Frequently Asked Questions - Quadra 700 APPLE

How do I upgrade the RAM on the Quadra 700?
The Quadra 700 has 4 SIMM slots. Use 30-pin SIMMs, 80 ns or faster. Maximum RAM is 68 MB. Install in pairs for best performance. Access is via bottom panel.
What operating system does the Quadra 700 support?
Standardly ships with System 7.0.1. It can run up to Mac OS 7.6.1. Later versions may require additional software or hardware.
How do I clean the Quadra 700?
Power off and disconnect all cables. Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water or mild soap. Avoid getting moisture inside. Use compressed air for the keyboard and vents.
Can I use a modern monitor with the Quadra 700?
Yes, with a VGA adapter. The Quadra 700 outputs standard VGA signals on a DB-15 connector. You may need a Mac-to-VGA adapter and a monitor that accepts VGA.
Why does my Quadra 700 not power on?
Check the power cord and wall outlet. Ensure the internal power supply switch (if present) is set correctly. Listen for fan or chime. If no response, the power supply may need replacement.
How do I reset the PRAM on the Quadra 700?
Hold Command + Option + P + R immediately after the startup chime. Hold until you hear a second chime. This resets parameter RAM and often resolves boot issues.
What type of hard drive does the Quadra 700 use?
It uses a standard 3.5-inch SCSI hard drive. Original capacities were 80 MB or 160 MB. Replacements with newer SCSI drives or a SCSI2SD adapter are possible.
How do I connect the Quadra 700 to a network?
Use the built-in Ethernet port with an AAUI transceiver for 10BASE-T connections. Alternatively, use a LocalTalk adapter via the serial ports.
Where can I find spare parts like the keyboard or mouse?
Spare parts are available from vintage Apple resellers, eBay, or specialty forums. Original Apple Desktop Bus peripherals are compatible.
What is the maximum resolution supported by the Quadra 700?
The built-in video supports up to 1152 x 870 pixels at 8-bit color, or lower resolutions at 24-bit. For higher resolutions or multiple monitors, install a NuBus video card.

The Symptom Charts included in this chapter will help you diagnose specific symptoms related to your product. Because cures are listed on the charts in the order of most likely solution, try the first cure first. Verify whether or not the product continues to exhibit the symptom. If the symptom persists, try the next cure. (Note: If you have replaced a module, reinstall the original module before you proceed to the next cure.)

If you are not sure what the problem is, or if the Symptom Charts do not resolve the problem, refer to the Flowchart for the product family.
