PROPERTIES OF YOUR NEW VACUUM SEALER
The DESIGN VACUUM SEALER ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL PLUS applies low pressure (vacuum) to bags made of specialized plastic or suited containers equipped with an appropriate valve operated manually or automatically. You may purchase ready-to-use bags or make bags on your own from sufficient foils.
The appliance offers various functions that can be selected via the assigned function buttons (see: 'Using the Buttons').
IMPORTANT - Common plastic bags for storing food (e.g. freezer bags, fat-proof bags) are NOT suited for vacuum sealing. Only use the appropriate foils and bags. Any containers used for vacuumizing must be pressure-proof and air-tight. An appropriate valve must fit to the vacuum hose (optional) of the appliance. In any case, do not use any unsuited materials with the appliance.
NOTE
You may cancel any running process at any time. When simply touching the stop button, the appliance terminates the process immediately and ventilates the vacuum chamber. The professional vacuum pump achieves 20 litres per minute generating low pressure of approx. 0,9 bar.
- The robust stainless steel housing can be cleaned easily.
- Vacuumizing (evacuating) and sealing are performed completely automatically. Set appropriate time values freely within the complete range provided.
- Appropriately adapted pump performance is available for dry and moist food.
- Via the pulse function manual control of the pump is possible for vacuumizing sensitive types of food.
- A special function for evacuating containers generates a pre-selected vacuum in dedicated vacuum containers.
- Bags and foils may be sealed up to the width of 31 cm (ca. 12.5 inch).
- The appliance creates doubled seals automatically, ensuring safe and air-tight sealing of bags.
- The buttons are touch sensors, enabling an absolutely smooth surface of the control panel, without any gaps and slits. There is no need to press down the buttons, simply touch them.
DISPLAY AREAS AND TIME SETTING
Sealing time and vacuum time are shown in two separated display areas. Via the arrow buttons at the right side of each display area, you can adjust the time values
within the complete possible range (see: 'Using the Buttons'). This can be done individually for each vacuum sealing cycle. During operation, the set values are counted down to zero and recalled after finishing the task.
• The sealing time can be set to 0 or from 5 to 10 seconds in steps of 1 second.
- Set the vacuum time to 0 or from 5 to 80 seconds in steps of 5 seconds.
NOTE
You may set the sealing time and/or vacuum time to "00". In these cases the vacuum sealer uses automatically set values (see: 'Automatic Function').
AUTOMATIC FUNCTION
When the sealing time and/or vacuum time is set to "00", the appliance uses predefined default values for these processes.
Note: This function is only available for sealing bags.
• Sealing time: 5 seconds.
• Evacuation: the pressure within the bag is reduced somewhat.
USING THE BUTTONS
IMPORTANT - The buttons of the appliance are touch sensors. There is no use in pressing down the buttons, but simply touch the assigned area with your finger. If there is no respond, rub a moist cloth between your fingers. Then try again.
The following operating elements are provided:
| Button Icon Usage | ||
| Arrow buttons | ![]() | Touch these buttons for elongating (▲) or shortening (▼) the time for sealing or evacuation. |
| Seal only | ![]() | For sealing bags and foils air-tight without evacuation. Therefore only the sealing time must be adjusted. When pressing this button during evacuation, the bag will be sealed at once, no matter whether the set pressure is reached or not.Use this function for making your own bags of individual size or for sealing bags airtight but under normal pressure.NOTE: The best sealing time depends on the foil material used. Optimize the setting via this function, before vacuum sealing bags. |
| Pulse | ![]() | Use this function for being in full manual control of the evacuating process. When evacuating a bag, a considerable pressure will be applied to the objects within. Sensitive objects may be crushed and smashed. Additionally, food with high content of moisture could get undesirably dry, because the liquid may evaporate and be sucked out. In these cases, you should control the vacuum pump manually via this function, decreasing the pressure within the bag step by step. This way, delicate objects will not be smashed and liquids not be sucked out. |
| Container | ![]() | Use this function for evacuating containers. The appliance generates a pre-set low pressure within the vacuum container. As soon as this pressure is reached, the vacuum pump stops automatically. The container is sealed via the pressure valve in the lid. You need the appropriate vacuum hose for using this function (see: 'Knowing Your New Vacuum Sealer / Accessories Additionally Available'). Ensure to connect the vacuum hose tightly to the vacuum port of the appliance and to the pressure valve of the container.NOTE:To prevent germs from getting into your food, it is good advice to sterilize the vacuum container and container lid before filling in food. |
| Dry Food | ![]() | Press one of these buttons to start the vacuum sealing cycle for your bag. The bags will be evacuated first and then sealed using the vacuum time and sealing time, currently shown on the display areas. Select the appropriate type of food or object, you wish to vacuum seal:DRY food or solid objects (e.g. dried legumes, dried fruit). Using this function, the vacuum pump is operated on full power.MOIST food containing a lot of liquid (e.g. fish or meat, fresh vegetables and fruit) or powder. The vacuum pump will be operated on reduced power. |
| Moist Food | ![]() | |
| Stop | ![]() | This button combines 3 functions:After connecting the appliance to the power supply, use this button to switch on the appliance. You may cancel any sealing or evacuating process at any time you wish by pressing this button shortly. The appliance immediately stops operation and ventilates the vacuum chamber and/or container. For switching off the appliance, hold the button pressed for approx. 3 seconds.NOTE:If you wish to terminate evacuation but seal the bag with the low pressure already achieved, press the seal only button . If you wish to terminate the evacuation of a container at the already achieved pressure, with manually operated pressure valve at the container lid simply close the pressure valve. |
OVERHEAT PROTECTION
A self-resetting overheat protection device switches off the appliance automatically when it gets overheated, saving your vacuum sealer from damage. With the overheat protection triggered, the appliance cannot be operated again. The overheat protection may be activated, when evacuating and sealing may items directly one after the other in short time or when operating the appliance at an environmental temperature above 35irc C ( 95irc F).
Prefer to make a short break of approx. 20 seconds after each sealing cycle. Following this advice is quite simple, when using this time for preparing the next bag.
When the overheat protection has been triggered, unplug the appliance and wait for approx. 20 minutes, leaving the lid open. Thereafter, you can re-assume operation as normal.
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR VACUUM SEALING
VACUUM SEALING AND FOOD SAFETY
IMPORTANT - Vacuum sealing is NO substitute for refrigeration or freezing. Any perishable food that requires refrigeration must still be refrigerated or frozen after vacuum packaging. As with any other storage method, food must be checked carefully before storage and, as well, before consumption.
WARNING – Before placing evacuated containers in the freezer, check whether your containers are suited for freezing (e.g. check for appropriate icons), because some types of plastics get brittle under freezing temperature conditions. Especially when taking the container out of the freezer, these containers could burst causing risk of injuries and damage according to splinters and splashes being hurled about. Vacuum packaging extends the shelf life of food by removing most of the air from sealed bags and containers, and additionally preventing air and germs from getting into the sealed packaging again. Additionally, vacuum packaging helps inhibiting the growth of a lot of microorganisms.
Mould Mould cannot grow in a low oxygen environment; therefore vacuum packaging can stop its growth. However, mould produces spores that will nevertheless be viable, thus causing new infestation with mould, when oxygen gets into the bag or container. Mould produces very harmful and toxic substances!
Yeast Results in fermentation, which can be identified by the typical smell and taste. Yeast needs water, sugar and a moderate temperature to grow. It can survive with or without air. Slowing the growth of yeast requires refrigeration, while freezing stops it completely. Most types of yeast and their decomposition products are atoxic.
Bacteria In most cases, infestation with bacteria results in an unpleasant odour, discolouration and/or soft or slimy texture. However, in an appropriate environment, clostridium botulinum (a highly toxic organism that causes botulism) can grow without air and cannot be detected by smell or taste. Although it is extremely rare, it is very dangerous!
However, please keep in mind that mould and some types of bacteria (e.g. the highly toxic botulism causing bacterium) can grow even without air. Some produce spores still viable after evacuation.
- In general, bags may be re-used, but do not re-use bags that had been filled with any fatty and/or highly perishable types of food (e.g. meat, sausages, cheese, fish, or seafood). To prevent germs from entering your food, before filling, you should rinse containers or re-used bags with hot water (at least up to 80°C). Check
first, whether the container or bag will tolerate the desired high temperature.
- Some types of food contain aromas and colours that infuse plastics and cause persistent odours and discolouration (e.g. red cabbage, capsicum, onion, garlic, some types of cheese or sausages). Before re-utilisation of bags and containers, you should check whether any odours of the recently stored food persist within the bags or containers.
- To preserve foods safely, it is important to maintain low temperatures. You can significantly reduce the growth of microorganisms at temperatures of 4°C or below. Freezing at -17°C does not kill microorganisms, but stops them from growing. For long-term storage, always freeze perishable foods that have been vacuum packaged.
- Food packed in bags may be placed in the freezer without hesitation. However, the foil material may get damaged by handling the items within the freezer. When using vacuum containers, please keep in mind that some types of plastics will get brittle under low temperature, thus bursting when under low pressure.
GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING FOOD
- Always check your food for perfect condition, before sealing and again before consumption.
- Vegetables need to be blanched to stop the enzyme reaction causing loss in quality. Finally, dab dry the vegetables via a kitchen towel before vacuum packaging.
- Some vegetables (broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips) naturally emit gases during storage. Therefore, even after blanching, they must be stored in the refrigerator or freezer and are not suited for vacuum packaging.
- Vacuum containers are perfectly suited for marinating food in a short time, because the micro-holes of the food are opened under low pressure, allowing pickle infusion very quickly. Using the container function, run cycles of evacuating and ventilating the container. Allow for 10-20 minutes per cycle.
GETTING THE BEST SEAL
- For sealing bags or vacuum containers with powders inside, you may place a suited piece of kitchen towel onto the powder. This may stop the powder from being swirled up during evacuating.
-
The upper rim of the bags must be completely clean and dry for getting a good seal. If you find it difficulty to keep the rim clean during filling, simply fold the rim back outwards during filling.
-
Do not overfill the bag. When sealing flat objects, always leave at least 5 cm (2 inches) of free space on top of the bag material to enable evacuation and sealing. With large objects, it is better to leave at least 8 cm (2.5 inches) of free space above the objects. When using vacuum containers, leave at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of free space above the food.
- When vacuum sealing sharp-edged objects (e.g. bones, spaghetti), protect the bag from punctures. For this you may wrap the objects in paper towel. Alternatively use a vacuum container.
- Pre-freeze delicate food that will be stored in the freezer after vacuum sealing. This way the food will not be mashed during evacuation and liquids (e.g. juices) will not be sucked out so easily. Food containing a lot of liquid (e.g. steak sauces, fresh vegetables) may be freezed for an hour. This may stop the liquid from getting sucked into the vacuum pump.
- For vacuum sealing large objects, stretch the bag gently flat, while pushing it into the vacuum chamber. Additionally, always ensure that the sealing area of the foil is completely dry and clean. Wrinkles, liquids, and particles within the sealing area prevent airtight sealing.
- You may achieve even sealing results, when leaving the appliance cool down for approx. 20 seconds with the lid open after each sealing cycle.
- After various sealing cycles have been started in short time, decreasing the sealing time to 3 seconds is adequate for most types of foil.
- If in doubt, whether your bag is completely airtight, simply make a second seal.
- Do not vacuumize hot food! Due to the high temperature, large amounts of liquid may evaporate under low pressure, thus being sucked into the vacuum pump. This could damage the appliance. Additionally, the consistency of your food may the influence unpleasantly. Always leave your food cool down before vacuum sealing or simply seal the bags via the seal only function.
- Delicate objects may be sealed via the pulse function. Let the vacuum pump agitate until the bag nestles tightly against the food. Alternatively, use a vacuum container.
- To ensure best results, only use foils, bags, and vacuum containers recommended by the manufacturer.
BEFORE FIRST USE
WARNING – DO NOT let young children play with the appliance, or any part of it, or the packaging!
- Unpack the appliance and all accessories carefully and check that no parts are damaged or missing (see: 'Knowing Your New Vacuum Sealer').
- Carefully remove all shipping materials and promotional materials, but DO NOT remove the warning labels or model label. Especially ensure that there are no foreign objects (e.g. packaging) under the lid of the appliance.
- Before first use and after a longer period of storage, clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
CAUTION – Do not attempt to open the lid with violence!
OPERATION
WARNING – Risk of Suffocation! DO NOT let young children play with the packaging material (foils and bags) and/or evacuated containers and bottles. Always ensure that the appliance and all its parts, accessories, and consumables are out of reach of young children!
Risk of Implosion! Evacuated containers must always be handled with special care.
Risk of Explosion and Fire! DO NOT evacuate containers or bags containing any inflammable substances (e.g. spirits, organic solvents)! Under low pressure, large amounts of inflammable liquids vaporize and build an inflammable atmosphere causing risk of injuries by explosion and fire.
For sealing foils and bags, an electrically powered heating bar is used that will get hot during operation. Avoid touching the heating bar shortly after operation. Do not place any foreign objects on the heating bar. During operation do not place any clothes, napkins, or other foreign objects on or under the appliance.
IMPORTANT - The vacuum sealer is intended for evacuating and sealing the designated foils, bags and vacuum containers. Insufficient or damaged containers may burst (implode) when evacuated, leading to a high risk of injuries and damage due to splinters and splashes being hurled about. Before operation, always check the vacuum containers for any type of damage (e.g. cracks, distortions, or other defects). Insufficient foils and bags may damage the appliance and cause overheating and fire. Do not overfill the bags or vacuum containers to avoid damage to the appliance. Only use the power cord recommended by the manufacturer for connecting the appliance to the mains power supply.
Before starting a vacuum sealing function, ensure that the vacuum chamber and drip tray are completely empty. Always ensure that the vacuum pump will not suck in any liquids. If liquids are sucked in, immediately cancel the evacuation by pressing the STOP button to avoid risk of electric shock, overheating, and damage.
The appliance is equipped with an overheat protection device that will switch off the appliance automatically, when overheating occurs. In this case, unplug and wait 20 minutes with the lid left open, before attempting to re-activate the appliance again (see: 'Properties of Your New Vacuum Sealer / Overheat Protection'). However, you should not operate the appliance in continuous use. After each sealing cycle, make a break of approx. 20 seconds, before starting the next sealing cycle.
CAUTION – Do not attempt to open the lid with violence. During operation, the appliance locks the lid to the base automatically. Before opening the lid, always ensure that any previously started function is finished.
NOTE
You may cancel any running process at any time by pressing the STOP button. However, regularly the appliance stops operation automatically as soon as the selected function is complete.
Various useful tips for vacuumizing are given in chapter 'Important Tips for Vacuumizing'. When any problem occurs during operation, you will find help in chapter 'Solving Problems'.
CAUTION – Before starting a vacuum sealing session, always ensure that the drip tray in the vacuum chamber is completely empty to avoid that any liquids or powders will be sucked into the vacuum pump and damage the vacuum pump. Do not operate the appliance without the drip tray.
- Open the lid and take the drip tray out of the vacuum chamber. Remove any residues of liquids or powders in the drip tray. If required, wash the drip tray in warm dishwater. Then dry the drip tray thoroughly (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
- Replace the drip tray into the vacuum chamber.
SEALING FOILS
Using the seal only button, you can seal foils without using the vacuum function. The seal only function is useful for testing out the correct sealing time suitable for the
brand of foil material, you are using. Additionally, via this function you can make your own bags of individual size. For making your own bags, proceed according to the following instructions. Operate the appliance in an equivalent manner to seal an already prepared bag under normal pressure.
IMPORTANT - The sealing time is a crucial parameter for getting an airtight sealing. For your first attempts, or when using foils of another manufacturer, you should make some tests first. The sealing must be smooth, even and tear-proof all over without melted areas at the rim of the sealing area. Adapt the sealing time accordingly.
NOTE
To get an airtight sealing, the foil must be clean, dry, and without wrinkles in the sealing area.
NOTE
If you wish to seal very large items, you should leave up to 8 cm (3 inches) of free space at one end of the foil. This way, it may be easier to get all wrinkles out of the top of the bag, when placing the bag onto the heating bar.
- From the bag material (foil tube) measure out a sufficient length to hold the items to be packed, with additional 5 cm (2 inches) of free space on top and at the bottom. Using a sharp knife or a pair of scissors, cut the desired bag length. It is crucial to cut in a straight line.
- Place the appliance onto a suitable surface and insert the small plug of the power cord into the power socket of the appliance first, then insert the power plug into a suitable wall power outlet.
- Open the lid and push the rim of the bag onto the heating bar. Ensure to spread out the foil smooth on the heating bar and without any folds and gaps. Close the lid.
- Touch the stop button to switch on the appliance. The display areas illuminate, showing the default sealing time and vacuum time.
- Touch the arrow buttons for setting the desired sealing time shown on the left display area. There is no need for setting the vacuum time, because this setting will be ignored.
- With the desired sealing time on the display, touch the seal only button . The appliance closes the lid firmly and starts the sealing process. The remaining sealing time is shown in a count-down.
- Wait for some seconds, after the sealing time elapsed. When the recently set sealing time is displayed again, the appliance releases the lid automatically.
IMPORTANT - Immediately after sealing, the heating bar will be hot. Avoid touching the heating bar with your skin or any heat-sensitive object. Before starting operation again, you should leave the appliance cool down for some seconds. Do not leave the appliance connected to the power supply when it is not in use.
- Open the lid and remove the prepared bag. Ensure that the seal is even and airtight, before filling the bag.
- After making a break of approx. 20 seconds, you may seal another foil or filled bag, starting with step 5.
- If you do not wish to use the appliance once more, hold your finger for approx. 3 seconds on the stop button for switching off the appliance. Then unplug the appliance from the mains power supply. Do not leave the appliance connected to the power supply, when it is not in use.
SELECTING THE TYPE OF FOOD
You are selecting the type of food to be vacuum sealed by starting the procedure via the appropriate function (see below: 'Vacuum Sealing a Bag').
- Use the dry food button for food or any other solid objects almost without liquid or powder.
- Select the moist food button for moist or juicy food and for powders. The moist food function operates the vacuum pump with reduced power. This will adapt the evacuating process to the consistency of your food, avoiding that liquids and powders are sucked out of the bag or container so easily.
NOTE
Adjust the vacuum time accordingly, before starting these functions.
VACUUM SEALING A BAG
Using the dry food function or moist food function, your bags will be evacuated before sealing. While reducing the pressure, the foil of the bag will get close-fitted to the items inside the bag.
IMPORTANT - Ensure to keep the top rim of the bag clean and dry. Particles and moisture at the area of the seal prevent getting an airtight sealing. If required, you should determine the optimum sealing time via the seal only function (see: 'Sealing Foils').
- Choose a bag of sufficient size (see also: 'Sealing Foils'). At least 5-8 cm (2-3 inches) of free space must be left between the contents and the top of the bag.
Check that the bag is airtight, before filling it. While inserting the items to be sealed into the bag, ensure that the top of the bag will be left dry and clean.
- Place the appliance onto a suitable surface and first connect the small plug of the power cord to the power socket of the appliance, then connect the power plug to an appropriate wall power outlet.
- Open the lid. Before starting a vacuum sealing session, ensure that the vacuum chamber and drip tray are completely empty (see: 'Emptying the Drip Tray').
- Ensuring that the foil of the bag is spread out smooth and without folds and gaps, push the upper rim of the bag onto the heating bar and vacuum gasket. It is crucial that the rim of the bag is positioned completely in the drip tray.
- Close the lid. The bag should be clamped between lid and base of the appliance.
- Touch the stop button for switching on the appliance. The defaults of the sealing time and vacuum time are shown on the display areas.
- If required, adjust the sealing time (left display area) and/or the vacuum time (right display area). For this, touch the arrow buttons □ or □ at the right side of the appropriate display area.
- For bags filled with dry food or solid items, touch the dry food button .
- For bags filled with moist food or powder, touch the moist food button. When using this function, liquids and powders will not be sucked out of the bag so easily.
When a function is selected, the vacuum pump starts operation, sucking the air out of the bag. The vacuum time is counted down to zero. Immediately thereafter, the bag is sealed and the sealing time is counted down.
IMPORTANT - While the vacuum pump is working, you may stop evacuation and start sealing at any time by touching the seal only button. Use this feature to protect the contents of the bag, if it is going to get mashed by low pressure. When any liquid or powder starts getting sucked into the vacuum pump, immediately press the stop button, for terminating the entire process. The bag will not be sealed. In most cases it is useless, attempting to seal the bag, when liquid or powder has been sucked into the area of the seal, because liquids and powder within the sealing area would prevent any airtight sealing.
IMPORTANT - After the sealing process is finished, the heating bar may be hot. Avoid touching the heating bar with your skin or any heat-sensitive object. Leave the appliance cool down for approx. 20 seconds after each sealing process.
- Wait until the recently used sealing time and vacuum time are shown on the dis-
play areas again and the hissing noise of the air flowing back into the vacuum chamber is heard. Then open the lid and remove the sealed bag.
- If required, before sealing another bag, check the trip dray for any residues that had been sucked in (see: 'Emptying the Drip Tray'). If you wish to vacuum seal another bag, wait some seconds, before starting again with step 3.
- If you do not wish to use the appliance once more, hold your finger on the stop button for approx. 3 seconds. Then unplug the appliance from the mains power supply.
- After usage, clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
IMPORTANT - Do not leave the appliance connected to the power supply when it is not in use.
Via the pulse button – the low pressure within the bag can be controlled manually. This may help to protect delicate objects within the bag from being crushed and liquids and powders from being sucked out of the bag.
While inserting the items to be sealed into the bag, ensure that the sealing area of the bag will be left dry and clean.
- Place the appliance onto a suitable surface and first connect the small plug of the power cord to the power socket of the appliance, then connect the power plug to an appropriate wall power outlet.
- Open the lid. Before starting any vacuum sealing session, ensure that the vacuum chamber and drip tray are completely empty (see: 'Emptying the Drip Tray').
-
Touch the stop button for switching on the appliance. The defaults of the sealing time and vacuum time are shown on the display areas.
-
If required, adjust the sealing time (left display area). For this, touch the arrow buttons at the right side of the left display area. The vacuum time will be ignored.
NOTE
There is no need to set vacuum time, because you are going to control the vacuum pump manually. The vacuum pump will be working, as long as you hold your finger on the pulse button. When releasing the pulse button, the evacuating process stops at once without ventilating the vacuum chamber. You may operate the vacuum pump continuously, until the desired low pressure is reached or operate the vacuum pump in short pulses.
- Hold the pulse button pressed, for operating the vacuum pump. Release the pulse button to stop operation. If required, repeat this procedure several times. As long as the pulse button is pressed, the vacuum pump operates, sucking the air out of the bag.
IMPORTANT - When any liquid or powder starts getting sucked in, immediately release the pulse button. Then press the stop button, for terminating the entire process.
NOTE
The appliance stops pumping and seals the bag automatically, when the maximum low pressure is reached.
- With the desired low pressure reached, release the pulse button and touch the seal only button. The sealing process starts and the selected sealing time is counted down. When the sealing time reaches zero, the appliance ventilates the vacuum chamber with a hissing noise and releases the lid automatically.
- Open the lid and remove the sealed bag. If you wish to vacuum seal another bag, wait some seconds, before starting again with step 3.
- If you do not wish to use the appliance once more, hold your finger on the stop button for approx. 3 seconds for switching off the appliance. Then unplug the appliance from the mains power supply.
- After usage, clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
IMPORTANT - Do not leave the appliance connected to the power supply when it is not in use.
EVACUATING A CONTAINER
Using the appliance, you may evacuate vacuum containers, designated for this purpose: boxes and bottles with suitable lids and tops.
WARNING – Only use the designated vacuum containers for vacuum packaging. Unsulted containers could implode during evacuation or thereafter, with splinters and splashes being hurled about. Always check the container and container lid for proper condition before evacuation. There may be no cracks, distortions or worn out seals. No parts of plastic containers may be brittle or friable. Handle evacuated containers with special care to avoid damage and injuries due to implosion. Do not heat any evacuated and/or containers closed airtight. Always ventilate the container, before opening the lid.
NOTE
Always remove the container lid completely, before heating food within the vacuum container. Before heating, ensure that the container is sufficiently heat-resistant. Do not heat vacuum containers directly on the range or in the oven. It is best to use a bain-marie (pot with hot water). Microwave-resistant containers may be heated in a microwave oven with the lid open.
NOTE
The designated vacuum hose may not fit to the lid of vacuum containers being sold on the market but not recommended by the manufacturer. Before operation, check whether your container is suited for usage with the appliance.
NOTE
To prevent germs from getting into your food, it is good advice to sterilize the container and lid before filling in food. For this, you may rinse the container using hot water (at least 80irc C). However, ensure that the container will tolerate the high temperature. After sterilization, do not wipe the container but leave it dry naturally on a clean surface. When wiping with a cloth, germs could get onto the surfaces of the container again.
-
Ensure that the container and container lid are undamaged, airtight and completely clean and dry.
-
Fill your food into the container, leaving at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of free space between your food and the rim of the container. Ensure keeping the rim of the container and container lid clean and dry. Close the container with the container lid.
- Place the appliance onto a suitable surface. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum port of the appliance. Connect the small plug of the power cord to the power socket at the side of the appliance. Insert the power plug into a suitable wall power outlet. Close the lid of the appliance.
- Open the lid of the appliance and check that the drip tray is completely empty (see: 'Emptying the Drip Tray'). Close the lid of the appliance.
- Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum port of the container lid. Press the vacuum hose down firmly to ensure a tight fit. With a manually adjustable pressure valve at the container lid, ensure that the valve is in the open position. Otherwise, the container cannot be evacuated.
- Shortly touch the stop button to switch on the appliance. The display areas illuminate, showing the preset sealing time and vacuum time. However, these values will be ignored, when using the container function. There is no use in making any settings.
- Touch the container button for starting the evacuation. The vacuum pump starts operation and will be working until the pre-defined low pressure is reached. Thereafter, the vacuum pump stops automatically.
- With a manually operated pressure valve at the container lid, close the pressure valve. Other types of pressure valves (check valves) close automatically.
NOTE
You may cancel the process at any time by pressing the stop button. The appliance will stop operation at once and ventilate the vacuum port. However, containers equipped with a check valve will keep the pressure already reached. If you wish to stop evacuation at the pressure already reached when using containers with a manually operated pressure valve, simply shut the pressure valve at the lid of the container. The appliance stops operation automatically.
WARNING – After operation, the interior of the container is under low pressure (vacuum). Even little damages of the container or improper treatment may cause implosion of evacuated containers. Always handle any evacuated containers with special care to avoid injuries and damage due to splinters and splashes being hurled about. Do not expose evacuated containers to heat, mechanical or thermal shocks, or direct sunlight.
- Carefully remove the vacuum hose from the container.
- If you wish to evacuate another container, wait approx. 20 seconds before operating the appliance again. Then repeat the procedure beginning with step 5. Always store evacuated containers where they are protected from mechanical or thermal shock and direct sunlight.
- Do not leave the appliance connected to the power supply when it is not in use. Switch off the appliance by holding the stop button pressed for approx. 3 seconds. Then unplug the power cord from the mains power supply. Remove the vacuum hose from the appliance.
- After operation, clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
SOLVING PROBLEMS
If any problems occur during operation, you will find solutions in this section.
| Problem Possible Reasons The Easy Solution | ||
| Bags are not sealed; the vacuum pump does not work. | The appliance is not live. Ensure that the power cable is undamaged and plugged in correctly at the power socket of the appliance and at a suited mains power supply (see: ‘Technical Specifications’). By connecting a lamp, ensure that the mains power outlet is live. | |
| The power cord is damaged. | Replace the power cord. Get in contact with your vendor.Do not attempt to repair the power cord! | |
| The overheat protection is active. | Unplug the appliance and leave the appliance cool down with the lid open for approx. 20 minutes. Then try again. | |
| You cannot close the lid correctly. | The drip tray is not inserted correctly. | The drip tray must slide completely into the vacuum chamber and may not stick out. Turn the drip tray by 180° and try again. Ensure that the vacuum chamber is completely clean. There may be no objects or pollutions within the vacuum chamber. |
| Some items within the bag get clamped between the lid and base of the appliance. | Do not overfill the bags. When vacuum sealing large items, leave some more free space at the top of the bag. If required, remove some parts from the bag. | |
Problem Possible Reasons The Easy Solution
| The vacuum pump is working but the bag is not evacuated OR the air flows back into the bag OR the bag is not sealed. | The bag is not positioned correctly. | The upper rim of the bag must reach into the drip tray completely. Additionally, ensure that the foil of the bag lays even and smooth without any folds or gaps on the heating bar and vacuum gasket. |
| You are using the wrong foil material. | Bags for vacuum sealing are made of a specialized foil type with a somewhat uneven surface at the inner side. Any other type of foil cannot be evacuated, though it may be suitable for foil sealing appliances. | |
| The sealing time is too short or too long. | Adapt the sealing time to the used foil material (see: 'Sealing Foils'). | |
| The appliance is too hot. The foil is melted. | Switch off the appliance (pressing the stop button for 3 seconds). Leave the appliance cool down for approx. 20 minutes with the lid open. Reduce the sealing time after performing various sealing cycles (see: 'Sealing Foils'). | |
| The lid is not closed correctly. | For sealing and vacuum sealing bags, the lid of the appliance must be closed completely. Ensure that there is no obstacle blocking the lid (e.g. the content of the bag). If required, remove some items from the bag. Do not overfill the bags. | |
| Particles and/or liquid are in the area of the sealing. | For getting an air-tight seal, the top of the bag must be absolutely clean and dry. Cut off the upper rim and wipe the top of the bag clean and dry. Then try again. If required, remove some items from the bag for getting some more free space for the seal. Additionally, this may help avoiding that liquids and powders are sucked out. Very moist food may be placed into the freezer (approx. for 1 hour). Place a folded piece of kitchen towel onto the food for sucking off liquids. Start the appliance via the moist food button or use the pulse function. | |
| The bag is not airtight. Use another bag. You may try to reseal the bottom of the bag. | ||
| Parts of the contents in the bag perforate the bag during evacuation. | Remove sharp-edged items (e.g. bones) from the bag or turn the edges inwards. Wrap sharp-edged items in kitchen towel. Use an new bag. It may be better to use a vacuum container. | |
Problem Possible Reasons The Easy Solution
| You attempt to seal liquids or very moist or hot food. Too much evaporated liquid prevents the reduction of pressure. | Always leave hot food cool down to room temperature before vacuum sealing. Cut off the upper rim and wipe the top of the bag clean and dry, before trying again. It may help to remove some food from the bag, thus leaving some more free space on top of the bag. This way, liquids and powders will not be sucked out so easily. Very moist food may be placed into the freezer (approx. for 1 hour), before vacuum sealing. Place a folded piece of kitchen towel onto the food for sucking off liquids. Start the appliance via the moist food button or use the pulse function. | |
| The vacuum gaskets on the lid and base of the appliance are polluted, worn out, or damaged. | Carefully clean the vacuum gaskets via a soft damp cloth. For this, carefully dab the vacuum gaskets. Do not rub! Ensure that the vacuum gaskets are placed correctly around the vacuum chamber. If the problem persists, send the appliance to an authorized Service centre for examination and repair. | |
| The bag or foil melts or is ripped at the seal. | You have used improper foils or bags. | Only use foils and bags suitable for vacuum sealers and/or foil sealing appliances. |
| The sealing time is too long. | Reduce the sealing time. | |
| The heating bar is too hot during the sealing process. | After each sealing process, wait approx. 20 seconds with the lid open, before starting the next sealing cycle. | |
| The appliance may be overheated. | Switch off (pressing the stop button) and unplug the appliance and leave the appliance cool down for approx. 20 minutes. | |
| The container is not evacuated. | The vacuum hose is not connected properly. | Ensure that the correct end of the vacuum hose is pushed properly onto the vacuum port of the appliance. Ensure that the connection of the vacuum hose to the vacuum port of the container lid is airtight. |
| The vacuum hose is blocked or damaged. | You may try to clear the vacuum hose by blowing out the obstacle. If this is not successful, contact your vendor for replacement. | |
| The seals of the vacuum container are not airtight. | Ensure that the lid seal of the container and the rim of the container and container lid are completely clean and dry, before vacuum sealing. Ensure that the sealing area is not brittle or worn. If required, replace the seal. Use another container. | |
| Problem Possible Reasons The Easy Solution | ||
| The vacuum container is damaged. | Ensure that the vacuum container is completely undamaged and without any friable areas, cracks, scratches and deformation. If in doubt, use another container.Do not use vacuum containers any more for vacuum sealing, when they are torn, melted, brittle, or damaged in any other way! | |
| After some time of storage, the container or bag is filled with gas again. | The food sealed is not suited for vacuum packaging. | Some types of food produce gases during storage. These types of food are not suited for vacuum sealing (see: 'Important Tips for Vacuum Sealing'). |
| The food has gone bad. | Perishable food produces gases when going bad.In any case, discard the food! | |
| The sealing area of the container or bag has not been absolutely clean and dry. | Before vacuum sealing, ensure that the sealing areas of the vacuum container or bag are undamaged and completely clean and dry. When the food is still in perfect condition, you should consume it in time. Some types of dry food may be vacuum sealed again. | |
| The vacuum container or bag is damaged. | When the food is still in perfect condition, you should consume it in time. Some types of dry food may be vacuum sealed again. Replace the sealing gasket of the vacuum container, when it is brittle, scratched, broken or worn. Ensure that the bag or vacuum container is completely undamaged. There may be no perforations, cracks, or deformations. If in doubt, use another bag or vacuum container. Handle vacuumized bags with care to avoid perforating the foil. This holds especially, when freezing the bag. Protect vacuum containers and bags from excessive mechanical or thermal stress and direct sunlight. Do not place any heavy or sharp-edged objects on the bags or vacuum containers, even when they are not vacuumized. | |
