Frequently Asked Questions - VGW-420FS Planet

How do I perform a factory reset on the VGW-420FS?

Press and hold the reset button on the front panel for about 10 seconds until the system LED blinks. The device will reboot with factory defaults.

How can I access the web management interface?

Connect your computer to any port, set a static IP in the same subnet as the switch (default 192.168.0.100), and open a browser to http://192.168.0.100. Default login: admin/admin.

What is the default IP address and login credentials?

Default IP: 192.168.0.100, username: admin, password: admin. It is recommended to change these upon initial setup.

How do I update the firmware?

Download the latest firmware from Planet's support website. Go to System > Firmware Upgrade in the web GUI, select the file, and click Upgrade. Do not power off during the process.

The SFP+ ports are not working. What should I check?

Verify the SFP modules are compatible and properly inserted. Check the link status in the web GUI. Ensure the fiber cables are clean and the remote device is operational.

Can I configure VLANs via the CLI?

Yes, use the command line interface via Telnet or SSH. For example: vlan database then vlan 10 name Sales.

How do I configure port mirroring?

In the web GUI, go to Monitor > Mirror. Select the source port(s) and destination port where the mirrored traffic will be sent.

What is the maximum cable length for the RJ45 ports?

The RJ45 ports support up to 100 meters (328 feet) on Category 5e or better UTP cable.

How do I enable SNMP on the switch?

Go to Management > SNMP in the web GUI. Enable SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and configure community strings (e.g., public/private for v1/v2c).

The fan is loud. Can I replace it?

Yes, the fan modules are user-replaceable. Purchase a compatible fan from Planet's spare parts department. Disconnect power before replacing.

This power required device does not support Standby mode operation. For energy saving, please remove the DC-plug or push the hardware Power Switch to OFF position to disconnect the device from the power circuit.
