Frequently Asked Questions - MSO5204 Rigol
How to measure a DC voltage?
Connect the probe to the channel input and set vertical scale (VOLTS/DIV) appropriately. Press Auto Set or manually adjust horizontal and vertical. Read voltage from cursor or measurement menu.
How to use the trigger function?
Press the Trigger menu. Select trigger type (Edge, Pulse, etc.). Set slope (rising/falling) and level. For edge trigger, adjust level using the Level knob.
How to capture a single shot waveform?
Set trigger mode to Normal or Single. Press Run/Stop once to arm the trigger. The oscilloscope waits for the trigger condition and then captures the waveform.
How to perform FFT analysis?
Press Math button, select FFT. Choose source channel and window type (Hanning, Hamming, etc.). Adjust frequency span and center frequency using the scales.
How to save a waveform or screenshot?
Insert a USB flash drive. Press Save/Recall, choose Storage and file type (BMP, CSV, etc.). For waveform, select Waveform format. Press Save Now.
What is the maximum input voltage?
The maximum input voltage is 300 V RMS (CAT I). With a 10x probe, it can measure up to 3000 V. Ensure not to exceed ratings to avoid damage.
How to compensate a probe?
Connect the probe to the Probe Comp terminal. Set probe attenuation (e.g., 10x). Adjust the compensation screw on the probe box until the square wave is flat.
How to measure frequency and period?
Apply a signal. Open the Measure menu, add measurements. Select Frequency and Period. The values appear on screen. Alternatively use cursors.
How to decode serial data (e.g., UART)?
Connect signals to digital lines (or analog). Press Decode button, select protocol (UART). Set baud rate, parity, data bits. Decoded information appears in a bus display.
How to update firmware?
Download the latest firmware from Rigol website. Copy to USB flash drive. On oscilloscope, press Utility -> Update and follow prompts. Do not power off during update.
