration of conformity is responsible for this.

8.13. Electrical connection

Place the socket in an easily accessible position.

Voltage variations greater than 10% may compromise operation.

The electrical system must be in accordance with current regulations; in particular, check the efficiency of the earthing system.

EDILKAMIN SENSE 8 - Electrical connection - 1

The inefficiency of the earthing system causes malfunctions for which Edilkamin shall not be held responsible. The power line must have a suitable cross-section for the power of the appliance.
