Frequently Asked Questions - D6 JURA

What specialties can the JURA D6 prepare?
The JURA D6 prepares 7 specialties: espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, cappuccino, milk foam, and hot water. Each drink is freshly prepared on demand from freshly ground beans thanks to the integrated AromaG2 grinder.
What is the pump pressure of the JURA D6?
The pump delivers 15 bars of pressure, ensuring optimal extraction and a dense crema on the espresso. This is the standard recommended pressure for quality automatic espresso machines.
Does the JURA D6 accept ground coffee?
No, the JURA D6 works only with whole beans, stored in the 200 g hopper. It does not have a chute for ground coffee. It is advised to use non-oily beans to preserve the AromaG2 grinder.
What is the P.E.P.® technology on the JURA D6?
The Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.®) is an exclusive JURA technology that optimizes the extraction of short coffees like espresso. It prolongs the water-coffee contact time with pulses to release more aromas and achieve a denser crema.
How to clean and maintain the JURA D6?
The machine automatically triggers its cleaning and rinsing programs after a certain number of cycles. Regularly empty the coffee grounds container (capacity 16 portions) and the water tank (1.9 liters). Do not ignore the alerts displayed on the text screen to maintain coffee quality.
How to descale the JURA D6?
An automatic descaling program is integrated and is activated based on the water hardness and the number of cycles. Use JURA descaling tablets with water in the tank. The machine guides you step by step via the text display throughout the procedure.
Can the JURA D6 be controlled from a smartphone?
The D6 is Wireless Ready: by adding the Smart Connect accessory (sold separately), you can control it via the JURA App on a smartphone or tablet. Without this accessory, the machine is controlled only via the integrated rotary selector.
Which water filter should be used with the JURA D6?
The D6 is compatible with CLARIS Smart filters. The IWS® (Intelligent Water System) automatically detects the filter via RFID chip and adapts the maintenance management. CLARIS filters eliminate lime, chlorine, and heavy metals to preserve aromas.
How to adjust the coffee intensity and quantity on the JURA D6?
The coffee intensity is adjustable on 4 levels via the rotary selector. The amount of coffee per dose is adjustable between 5 and 16 grams. The brewing temperature is available in 2 levels, as is the hot water temperature.
What are the dimensions and weight of the JURA D6?
The JURA D6 measures 28 cm wide, 34.5 cm high, and 41.5 cm deep, with a weight of 8.7 kg. These compact dimensions make it suitable for most kitchen countertops.
Why does the JURA D6 display a maintenance message?
These alerts indicate that a cleaning, rinsing, or descaling is necessary based on the number of cycles completed. It is important to follow them without ignoring: regular maintenance ensures coffee quality and extends the machine's lifespan.
Does the JURA D6 automatically prepare cappuccino?
Yes, the D6 prepares a cappuccino at the press of a button. An aspiration tube connects directly to a milk container to froth the milk and pour it into the cup. Everything is automatically managed by the machine.

What does the message "turn to open then turn to close" mean on my JURA D6 coffee machine and how can I resolve it?
Frequently Asked Questions - 23/01/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The message "turn to open then turn to close" that appears on your JURA D6 coffee machine is a usage guide for the three-position switch located on the right side of the machine. This switch controls the hot water and milk foam system. This message typically appears during important maintenance operations, such as the initial filling of the system, descaling, changing the filter, or cleaning the milk system.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Turn to open: Turn the switch counterclockwise to the position "m" (for milk/foam). A light segment will illuminate on the switch to confirm that you have reached the correct position. This is when the system initiates the operation (filter rinsing, descaling, milk cleaning, etc.).
  • Turn to close: Once the operation is complete or on hold, return the switch to the position "°" (off). Turn it clockwise until you feel a slight resistance.

Contexts in which this message appears: This message particularly appears during the first commissioning (filling the system and rinsing the initial filter), when changing the CLARIS Smart filter cartridge, when cleaning the milk system with JURA maintenance products, or during the descaling of the machine. In each case, the procedure remains the same: open the flow by turning to position "m", wait for the operation to finish, then close by returning to position "°".

If after correctly opening and closing the switch the message persists or if the machine does not perform the expected operation, this may indicate a malfunction of the sensor or the switch itself. In this situation, check that the switch moves freely and does not have any coffee or milk residues that could block it. You can clean around the switch with a damp cloth. If the problem continues after a thorough cleaning of the machine, contact the JURA customer service in your country (find the contact details at www.jura.com).

Important information

Proper use

The machine is designed and intended for private domestic use. It should only be used for coffee preparation and to heat milk and water. Use for any other purpose will be deemed improper. JURA Elektroapparate AG cannot accept any responsibility for the consequences of improper use.

Before using the machine read these instructions for use thoroughly and completely and comply with the instructions they contain. A warranty service is not applicable for damage or defects caused by non-compliance with the instructions for use. Keep these instructions for use close to the machine and pass them on to the next user.

For your safety

JURA D6 - For your safety - 1

Please carefully read and observe the important safety information set out below.

To avoid danger of potentially fatal electric shock:

  • Never use a machine which is damaged or has a defective mains cable.
In the event of signs of damage, for example if there is a smell of burning, unplug the machine immediately from the mains supply and contact JURA service.
If the mains cable of this machine is damaged, it must be repaired either directly by JURA or by an authorised JURA service centre.
Make sure that the D6 and the mains cable are not located close to hot surfaces.
  • Be careful to ensure that the mains cable is not trapped and does not rub against sharp edges.

  • Never open and repair the machine yourself. Do not modify the machine in any way that is not described in these instructions for use. The machine contains live parts. If opened, there is a danger of potentially fatal injury. Repairs may only be carried out by authorised JURA service centres, using original spare parts and accessories.

  • To completely and safely disconnect the machine from the power supply, first switch off the D6 using the On/Off button. Only then should you remove the mains plug from the power socket.

There is a risk of scalds or burns on the spouts and fine foam frother:

Place the machine out of the reach of children.
- Do not touch any hot parts. Use the handles provided.
- Be careful to ensure that the fine foam frother is correctly installed and clean. If incorrectly fitted or if it becomes blocked, the fine foam frother or its parts might come off.

A defective machine is not safe and could cause injury or fire. To avoid damage and any associated risk of injury or fire:

  • Never allow the mains cable to loosely hang down. The mains cable could pose a tripping hazard or become damaged.
  • Protect the D6 from environmental influences such as rain, frost and direct sunlight.
  • Do not immerse the D6, mains cable or connections in water.
  • Do not put the D6 or any individual parts in the dishwasher.

Before cleaning, switch the D6 off with the On/Off button. Always wipe the D6 with a damp cloth rather than a wet one, and protect it from prolonged exposure to water splash.
- Only connect the machine to the mains voltage in accordance with the information on the rating plate. The rating plate is located on the underside of your D6. Further technical data is provided in these instructions for use (see Chapter 9 'Technical data').
- Connect the D6 directly to a domestic power socket. Using multi SOCKET adapters or extension cords may cause overheating.
- Please only use original JURA maintenance products. Use of products that are not explicitly recommended by JURA could damage the machine.
- Do not use any coffee beans treated with additives or caramelised coffee beans.
Only fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
- Switch the machine off with the On/Off button if you are going to be absent for a longer period of time and remove the mains plug from the power socket.
Children may not clean or service the machine unless supervised by a responsible person.
- Do not allow children to play with the machine.
- Keep children under the age of 8 away from the machine, or supervise them constantly.
Children aged 8 and over may only operate the machine without supervision if they have been instructed in how to use it safely. Children must be able to recognise and understand the potential dangers arising from incorrect use.

People, including children, who

do not have the physical, sensory or mental capabilities to use the machine safely or
are inexperienced or lack knowledge in how to use the machine safely

must be supervised by a responsible person when using it, or must be instructed in how to use it correctly.

Safety when handling the CLARIS Smart filter cartridge:

Filter cartridges should be kept out of the reach of children.
- Store filter cartridges in a dry place in the sealed packaging.
- Protect cartridges from heat and direct sunlight.
- Do not use damaged filter cartridges.
- Do not open filter cartridges.

CAUTION

The bean container has an aroma preservation cover. This will ensure that your coffee beans retain their aroma for longer.

Coffee beans which have been treated with additives (e.g. sugar), ground coffee or freeze-dried coffee will damage the grinder.

  • Only use roasted, untreated coffee beans to fill the bean container.

  • Open the bean container cover and remove the aroma preservation cover.

  • Remove any dirt or foreign objects from inside the bean container.
  • Fill the bean container with coffee beans, then close the aroma preservation cover and the bean container cover.

Determining the water hardness

When you use the machine for the first time, you must set the water hardness. If you do not know the hardness of your water, you can find this out first. Use the Aquadur® test strips supplied with the machine.

  • Hold the test strip briefly (for 1 second) under flowing water. Shake off the water.
    Wait for about 1 minute.
  • You will then be able to read the degree of water hardness from the discolouration of the Aquadur® test strip and the description on the packaging.

2 Preparation

2 Preparation

Basic information about preparing drinks:

During the grinding operation you can select the coffee strength of single products by turning the Rotary Switch: MILD, NORMAL, STRONG or EXTRA.
During preparation, you can change the preset amounts (e.g. amount of water or milk foam) by turning the Rotary Switch.
- You can stop preparation at any time. Just press the Rotary Switch (for a speciality coffee) or return the switch to its original position (for milk foam and hot water).
The last speciality coffee prepared is always displayed, even if the D6 was switched off in the meantime.

Coffee tastes best served hot. A cold porcelain cup cools the beverage – and impairs the taste. We therefore recommend prewarming the cups. The full coffee aroma can develop only in prewarmed cups. You can purchase a JURA cup warmer from your specialised dealer.

You can make permanent settings for all products in programming mode (see Chapter 4 'Permanent settings in programming mode - Product settings').
