Frequently Asked Questions - FR148AP SMEG

What is the correct temperature setting for the refrigerator?
The ideal temperature for the refrigerator compartment is between 2°C and 4°C. The freezer compartment should be set to -18°C. Adjust using the internal dial.
How do I clean the interior of my Smeg FR148AP?
Unplug the appliance and remove all food. Clean the interior with a soft cloth and a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
Why is my refrigerator making unusual noise?
Some noise is normal. Clicking sounds occur when the compressor starts/stops. A gurgling noise is from refrigerant flow. If the noise is loud, check for level installation or contact service.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes, the door is reversible. Follow the instructions in the manual to change the hinge side. Typically, you'l need a screwdriver and a helper.
How often should I defrost the freezer?
Defrost the freezer when frost builds up to about 5 mm thick. This ensures efficient operation. For manual defrost, unplug the fridge, remove food, and let the frost melt.
What should I do if the refrigerator stops cooling?
Check if the appliance is plugged in and the thermostat is set correctly. Ensure the condenser coils are clean and the door seals are intact. If still not cooling, contact Smeg service.
How do I save energy with my Smeg fridge?
Place the fridge in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat sources. Keep the doors closed as much as possible. Avoid overfilling. Defrost regularly and clean the condenser coils yearly.
Are spare parts available for this model?
Yes, Smeg provides spare parts. Contact Smeg authorized service centers or check their website for genuine parts like shelves, drawers, and door gaskets.
What is the recommended clearance around the refrigerator?
Leave at least 5 cm (2 inches) of space at the back and sides for proper ventilation. The top should have at least 10 cm clearance.
Can I store hot food in the refrigerator?
No, allow hot food to cool to room temperature before placing it in the fridge. Hot food raises internal temperature and strains the compressor, leading to higher energy consumption.
