Your new glass kettle DESIGN TEA AROMA PLUS will heat up water to an individually selected temperature in the range of 60 °C to 100 °C (boiling) and keep the water at the set temperature thereafter, thus providing perfect conditions for preparing tea directly within the kettle. For this you may use the designated tea filter or common tea bags. Various pre-set programs for several types of tea support you in selecting and keeping the correct temperature and steeping time. Due to the glass kettle, you can monitor the steeping process at a glance, thus getting the desired results easily.

The information in this booklet will easily and quickly inform you on the helpful benefits of your new glass kettle DESIGN TEA AROMA PLUS.

Carefully read all instructions, before operating this appliance and save for further reference. Do not attempt to use this appliance in any other way and for any other purpose, than described in these instructions (intended use). Any other use, especially misuse, can cause severe injuries or damage by electric shock, heat, or fire.

These instructions are an essential part of the appliance. Do not pass the appliance without this booklet to third parties.

Any operation, repair and technical maintenance of the appliance or any part of it other than described in these instructions may only be performed at an authorised service centre (see: 'Warranty').

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

- This appliance is for household use only and NOT intended for use in moving vehicles. Do not operate or store the appliance in humid or wet areas or outdoors. Any use of accessories, attachments or spare parts that are not recommended by the manufacturer or damaged in any way may result in injuries to persons and/or damage.

- DO NOT leave the appliance switched on and/or the power base connected to the power supply uselessly. Unplug the appliance, when it is not in use.

- Check the entire appliance regularly for proper operation (e.g. check for distortion, cracks, leaks, corroded pins of the electrical connectors). Do not operate the appliance, when liquids escape during operation. Do not operate the appliance, when the appliance or any part of it is likely to be damaged, to avoid risk of fire, electric shock or any other injuries to persons and/or damage. The appliance or its parts are likely to be damaged, if the appliance has been subject to inadmissible strain (e.g. over heating, mechanical or electric shock), or if there are any cracks, chipped edges, or leaks, excessively frayed or melted parts, or distortions, or if the appliance is not working properly. If one of these cases occur during operation, immediately unplug the appliance, and get in contact with an authorized service centre for examination and/or repair.

• Always handle the glass kettle with special care. Do not expose

the glass kettle to any excessive mechanical stress or extreme variations in temperature, to avoid cracks, injuries and damage. Do not fill the kettle anew with cold water, when the kettle is still hot, to avoid cracks and leakage. When adding cold water during operation, do not let cold water run down the side walls of the kettle but pour the water slowly into the middle of the kettle. Do not use the glass parts any more, with the glass cracked or chipped in any way. Even small splinters could cause severe injuries, when getting into your food or beverages.

• Operate the appliance on a well accessible, stable, level, clean, dry, and suitable large table or counter that is resistant against heat and water. Always wipe off spilled liquids immediately. Always keep the appliance in sufficient distance to the edge of the table or counter and to other objects. For operation, leave at least 1 m of free space above the appliance and at least 20 cm of free space on each side, to avoid damage due to steam and hot water. Do not operate the appliance under overhanging boards and drop-lights or near any delicate objects (e.g. curtains) to avoid damage due to hot steam and water, overheating, and fire.
• Do not place any clothes or tissue or other foreign objects under or on the appliance during operation, to avoid risk of fire, electric shock, and overheating. Do not place any hard and/or heavy objects on or in the appliance or any part of it. Do not place the appliance close to a power cord.
• This appliance may be used or handled by persons (including children from 8 years and above) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision and/or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety, and if they understand and consider the involved hazards. Even cleaning may not be performed by children without supervision. Children must always be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance or any part of the appliance or the packaging. Always keep the appliance where it is dry, frost-free, and clean, and where young children cannot reach it. Do not leave the appliance or any part of it

unattended, when it is in reach of young children.

- Do not place the appliance or any part of it on or near hot surfaces (e.g. burner, heater, or oven). Do not heat any parts or accessories of the appliance via any external sources of heat (e.g. range, microwave, teapot warmer). Do not use any parts of the appliance with any other device or for any purpose not described in this booklet. Do not handle the appliance or any part of it with violence.

- Always switch OFF the appliance (hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds), unplug and wait for the appliance to cool down completely, before cleaning the appliance and when the appliance is not in use. Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects with the appliance (e.g. forks, knives, scrapers). The kettle is intended only for heating clear drinking water and/or tea. For de-scaling, only use the liquids recommended in this booklet. Do not fill in any other liquids or food to avoid injuries and damage due to fire, electric shock, and high temperatures. We recommend to use clear tap water or bottled water with low mineral content. Avoid using de-mineralized water or mineral water.

- Do not heat any highly alcoholic liquids (e.g. grog, mulled wine) via the appliance or pour any inflammable liquids into the kettle to avoid explosion and fire. To avoid overheating, before operation, always fill a sufficient amount of clear drinking water into the tea kettle (at least 500 ml / MIN). Do not operate the appliance with the kettle empty. Always observe the maximum filling level (1200 ml / MAX). If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may splash out. The filling level could drop significantly, when operating the kettle for a long time on high temperature.

- Do not use any abrasive cleaners, cleaning pads (e.g. metal scouring pads), or any corrosive chemicals (e.g. bleach) for cleaning. Do not place any part of the appliance in an automatic dishwasher!

- Depending on the usage and hardness of your water, you need to de-scale the kettle regularly. A large amount of scale will lead to energy loss and could cause damage to the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

The appliance is heated electrically. Place the appliance near a suitable wall power outlet to connect the appliance directly to a separately connected and protected mains power supply with protective conductor (earth/ground) connected properly. Ensure that the ratings of your mains power supply correspond to the requirements of the appliance (220-240V AC, 50-60Hz, rated for 16A).

• The installation of a residual current operated circuit breaker (r.c.c.b.) with a maximum rated residual operating current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is strongly recommended. If in doubt, contact your electrician for further information.
• In various foreign countries, the specifications for power supplies are subject to incompatible norms. Therefore, it is possible that power supplies in foreign countries do not meet the requirements for safe operation of the appliance. Thus, before operating the appliance abroad, ensure that safe operation is possible.
• Do not use any desk top multi socket outlet, external timer, remote control systems or extension cord. The power outlet must always be easily accessible so that it would be possible to unplug the appliance immediately in case of any malfunction or danger.
• The pins of the power plug and the power connectors in the power base and bottom of the kettle must be smooth and clean without discolourations. Keep the power connectors (kettle, base, and power cord) always completely dry. Do not poke in the power connectors. Do not attempt to operate the appliance with the power connectors damaged or polluted in any way to avoid risk of overheating, fire and electric shock.
• Always handle power cords with care. Do not place the appliance on a power cord. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained or squeezed. Do not let the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter. The power cord may never touch hot surfaces, sharp edges, or any moving parts. Ensure that no one will pull the appliance by the power cord. Take care not to entangle in the power cord. Always grasp the plug to disconnect the power cord.

Do not touch the appliance or power plug with wet hands, while the appliance is connected to the power supply.

• Always unwind the power cord completely for operation to avoid hazard of overheating, fire and electric shock.
• Do not place or immerse the power base, kettle or power cord in water or any other liquid. DO NOT spill or drip any liquids on the power base or the power cord or on the exterior of the kettle to avoid risk of fire and electric shock. If liquids run out or are spilled onto the exterior of the power base or kettle, immediately unplug the appliance. Always wipe off spilled liquids immediately. If in doubt, check the kettle for leakage, before operating the appliance again. When parts of the appliance are leaking during operation and/or liquids accumulate under the power base or run down on the exterior of the appliance or any part of it, immediately unplug the appliance. Refer to the instructions in chapter 'Solving Problems'.
• Do not place the power base or kettle in an automatic dishwasher.
• Do not place the power base on a metal surface, or in a large bowl or tray for operation. If water is spilled or runs out and accumulates, there would be severe risk of short-cut, electric shock, and fire.
• A cordless water kettle should NOT be filled, while standing on its power base. Always remove the kettle from the power base for filling and pouring. For filling, always remove the lid.

HIGH TEMPERATURE - RISK OF BURNS

⚠ WARNING: The Glass Tea Kettle is equipped with electric heating elements for heating up drinking water. Thus, the appliance could cause severe scalds, burns and damage, when used improperly.

• Always hold the kettle level when it is filled, to avoid spilling. The appliance and the contents will be hot even for some time after operation. Always leave the appliance cool down to room temperature, before cleaning or storing the appliance.
• Even with the lid closed properly, hot steam and splashes of hot water could escape during operation. Do not hold your face or other parts

of your body over or directly near the appliance during operation and while the appliance is still hot to avoid scalds due to steam and splashes.

• Even the exterior of the appliance could get very hot during operation and thereafter. Only touch the appliance and its parts and accessories at the operating elements and the handles, when they could be hot. Beware of hot steam and condensate, when opening the lid and/or emptying the kettle. Before pouring, wait until the water has stopped boiling and then pour carefully to avoid spilling. If the kettle is tilted too much, the water could run out besides the spout and getting spilled.
• Keep the lid closed during operation and when the water is boiling or still very hot, to avoid scalding caused by hot steam.

PROPERTIES OF YOUR NEW GLASS TEA KETTLE

The Design Tea Aroma Plus glass tea kettle is intended for heating drinking water to a selectable temperature in the range from 60° C to the boiling temperature ( 100° C). Via a keep warm function, the selected temperature can be maintained for approx. 30 minutes (see: 'Keep Warm Function').

• A groove in the lid ring enables closing the lid correctly even with the tea filter inserted.
• During operation, various acoustic signals are given. A series of LEDs indicates the course of the programmed operation.
• Temperature values and time settings are programmed in 8 various tea programs and an additional program for boiling water ("100°C / Hot Water").
• Any operation may be cancelled at any time via holding the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds.
• During operation, only the "Start/Stop" button is available (see below: 'Programmed Sequences and Acoustic Signals'). Any other operating elements are idle. If you wish to make new entries, you need to cancel operation of any running program and start anew.
• Via the glass kettle you can easily monitor the steeping process of your tea and check for the colour at a glance without opening the lid.

PROGRAMMED SEQUENCES AND ACOUSTIC SIGNALS

When selecting the desired program, you can use 4 buttons for a quick selection of frequently used applications. 5 additional programs are available via the selection dial "Easy Select". Each program is operated according to pre-programmed values for the water temperature and steeping times. In standby mode, only the button of the currently selected program is illuminated.

• When connected to the power supply, the appliance enters standby mode with the tea program "75°C / Green Tea", and the appropriate button is illuminated.
• When starting a tea program via the "Start/Stop"-button, the heating elements start heating. As soon as the set temperature is reached, an acoustic signal sounds and the appliance switches automatically to the waiting function (see: 'Waiting Function'). At this point in time, you should apply the tea leaves and press the "Start/Stop"-button again for starting the steeping time.

- At the beginning of the steeping time, all runtime LEDs are illuminated. While the steeping time is running, the runtime LEDs will go out one by one. This enables controlling the progress at a glance.

- At the end of steeping, another acoustic signal sounds and the appliance switches to the keep warm function automatically (see: 'Keep Warm Function').

- 40 seconds after the steeping time elapsed, the end-of-steeping signal is repeated as a reminder and/or for assisting you, if you decided that your tea needs some more steeping.

If you wish to use the appliance for heating water only, you may set the program providing the desired temperature. The appropriate temperature values are given on the control panel of the power base. The first acoustic signal indicates always the moment, the desired temperature is reached. Without any further action, this temperature will be maintained within the pre-programmed waiting time (10 minutes; see: 'Waiting Function').

However, the boiling program ("100°C / Hot Water") is somewhat different. There is no steeping time provided for this program and, giving the appropriate acoustic signal, the appliance will switch to the keep warm function as soon as the water is boiling (see: 'Keep Warm Function').

WAITING FUNCTION

With a tea program running, the appliance switches to the waiting function as soon as the pre-programmed temperature is reached and the appropriate signal is given. The selected program button flashes and the waiting time starts running. Use this time for placing your tea leaves (tea filter or tea bag) into the kettle. For stopping the waiting function and starting the steeping time, you need to press the flashing program button. Otherwise, after waiting 2 minutes, the acoustic signal for “temperature is reached” will be repeated as a reminder.

Important: If you neglect to press the flashing button of the selected program, the running program is cancelled after the maximum waiting time elapsed (10 minutes), and the appliance returns to standby mode automatically. If the appliance is idle for another 5 minutes, the appliance shuts off completely and all buttons get dark for saving energy. You may reactivate the appliance at any time by simply pressing any button.

KEEP WARM FUNCTION

After steeping (tea programs) or heating the water to the boil ("100°C / Hot Water"), the appliance switches to the keep warm function. The runtime LEDs illuminate and go out one by one during the keep warm time (30 minutes at the maximum). After the maximum keep warm time elapsed, the appliance switches back to standby mode and the heating elements of the kettle shut off automatically.

Note

If you remove the kettle from the power base, before reaching the pre-programmed temperature or during the steeping time, the appliance cancels the running program at once and returns to standby mode.

Note

The maximum water temperature of the keep warm function is limited to 90-95°C, because water will vaporize quickly, when kept at boiling temperature, causing, the filling level fall easily below the minimum amount of 500ml. Additionally, keeping the water boiling would rise the energy consumption excessively.

While the keep warm function is running, you may remove the kettle from the power base, without terminating this function. As a reminder, after approx. 20 seconds a signal sounds. If you replace the kettle, the "Start/Stop" button flashes.

• To re-assume heating via the keep warm function, press the flashing "Start/Stop" button shortly. Otherwise, the heating elements do not operate and your water/tea is cooling down, although the keep warm time is running on.
• If you do not wish to keep the tea/water warm any longer or the filling level dropped below the MIN filling level (500ml) after pouring, hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds. The appliance will return to standby mode at once.

Note

You should not leave the keep warm function running, if you do not need this function any longer. Instead, hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed, until the signal sounds to switch off the appliance. Then unplug the appliance. This will avoid useless energy loss.

The appliance offers 8 tea programs with pre-programmed values for temperature and steeping time (see the following table). Additionally, a separate program for boiling water is provided.

ENERGY SAVING MODE

When in standby mode and without any entries for more than 5 minutes, the appliance will shut-off completely, to avoid useless power consumption. In this case, all buttons go out. However, you should not leave the appliance operate or even being connected to the power supply uselessly. To avoid excessive energy loss, you may cancel any operating cycle at any time you like by holding the "Start/Stop" button pressed until a signal sounds.

To recover from energy saving mode and return to standby mode, simply press any button.

DRY BOIL PROTECTION

The water kettle is fitted with an overheat protection / dry boil protection device, which safeguards against overheating of the heating elements. Overheating may be occur, when ...

• too much scale is on the heating elements. De-scale the kettle in time (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
• too little water is in the kettle. Always observe the MIN filling level (500 ml) Please keep in mind, that water may vaporize, when left for a long time in the kettle on high temperature. Observe the filling level during operation and after pouring.

If overheating occurs, the kettle will automatically switch off the heating elements. In this case, remove the kettle from the base and pour out the water. Then leave the kettle cool down by waiting at least 30 minutes with the lid left open. Thereafter, you may reactivate the appliance.

BEFORE FIRST USE

⚠ WARNING: DO NOT let young children play with the appliance or any part of it or the packaging! The kettle is made of glass and fragile. Always use special care when handling glass parts. Even small splinters and shards could cause severe injuries, when getting into your food or beverages. Thus, do not use glass parts again, when there are any cracks or edges are chipped. Do not pour cold water into the hot kettle. Always let the kettle cool down, before filling it again. For operation, always completely unwind the power cord to avoid hazard due to overheating, fire, and electric shock. Always unplug the appliance before cleaning it, and when it is not in use. Do not place the kettle or power base in an automatic dishwasher. Do not place or immerse the appliance (power base and kettle) or power cord in water or other liquids or spill any liquids on the power base, power cord, or the exterior of the kettle. For filling, remove the kettle from the power base. Do not use any abrasive or corrosive cleaners for cleaning to avoid damage to the surfaces.

1. Unpack the appliance carefully. Check that no parts are damaged or missing (see: 'Knowing Your New Glass Tea Kettle'). Carefully remove all packaging, shipping materials, stickers, and promotional materials. However, DO NOT remove the model label at the bottom of the power base.
2. Before first use and after a longer period of storage, clean all parts of the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). Rinse the interior of the kettle thoroughly with clear tap water. Completely unwind the power cord and insert the power cord

into the cord groove at the bottom of the power base. Select a suitable place for operating the appliance near a sufficient wall power outlet. Leave a distance of at least 20 cm to the edge of the table or counter and to any other object (see: 'General Safety Instructions'). Connect the power plug directly to the power outlet.

1. Fill the kettle with 1.2 litres (1200 ml / MAX) of clear tap water and press the "100°C / Hot Water" button (see: 'Operation / Heating Clear Water'). Wait until the water is boiling vigorously. Thereafter discard the water and wait until the kettle cooled down.
2. Repeat the previous step.
3. Then rinse the kettle with clear tap water. The appliance is now ready for use.

OPERATION

⚠ WARNING: Always ensure that the appliance and all its parts and accessories are out of reach of young children. The kettle could break or crack when handled carelessly. Even small splinters and shards could cause severe injuries when getting into your food and beverages. Thus, always handle glass parts with special care to avoid injuries and damage. Do not use any glass parts any longer, when these parts are broken, cracked, or chipped in any way.

Hot water and steam could case severe scalds. Always ensure not to spill hot water. Always ensure that the kettle will not fall or fall over, while it is containing hot water. During operation and some time thereafter, only touch the kettle and lid by the handles, as the exterior of the kettle and the lid may be hot. Even with the lid closed, hot steam could escape from under the lid. Do not hold any part of your body or any delicate objects over or directly near the appliance, while the appliance is hot. Beware of hot steam and condensate, when removing the lid and/or pouring out the water.

The kettle is heated via electrically powered heating elements. Do not attempt to heat the kettle by any other source of heat. Within the kettle only clear drinking water and tea may be heated. Do not fill any other beverages, food, or any foreign liquids into the kettle.

Unplug the appliance and leave it cool down completely, before cleaning the appliance, and when the appliance is not in use. Do not leave the base unattended, when it is connected to the power supply.

If water runs out during operation, immediately unplug the appliance (see: 'Solving Problems').

Ensure to place the appliance on a level, flat, stable, and dry surface. Do not place

the appliance near the edge of the working space or on inclined surfaces. Do not operate the appliance in a tray or tub or on a metal surface to avoid high risk of electric shock, when overflow or splashing of hot water occurs. To avoid overheating, before operation, always fill a sufficient amount of clear drinking water into the kettle (at least 500 ml / MIN). Do not operate the appliance with the kettle empty. Always remove the kettle from the base and wait until the kettle cooled down, before filling the kettle anew. For adding water with a tea program running, slowly pour the cold water into the middle of the kettle. Do not let cold water run down the side walls of the kettle, if the kettle is hot.

Do not fill in more than the maximum amount (1200 ml MAX). If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may splash out. Regularly de-scale the kettle (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).

Important: For operation, always close the kettle via the lid ring and lid. With the lid open, the temperature control will not operate correctly caused by high energy loss.

Important: When using the keep warm function and pouring some water/tea, always ensure that the filling level in the kettle did not drop below the MIN filling level (500 ml), before placing the kettle back onto the power base and re-assuming keep warm operation (see: 'Keep Warm Function').

PREPARING THE APPLIANCE FOR OPERATION

1. Completely unwind the power cord and place the power base on the designated working place near an appropriate wall power outlet (see: ‘General Safety Instructions’ and ‘Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances’).
2. Remove the kettle from the power base and remove the lid from the kettle by turning it counter-clockwise and pulling it upwards.
3. Fill the required amount of clear drinking water into the kettle. For operation, the filling level must be between MIN (500ml) and MAX (1200ml).
4. Ensure to close the kettle correctly via the lid set (see: ‘Knowing Your New Glass Tea Kettle’): Push the lid ring down on the kettle until it settles firmly. There may be no gap between lid ring and kettle. If required, turn the lid ring, until it fits correctly. Insert the lid in the lid ring with the white line pointing to “Open”. Turn the lid clockwise within the lid ring to “Close” for locking the lid securely.

Important: Always keep the kettle level, as soon as it is filled. When filling the kettle, ensure not to spill water on the exterior of the kettle. If required, wipe dry the exterior of the kettle, before placing the kettle onto the power base.

1. Ensure that the exterior of the kettle is clean and dry. Then place the kettle onto the power base and connect the appliance to the power supply. A beep sounds and the first tea program ("75°C / Green Tea") is selected with the appropriate short-cut button illuminated. The appliance is now ready for operation (standby mode).

MAKING TEA

You can make tea directly within the kettle. For this, you may use tea bags or the tea filter provided with the appliance.

Note

After recently preparing another type of tea within the kettle, you should clean the kettle thoroughly, to avoid interference of different tea aromas. This holds especially when preparing very aromatic types of tea intermediately (e.g. mint or fruit).

Any operating cycle can be cancelled at any time via holding the "Start/Stop" button pressed until a signal sounds. The appliance will switch back to standby mode immediately and the button of the recently used program will be illuminated. If the appliance is idle for more than 5 minutes, the kettle will shut off completely and all buttons will get dark. Press any button, if you wish to switch on the appliance.

We recommend to hold a coaster or small dish at hand for placing the tea bag or tea filter on it after steeping. To reduce energy consumption, do not leave the appliance in keep warm mode uselessly. The maximum temperature of the keep warm function is limited to 90 - 95°C. With the water kept boiling during keep warm, too much steam would be produced, making the filling level in the kettle drop to a critical level too fast.

1. Prepare the appliance for operation (see above: 'Preparing the Appliance for Operation').

2. Select the desired tea program by pressing the appropriate button (see: 'Usage of the Programs'). For selecting the uncommon tea programs via the selection dial "Easy Select", turn the selection dial until the desired tea program is facing to the mark on the panel: Japanese green tea ("Sencha"), "White Tea", "Jasmin Tea", herbs and fruits ("Infusion"), or "Darjeeling". The selection button will be illuminated as soon as you turn the selection dial. If the desired type of tea is already set at the selection dial, simply press the selection button to select this setting.

3. Press the "Start/Stop" button to start the program. The "Start/Stop" button illuminates red and the appliance starts heating. As soon as the pre-programmed temperature is reached, a signal sounds and the button of the selected tea program flashes. You may use the heating time for filling the tea filter with your tea leaves or get the tea bags at hand.

Note

Adapt the amount of tea leaves to your liking. We recommend to start with 5 to 7 g tea leaves (approx. 2 heaped teaspoons) for each 500 ml of water.

⚠ WARNING: When operating the appliance at high water temperature, hot steam and condensate may escape from under the lid. This holds especially when removing the lid. Additionally, the lid may be hot. Only touch the lid by the handle and be aware of hot steam and condensate, when removing the lid.

1. Wait until the signal sounds. Remove the lid from the lid ring. Tea bags may be inserted into the kettle without the provided tea filter. In this case, clamp the thread via the lid. When using the tea filter, immerse the prepared tea filter into the kettle by hanging the tea filter into the lid ring. If required, turn the tea filter on the lid ring until it settles down in the appropriate groove of the lid ring. Replace the lid.
2. Press the flashing button of the active tea program. The runtime LEDs illuminate and go out one by one, while the steeping time is running.

Important: If you do not press the button, the signal will be repeated after 20 seconds as a reminder. The appliance will keep the programmed temperature for approx. 10 minutes in total. Thereafter, the appliance will shut off with an acoustic signal, to avoid useless energy consumption.

1. As soon as the steeping time elapsed (all runtime LEDs are dark), an acoustic signal sounds again and the appliance switches to the keep warm function automatically. The runtime LEDs illuminate again and go out one after the other during the keep warm time (maximum 30 minutes). If the tea is still too light and weak, you may decide to leave the tea filter or tea bags within the kettle for some additional time. To take this into account, a second signal sounds after 40 seconds.

2. Remove the lid by the handle and take out the tea filter or tea bag. After taking out the tea filter, you should replace the lid. Do not forget to lock the lid securely within the lid ring by turning it clockwise.

Important: Ensure that the lid ring is installed firmly on the kettle and the lid is locked securely. Otherwise, the lid set could fall down during pouring.

Note

You may remove the kettle from the power base after steeping to pour some tea. The keep warm function keeps running (see: 'Keep Warm Function'). However, the heating elements will be switched off, when the kettle is removed. After replacing the kettle, the "Start/Stop" button flashes. Shortly press the "Start/Stop" button to re-assume keep warm operation. Otherwise, the tea will cool down.

Important: If you wish to keep the reminder of tea still warm after pouring, always ensure that a sufficient filling level is still left within the kettle (at least 500 ml).

1. If you wish to switch off the appliance after preparing your tea, hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds. The appliance returns to standby mode immediately.
2. When removing the kettle from the power base after steeping to pour some tea, you may re-assume keep warm operation. For this, ensure that at least 500ml tea are still left in the kettle. Re-place the kettle on the power base and SHORTLY press the "Start/Stop" button. After the maximum keep warm time (30 minutes) elapsed, the appliance switches back to standby mode automatically and a signal sounds.

Note

For saving energy, please avoid leaving the keep warm function running uselessly.

Skipping Over Some Steeping Time

You may shorten the steeping time and switch to the keep warm function manually, while the steeping process is still running. To do this, during steeping, hold the flashing button of the selected tea program pressed until a signal sounds (approx. 2 seconds). The appliance switches to the keep warm function immediately.

HEATING CLEAR WATER

Note

After preparing tea within the kettle, you should clean the kettle thoroughly, before heating water for any other purpose. This way, you avoid carrying over tea aromas (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). This holds especially after preparing very aromatic types of tea intermediately.

Heating Water to a Selected Temperature

You may use the tea programs without the tea filter or a tea bag for simply heating water to the set temperature and keeping it warm for up to 30 minutes. For this, operate the appliance according to the instructions given above (see: 'Making Tea'), but without the tea filter.

If you wish to keep the water warm at the set temperature for more than 10 minutes (see: 'Waiting Function'), you may skip over the steeping time and switch to the keep warm function manually (see: 'Keep Warm Function').

1. For starting the keep warm function when the set temperature is reached, wait until the first acoustic signal (the steeping time may be started) has been given.
2. Then, for switching the appliance to the keep warm function immediately, hold the flashing button pressed until the signals sounded.

Heating Water to the Boil

The program "100°C / Hot water" is somewhat different to the tea programs. With this program running, after the set temperature is reached and the water is boiling vigorously, the appliance switches to the keep warm function immediately. To avoid excessive energy loss and a fast dropping of the filling level in the kettle due to excessive amounts of steam escaping, the temperature of the keep warm function is limited to 90 - 95°C. The keep warm function keeps the water hot for up to 30 minutes.

Important: The keep warm function runs on even if the kettle has been removed from the base intermediately. However, to keep the water hot, you must press the flashing "Start/Stop" button shortly after replacing the kettle. Otherwise, the water will cool down. Prepare the appliance for operation (see above: 'Preparing the Appliance for Operation').

Important: Do not operate the kettle with the lid open. Otherwise, the temperature control and automatic shut-off will not work properly. Additionally, there will be high energy loss. It is crucial, that the lid set is installed firmly on the kettle to prevent the lid set from falling down during pouring.

1. Press the "100°C / Hot Water" button to select the "Hot water" program.
2. Shortly press the "Start/Stop" button to start the boiling cycle. The kettle starts heating immediately.

With the water at boiling temperature (100°C), an acoustic signal sounds and the appliance switches to the keep warm function automatically.

⚠ WARNING: Boiling water, hot condensate, and hot steam may cause severe scalds and damage. Before pouring, always wait until the water stops boiling. Pour carefully and slowly to avoid splashing and spilling. Beware of hot steam. Avoid removing the lid set for pouring.

1. Remove the kettle from the power base and, if required, wait a moment, until the water stops boiling. Carefully pour the water. With the lid set installed correctly, the lid set will not fall during pouring. Ensure not to spill the hot water.

2. If you wish to keep the water hot, first ensure that there are at least 500 ml (MIN filling level) of water left in the kettle. Replace the kettle on the power base and SHORTLY press the "Start/Stop" button. The keep warm function will keep the water hot.

Note

Do not leave the water within the kettle uselessly to avoid excessive build-up of lime within the kettle.

ADDING WATER DURING OPERATION

If the filling level within the kettle drops below the MIN filling level (500ml) during operation, you need to pour some water into the kettle, if you wish to operate the kettle. With the keep warm function running, the water within the kettle will be reheated to the selected temperature automatically.

⚠️ CAUTION: Do not let cold water run down at the side walls of the kettle, when the kettle is hot. When adding water during operation, always pour the water slowly into the middle of the kettle. Otherwise, the glass could crack! Please observe the maximum filling level (1200 ml).

1. Remove the lid from the lid ring.
2. Pour the required amount of water slowly into the middle of the kettle, without letting the cold water run down at the side walls of the kettle.
3. Lock the lid in the lid ring. The kettle will heat the water up to the set temperature and carry on executing the running program as normal.

SOLVING PROBLEMS

If any problems occur during operation, you will find the solution in the following table.

Problem Reason The	Solution
There is still a gap between lid ring and kettle.	There is a guiding groove in the lid ring that must be positioned above the handle of the kettle.	Turn the lid ring. The dark plastic part of the lid ring must be centred over the handle of the kettle. Then push the lid ring down slightly and without violence.
The lid wobbles within the lid ring and could fall during pouring.	There is a locking mechanism in the lid and lid ring for locking the lid.	Turn the lid within the lid ring, until the line on the lid faces the “Open” mark on the lid ring. Then turn the lid clockwise to „Closed“ to lock the lid within the lid ring.
The kettle is placed on the power base and the appliance is plugged in, but the display is dark.	If the appliance is idle for more than 5 minutes, the appliance will switch OFF completely to save energy.	Press any button or remove the kettle from the power base shortly to re-activate the display.
No response to your entries.	A program is still running. With a program running, entries are blocked.	Cancel any running program (hold the “Start/Stop” button pressed until the signal sounds). Then try again.
	The temperature of the selected program is set below or equal to the current temperature within the kettle.	Leave the kettle cool down or select a higher temperature. Alternatively, you may carefully and slowly pour some cold water in the middle of the kettle (see: ‘Adding Water during Operation’).
	The appliance is not live. Check, if the power plug is connected to a suitable power outlet (see: ‘Technical Specifications’). Check, if the power outlet is live by connecting a lamp.
	The overheat protection system has been triggered.	Unplug the appliance, empty the kettle, and leave the kettle cool down for at least 30 minutes (see: ‘Dry Boil Protection’). Thereafter, fill the kettle with at least 0.5 litres (500 ml) of cold water and try again.
	Malfunction has occurred. Unplug the appliance and leave the appliance cool down to room temperature. Then try again.
The selected program is terminated immediately after starting it.	The temperature of the selected program is set below or equal to the current temperature within the kettle.	Leave the kettle cool down or select a higher temperature. Alternatively, you may carefully and slowly pour some cold water in the middle of the kettle (see: ‘Adding Water during Operation’).
You cannot start the desired program.	The kettle is not placed on the power base correctly.	Fill the kettle with at least 0.5 litres of water and place the kettle on the power base. If required, turn the kettle on the power base. Then try again.
	The set temperature is lower than or equal to the current water temperature within the kettle.	The set temperature must be higher than the current temperature within the kettle to start a program. Wait until the kettle cooled down sufficiently, select a somewhat higher temperature, or carefully pour some cold water into the centre of the kettle (see: ‘Adding Water during Operation’).
Water accumulates under the power base or runs down on the exterior of the kettle.	There is too much water in the kettle.	Immediately unplug the appliance. Then wipe dry the appliance completely. Leave the appliance dry naturally for at least 1 day. Always observe the maximum filling level when filling (see: ‘Technical Specifications’).
	You spilled some water during filling or moving the kettle.	Immediately unplug the appliance. Then wipe dry the appliance completely. Leave the appliance dry naturally for at least 1 day. Ensure not to spill water on the exterior of the kettle during filling. Always ensure to hold the kettle level when it is filled.
	The kettle is leaking. Immediately unplug the appliance and wipe dry the appliance completely. Then check the kettle for leakage. Do not use the appliance, if the kettle is leaking.
The water has an unpleasant taste.	This may happen on new appliances or appliances that are used only rarely.	Prepare the appliance for usage as described in chapter ‘Before First Use’. If the problem persists, fill the kettle with 1200 ml of water and add two teaspoons of soda. Bring the water to the boil using the program “100°C / Hot Water”. Then discard the water and clean the kettle thoroughly.
	You left the water in the kettle for too long.	Always discard residues of water or tea completely after usage and at least rinse the kettle with clear tap water, before standing the kettle aside. However, after preparing tea, it is better to clean the kettle after usage (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).
	When cooking tea within the kettle, the interior of the kettle may get coated with residues of tea, causing a bitter taste, when simply heating water.	At least, when using the appliance for cooking tea and, thereafter, heating clear water, thoroughly clean the kettle and lid set (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).
The program “100°C / Hot Water” is used but the water is not boiling.	For the keep warm function, the maximum temperature is limited to 90-95°C.	According to the pre-set course of this program, the water is heated to the boil only shortly. Thereafter, the water temperature will drop a little. This is normal. No action required.
The kettle does not shut off automatically when the water is boiling.	The lid and/or lid ring is missing or not inserted correctly.	Due to high energy loss via evaporation of water, the temperature control will not work correctly, if the kettle is not closed correctly. For operation, always cover the kettle by the appropriate lid set (see: ‘Preparing the Appliance for Operation’).
	Excessive amounts of lime influence the temperature control.	De-calcify the kettle (see: ‘De-Scaling the Kettle’).
	You are using the appliance at high altitude.	At high altitude (e.g. on high mountains), the ambient pressure is reduced, leading to a somewhat lower boiling temperature. Thus, the temperature for automatic shut off (100°C) cannot be reached. Switch off the kettle manually (hold the “Start/Stop” button pressed until the signal sounds).
The power base and/or base of the kettle get unexpectedly hot during operation.	The power cord has been wound partly around the cable storage during operation.	Always unwind the power cord completely before operation to avoid overheating. Check the power cord for any damage (e.g. discolouration, deformation).
	The power socket in the centre of the power base or the pins at the bottom of the kettle are polluted, damp, damaged or corroded.	Immediately unplug the appliance. Check the power connection at the bottom of the kettle and the power socket of the power base for moisture, discolouration, distortion or corrosion. Do not use the appliance again, if the pins are not smooth, dry, and clean. There is no use in trying to clean or repair the pins of the power connector. Contact an authorised service centre for replacement or repair.
	The power cord or the connectors of the power base and kettle are damaged.	Do not attempt to use the appliance, when the power cord or connectors are damaged in any way. Contact an authorised service centre for replacement or repair.
A series of short signals sound with the “Start/Stop” button flashing.	With a program running, you turned the selection dial „Easy Select“ to another tea program or temperature.	New entries are not possible, while a program is running. Turn the selection dial back to the previous setting. Alternatively, cancel the running program (holding the “Start/Stop” button pressed for at least 2 seconds) and start the appliance anew with your new selection.

CARE AND CLEANING

⚠ WARNING: Always ensure that all parts of the appliance are out of reach of young children. Always switch OFF (hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds), unplug, and leave the appliance cool down, before cleaning the appliance.

Do not spill or pour any liquids on or in the power base or power cord. Do not place or immerse the power base, kettle or power cord in any liquids to avoid damage, risk of fire, and electric shock. Especially keep the power socket at the power base and the power connector in the bottom of the kettle always completely dry and clean. Do not attempt to clean the power socket or the interior of the power connector at the bottom of the kettle, to avoid damage.

Glass can easily break or crack. Always use special care while handling the kettle. Do not expose the kettle to extreme temperature variations.

Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids (e.g. bleach, solving agents, insufficient descaler) for cleaning the appliance or any part of it, to avoid damage to the surfaces and seals. Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects for cleaning (e.g. scoring pads, knives, scrapers). Do not use violence.

DO NOT clean any part of the appliance in an automatic dishwasher!

Depending on the water hardness and the usage, the interior of the kettle gets coated with grey or sand-coloured scale or brown residues of tea. To keep the appliance always ready for use, and to avoid damage to the heating elements, you should remove these residues and de-scale the kettle in time (see: 'De-Scaling the Kettle'). However, do not use any de-scaling solution not recommended in this booklet, to avoid damage to the heating plate, temperature sensor, and seals of the kettle.

Depending on the usage, you should clean the kettle always immediately after use, to avoid the build-up of stubborn residues that could cause an unpleasant odour after repeated usage of the kettle.

CLEANING THE POWER BASE AND KETTLE

1. Always remove the kettle from the power base, unplug the power base, and leave the appliance cool down to room temperature, before cleaning the appliance.
2. If required, clean the interior of the kettle using a soft nylon brush or soft sponge and lukewarm dishwater. Then, rinse the interior of the kettle thoroughly with tap water. De-scale the kettle, if stubborn residues of scale cover the heating plate (see: 'De-Scaling the Kettle').
3. Wipe the exterior of the kettle, the power base, and power cord with a slightly damp cloth, removing any residues of splashes. Always ensure to keep the

power socket completely dry. Do not spill any liquids onto the control panel.

1. Wash the tea filter, lid ring and lid in warm dishwater via a soft nylon brush. Then rinse with clear tap water.
2. Thoroughly wipe dry all parts. Thereafter, leave the parts of the appliance dry naturally for approx. 30 minutes, where they are out of reach of young children.

DE-SCALING THE KETTLE

For de-scaling you may use white vinegar. However, we recommend to use the GASTROBACK® Premium Descaler (Art.-No.: 98175). This descaler is containing special additives for preserving the seals and metal surfaces thus maintaining high performance of Gastroback appliances.

⚠ WARNING: Do not breath-in any vapours escaping from de-scaling solutions to avoid injuries to your respiratory tracts. Always ensure good ventilation during de-scaling.

1. When using the Gastroback Premium Descaler, prepare 1200 ml (1,2 litres) of the descaling solution according to the instructions on the pack. Alternatively mix 400 ml white vinegar with 800 ml of water.
2. Fill the descaling solution in the kettle. Close the kettle via the lid ring and lid (see: 'Operation / Preparing the Appliance for Operation'). Simply leave the kettle stand for at least 1 hour.
3. To assist de-scaling, if the interior of the kettle is coated with large amounts of scale: You may warm up the solution to the lowest possible temperature (program "60 °C/Sencha"). Ensure good ventilation, and keep the kettle closed via the lid set. As soon as the solution is heated and the appropriate acoustic signal is given, cancel operation (hold the "Start/Stop" button pressed until the signal sounds). Leave the solution cool down within the kettle for at least 1 hour.
4. Empty the kettle and rinse the interior of the kettle and lid set with clear tap water.
5. Repeat the steps 1 to 4, if there is still any scale left.
6. Then fill the kettle to the "MAX" filling level (1200 ml) with clear tap water and bring the water to the boil (program "100°C / Hot water"). Thereafter, discard the water, wait until the kettle cooled down, then rinse the kettle and lid set again.
7. If there are any odours of descaler left, repeat step 6.

STORAGE

⚠ WARNING: Young children must be supervised that they do not play with the appliance or any part of it. When the appliance is not in use, always unplug the appliance and empty the kettle. Always leave the kettle cool down, before storing the appliance. Do not leave the power base connected to the power supply, when it is not in use.

Do not hold the power base by the power cord for moving the appliance to avoid damage. Remove the kettle from the power base for moving the appliance to prevent the kettle from falling down. Always handle the kettle with special care to avoid damage to the glass body. The power cord may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained or squeezed. Do not let the plug or power cord hang down.

Do not place any hard or heavy objects on or in the appliance or any part of it. Do not use any parts or accessories of the appliance for any other appliance or any other purpose than described in this booklet.

Please store the appliance on a frost free, clean and dry place where it is protected against excessive load (e.g. mechanical or electric shock, heat, direct sunlight) and out of reach of young children.

1. Clean the appliance before storing (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
2. For storage, you may wind the power cord around the cord storage at the bottom of the power base.
3. Place the power base on a clean, stable, and level surface, where the appliance cannot fall. To protect the power connector of the power base from dust and damage, you should place the kettle onto the power base and close the kettle via the lid set.

NOTES FOR DISPOSAL

Dispose of the appliance and packaging must be effected in accordance with the corresponding local regulations and requirements for electrical appliances and packaging. Please contact your local disposal company.

Do not dispose of electrical appliances as unsorted municipal waste, use separate collection facilities. Contact your local government for information regarding the collection systems available. If electrical appliances are disposed of in landfills, dumps, or refuse incineration, hazardous substances can leak into the groundwater or can be emitted into air, thus getting into the food chain, and damaging your health and well-being as well as poisoning flora and fauna. When replacing old appliances with new once, the vendor is legally obligated to take back your old appliance for disposal at least for free of charge.

WARRANTY

We guarantee that all our products are free of defects at the time of purchase. Any demonstrable manufacturing or material defects will be to the exclusion of any further claim and within 2 years after purchasing the appliance free of charge repaired or substituted. There is no Warranty claim of the purchaser if the damage or defect of the appliance is caused by inappropriate treatment, over loading or installation mistakes. The Warranty claim expires if there is any technical interference of a third party without a written agreement. The purchaser has to present the sales slip in assertion-of-claim and has to bear all charges of costs and risk of the transport.

Restricted use of this appliance for commercial, trade or industrial purposes in offices, guest houses, cafés and baker's shops, and similar facilities is possible. In this case the warranty period is reduced to 1 year.

Please agree that we cannot bear the charge of receipt. Submission of appliances: Please ensure packing the appliance ready for shipment without accessories. Add the sales slip and a short fault description. The processing time after receipt of the defective appliance will be approx. 2 weeks; we will inform you automatically. After the warranty period, please send defective appliances to the given address. You will get a free quotation and, thereafter, can decide, whether we shall repair the appliance to the costs possibly accrued, send back the defective appliance for free of charge, or dispose of the appliance for free of charge.

HOUSEHOLD USE

The appliance is intended for household use only and NOT suited for commercial, industrial or trade usage. Do not attempt to use this appliance in any other way or for any other purpose than the intended use, described in these instructions. Any other use is regarded as unintended use or misuse, and can cause severe injuries or damage. There is no warranty claim of the purchaser if any injuries or damages are caused by unintended use.
