How to power the FDR-1 pedal?

The pedal can be powered by a 9V battery (carbon 6F22 or alkaline 6LR61) or by a specific AC adapter (PSA series, optional). When an adapter is connected, power is drawn from the adapter. If a battery is installed, it serves as backup in case of power interruption. To conserve battery, disconnect the cable from the INPUT jack when not using the pedal.

How to replace the battery?

When the CHECK indicator dims or no longer lights, the battery should be replaced. To do so, step on the pedal, loosen the screw by hand and open the case. Remove the old battery, disconnect its contacts, then connect a new battery observing polarity. Close the pedal and tighten the screw. Alkaline battery is recommended.

What does the CHECK indicator mean?

The CHECK indicator lights when the effect is on (pedal depressed). It also serves as a battery condition indicator: if it dims or goes out when the effect is on, the battery is low and should be replaced. Note: The indicator does not show whether the pedal is powered on; it only shows the effect status.

How to set the vibrato speed using the pedal?

To set the vibrato speed by tapping on the pedal, first turn on the effect (CHECK indicator red). Hold down the pedal for at least two seconds, then tap the pedal at the desired tempo. Finally, hold down the pedal again for two seconds to memorize the speed. You can also adjust the speed using the VIBRATO control while holding down the pedal.

What order should I follow for connections?

For powering on, first connect all cables, then turn on the guitar amplifier last. For powering off, turn off the amplifier first. Always set the volume to minimum before turning on the pedal. Inserting a plug into the INPUT jack powers on the pedal; disconnect it to turn it off.

What settings do you recommend for a Fender amplifier?

For a Fender combo amplifier, set the amp controls as follows: BRIGHT to OFF, TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS to taste. On the FDR-1 pedal, start with a clean (undistorted) setting on the amp. Use the GAIN control to adjust distortion and the BASS/TREBLE controls for tone. Adjust LEVEL so there is no volume difference between effect on and bypass.

Why is there no sound or is the volume low?

First check that your instrument is properly connected to the INPUT jack and the amplifier is correctly connected to the OUTPUT jack. Make sure the LEVEL control is not turned too low (turn it to the right). Also check the amplifier volume. If the battery is low, replace it. Finally, confirm the pedal is powered on: a cable must be inserted into INPUT.

How to use the vibrato effect?

Vibrato is an effect that cyclically varies the volume. To activate it, press down the pedal. Adjust its intensity with the VIBRATO control (turn right for more effect). You can change the vibrato speed by tapping on the pedal (see dedicated question) or by turning the VIBRATO control while holding down the pedal. The speed can be memorized.

What is the battery life?

In continuous use, a carbon battery lasts about 2.7 hours and an alkaline battery about 9 hours. These times vary depending on usage. The supplied battery is for testing; replace it with an alkaline battery for longer life. To conserve battery, disconnect the cable from the INPUT jack after use.

How to clean the FDR-1 pedal?

To clean the pedal, use a soft, dry cloth. Never use solvents, alcohol, or chemicals that could damage the finish. If necessary, you can slightly dampen the cloth with water, but wring it well first. Avoid allowing moisture to enter the connectors or the interior of the pedal.
