Frequently Asked Questions - CF-259ELF Vivax

How do I adjust the temperature on my Vivax CF-259ELF refrigerator?
Use the mechanical dial inside the refrigerator compartment. Turn it to a higher number for colder temperature and lower number for warmer. Typically, setting 3-4 is recommended for normal use.
What should I do if the refrigerator is not cooling enough?
Check if the door is properly closed and the seal is clean. Also ensure the condenser coils at the back are free of dust. If problem persists, the thermostat may need adjustment or replacement.
How often should I defrost the freezer?
Defrost the freezer when ice thickness exceeds 5 mm. This usually happens every 3-6 months depending on usage. Follow the manual's instructions for manual defrosting.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes, the door is reversible. You can change the hinges to open from the left or right. Refer to the user manual for step-by-step instructions.
What does the alarm sound mean?
An alarm may indicate the door is left open or the internal temperature is too high. Close the door firmly and ensure the temperature settings are correct. The alarm should stop automatically.
How do I clean the refrigerator?
Unplug the appliance before cleaning. Use a soft cloth with mild detergent and warm water. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Clean the door gaskets regularly to ensure a good seal.
What should I do if the interior light doesn't work?
The light is an LED bulb; if it fails, contact a service center for replacement. Check that the door switch is functioning properly.
My refrigerator is making loud noises. Is this normal?
Some noise is normal, such as from the compressor or refrigerant flow. If you hear irregular sounds like clicking or rattling, check if the appliance is level and objects are not vibrating against it.
How do I change the fridge's temperature in hot weather?
Set the thermostat to a colder setting (higher number) to compensate for the ambient heat. Avoid overfilling the fridge and keep the door closed as much as possible.
What is the correct storage temperature for food?
The refrigerator compartment should be kept between 2°C and 8°C, and the freezer at -18°C or below. Use a thermometer to verify if needed.

Your email remains private: it is only used to notify you if someone answers your question.

What temperature setting should I choose for my Vivax CF-259ELF when it's very hot outside (40°C)?
Frequently Asked Questions - 15 d
Response Notice-Facile

In case of high outdoor temperatures (40°C), set the thermostat to the coldest position (Max) to maintain an adequate internal temperature.

Recommended temperature settings:

  • Fridge compartment: 2-8°C
  • Freezer: -18°C or lower

Normally, the "Med" (3-4) position is sufficient, but during very hot summer days, it is necessary to increase the cooling power by switching to the Max position to compensate for the intense outdoor heat.

Important tip: Avoid frequently opening the refrigerator door when it is very hot, as this destabilizes the internal temperature. If you find that the fridge is not cooling sufficiently despite the Max setting, check that the appliance is not directly exposed to sunlight and that the back space has good ventilation.

After the first start-up of the Vivax CF-259ELF, how long should I wait before putting in food and drinks?
Frequently Asked Questions - 15 d
Response Notice-Facile

After the first start-up of your Vivax CF-259ELF refrigerator, it is recommended to wait before inserting your food and drinks. The PDF of this manual does not specify the exact waiting time; however, the standard practice for this type of appliance is to wait between 2 and 4 hours.

This waiting period allows the cooling system to reach a stable and optimal temperature. During this time, you can:

  • Leave the refrigerator plugged in and closed
  • Clean the interior if necessary
  • Check that all accessories (shelves, door bins) are properly in place

Once the waiting time has elapsed, your Vivax CF-259ELF will be ready to optimally preserve your food.

Respond (be the first)
Why are the side walls of the refrigerator warm?
Frequently Asked Questions - 15 d
Response Notice-Facile

The side walls of your CF-259ELF refrigerator may feel warm to the touch. This is a perfectly normal and expected phenomenon for this type of appliance.

Why?

Modern refrigerators incorporate condensation coils in the side walls. These coils circulate the hot refrigerant that has just been compressed by the compressor. This heat is intentionally discharged into the walls to allow the cooling system to function properly.

This heat dissipated in the side walls is part of the normal thermodynamic cycle of your appliance and helps to:

  • Maintain the energy efficiency of the cooling system
  • Prevent moisture accumulation on the external side walls
  • Optimize the circulation of cold air inside the refrigeration chamber

Is this normal?

Yes. The walls can reach a moderate temperature (warm to the touch) without risk. This means that your CF-259ELF refrigerator is functioning properly.

However, if the walls are excessively hot (to the point of burning fingers) or if the appliance is no longer cooling adequately, please contact customer service.

In order to make the most of the volume of the fresh food storage compartment and frozen-food storage compartment, the user can remove one or more shelves or drawers from the appliance, according to your daily use.

Refrigerator compartment and Freezer

Cooling compartment in the refrigerator is suitable for cooling foods such as fruits, vegetables, beverages, and other foods that are consumed in the short term; suggested storage time is 3 to 5 days.

Warm food must not be placed in the refrigerator until it has cooled to room temperature.

It is recommended that foods are tightly closed (in a container or plastic bag) before placing them in the refrigerator.

Shelves can be moved to adjust the space inside the refrigerator in order to optimally organize space.

The freezer is used for long-term storage of food (up to 6 months).

For additional information about possible storage duration, check the packaging of the product or food.

Never freeze again already thawed food.

Tips for Keeping Food in the Unit

◆ Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that they do not come into contact with or drip onto other food. Cooked meats/fishes should always be stored on a shelf above raw meats/fishes to avoid bacterial transfer. Keep raw meats/fishes in a container which is large enough to collect juices and cover it properly. Place the container on the lowest shelf. Leave space around your food to allow air to circulate inside the unit. Ensure all parts of the unit are kept cool. ◆ To prevent transfer of flavors and drying out, pack or cover the food separately. Fruit and vegetables do not need to be wrapped. ◆ Always let pre-cooked food cool down before you put it in the unit. This will help to maintain the internal temperature of the unit. ◆ To avoid contamination of the food, please respect the following instructions:

  • Opening the door for long periods can cause a significant increase in the temperature in the compartments of the appliance.
  • Clean regularly surfaces that can come in contact with food and accessible drainage systems.
  • Clean water tanks if they have not been used for 48 hours; flush the water system connected to a water supply if water has not been drawn for 5 days.
  • To prevent cold air escaping from the unit, try to limit the number of times you open the door. We recommend that you only open the door when you need to put food in or take food out.

- In case your device has a freezing compartment with 4 stars, this refrigerating appliance is suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

In case your device has a freezing compartment with 1, 2, or 3 stars, this refrigerating appliance is NOT suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

  • Two-star * frozen-food compartments are suitable for storing pre-frozen food, storing or making ice cream, and making ice cubes.
  • One-, two- and three-star compartments are not suitable for freezing fresh food.
  • If the refrigerating appliance is left empty for long periods, switch it off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave the door open to prevent mould from developing inside the appliance.

First Start

Cleaning Before Use

Wipe the inside of the unit with a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda. Then rinse with warm water using a wrung-out sponge or cloth. Wash the shelves and salad bin in warm soapy water and dry completely before replacing them in the unit.

Clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth.

If you require more information, refer to the Cleaning section.

Vivax CF-259ELF - Cleaning Before Use - 2

◆ Before Plugging In

You must check that you have a socket compatible with the plug supplied with the unit.

◆ Before Turning On!

Do not turn on until one hour after moving the unit.

The refrigerator should run for 2 to 3 hours before loading fresh or frozen foods; in summer, it should run for more than 4 hours in advance, considering that the ambient temperature is high.

Operation

Switching On Your Unit

◆ The temperature selector knob is located inside the refrigerator compartment.

When the Thermostat knob is turned up to the end position, below the "Min" position (1), the Refrigerator will stop cooling.

Setting "MIN" (1-2): Less Cool Temperature

Setting "MED" (3-4): Normal Operation (adequate for most situations)

Setting "MAX" (5-6): Coolest Temperature

During high ambient temperatures, e.g., on hot summer days, it may be necessary to set the thermostat to the coolest setting (position "MAX" (5-6)). Turn the knob clockwise.

Close-up of a metallic object with engraved 'MAX 800' text, no other visible symbols or markings

MEG MAX

This may cause the compressor to run continuously in order to maintain a low temperature in the cabinet.

For the first time you install your refrigerator, set the thermostat knob at "MED" (3-4) (middle position). Give your freezer time to cool down completely before adding food. It is best to wait 24 hours before adding food. The thermostat knob controls the temperature.

When the thermostat control knob is set to the OFF position, the refrigerator will not be running.

WARNING: In the lowest thermostat position, although the fridge is not cooling, it does not mean that the device is disconnected from the power supply. For cleaning and maintenance, disconnect the power supply by pulling the power plug out of the socket.

Noise Inside the Unit!

You may notice that your unit makes some unusual noises. Most of these are perfectly normal, but you should be aware of them!

These noises are caused by the circulation of the refrigerant liquid in the cooling system. It has become more pronounced since the introduction of CFC-free gases. This is not a fault and will not affect the performance of your unit. This is the compressor motor working, as it pumps the refrigerant around the system.

Change the Light Bulb

The LED lamp must be replaced by authorized service. Please contact authorized service or manufacturer.

◆ Remove all the shelves and the salad bin. To remove the salad bin, first remove the lower door shelf. ◆ Wipe the inside of the unit with a weak solution of bicarbonate soda and then rinse with warm water using a “wrung-out” sponge or cloth. Wipe completely dry before replacing the shelves and salad bin.

◆ Use a damp cloth to clean the exterior, and then wipe with a standard furniture polish. Make sure that the door is closed to avoid the polish getting on the magnetic door seal or inside the unit. The grille of the condenser at the back of the unit and the adjacent components can be vacuumed using a soft brush attachment.

Cleaning Tips

Condensation may appear on the outside of the unit. This may be due to a change in room temperature. Wipe off any moisture residue. If the problem continues, please contact a qualified technician for assistance.

Do not use hard brushes, clean steel balls, wire brushes, abrasives, such as toothpastes, organic solvents (such as alcohol, acetone, banana oil, etc.), boiling water, acid or alkaline items to clean the refrigerator, considering that this may damage the fridge surface and interior.

Do not rinse with water so as not to affect the electrical insulation properties. Please use a dry cloth when cleaning lighting lamps, temperature control knob and electrical components.

Defrost

Defrost the freezing compartment whenever the layer of frost on the surface of the evaporator reaches 3 or 4 mm.

  1. Set the thermostat at "OFF" position and disconnect the refrigerator from the main supply.
  2. Remove drawers with frozen food. Store frozen food in some cold place.
  3. Put the drip tray under the evaporator to collect melted water. To improve melting, you can put a bowl with hot water inside the compartment.
  4. After the frost has melted, discard the melted water and clean all the interior.
  5. Dry up the interior of refrigerator.
  6. Put drawer into compartment and put back frozen foods.
  7. Plug in refrigerator on main supply and turn thermostat to the desired setting.

It is recommended that you use frozen food as soon as possible.

Please remove the food and put in a cool place when defrosting before removing drawers and other accessories.

Switching Off for Long Periods of Time

Foods can be preserved for a couple of hours even in summer in case of power failure; it is recommended to reduce the frequency of opening door and do not put fresh foods into the freezer.

When the unit is not in use for a long period of time, disconnect it from the mains supply, empty all food and clean the appliance. Keep the door open to avoid the bad odor.

Vivax CF-259ELF - Switching Off for Long Periods of Time - 1

Continuous operation is recommended when the refrigerator is started.

Please do not move the refrigerator under normal circumstances so as not to affect the refrigerator's service life.

Tips for Energy Savings

Try not to open the door too often, especially when the weather is wet and hot. Once you open the door, close it as soon as possible.

Every now and then, check if the appliance is sufficiently ventilated (adequate air circulation behind the appliance).

In normal temperature conditions, please set the thermostat to the middle setting.

Before loading the appliance with packages of fresh food, make sure they are cooled to ambient temperature.

Ice and frost layer increase energy consumption, so clean the appliance as soon as the layer is 3-5 mm thick.

If it is the outer condenser, the rear wall should be always clean and free of dust or any impurities. ◆ The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of direct sunlight. ◆ Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing them in the appliance. ◆ Overloading the appliance forces the compressor to run longer. ◆ Foods that freeze too slowly may lose quality or spoil. Be sure to wrap foods properly, and wipe containers dry before placing them in the appliance. This cuts down on frost build-up inside the appliance. ◆ The appliance storage bin should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the appliance less efficient. ◆ Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches. ◆ Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon as possible.
