How do I set up the phone for the first time?

Connect the base station to power and phone line. Insert the AAA NiMH batteries into the handset. Place handset on base to charge for at least 12 hours before first use.

How can I send an SMS?

Press the SMS menu key. Select 'Write new message'. Enter text using the keypad, then press Send. Enter the recipient's number and confirm.

Can I receive SMS on this phone?

Yes, the phone supports SMS reception. Incoming messages are stored in the Inbox folder, accessible from the SMS menu.

How to store a contact in the phonebook?

1 Safety notices

Please read these operating instructions carefully. If you have any questions, get in touch with our Service Dept. by calling our Service Hotline at 0180 5 00 13 88.

Under no circumstances should you open the device or attempt to repair the device yourself. Please contact your dealer in case of any warranty claims.

Intended use

This telephone is designed for use connected to an analogue telephone line (PSTN) in Germany. However, due to differences in the services provided by the various telecommunications providers, we cannot guarantee that the telephone will work properly when connected to all telecommunications terminal lines. The telephone is prepared for connection to a TAE phone jack with F/N coding and can be used together with other equipment such as a fax, answering machine, or a modem. Plug the connecting phone cable only into the telephone plug socket provided for this purpose. Do not replace the plug of the connecting phone cable.

Power failures

Telephone calls cannot be made during power failures. Keep a cord telephone that is not equipped with an external power supply available in case of emergency.

Rechargeable batteries

Use only rechargeable batteries as supplied. The use of other rechargeable batteries or accupacks may cause a short-circuit. When changing the batteries, use only rechargeable batteries, type AAA 1.2 Volt, 550mAh.

Do not throw batteries in the fire or immerse them in water. Do not dispose of old or defective batteries with normal domestic waste.

Charging the handset

If the handset becomes warm when charging, this is quite normal and no cause for alarm. Only charge the handset on the base station. The use of other chargers may cause lasting damage.

Transformer plug

Use only the AUDIOLINE transformer plug supplied, other transformer plugs can destroy your telephone. Opening the power supply plug while it is plugged into the supply mains could lead to personal injury and death.

Private branch exchanges

The telephone can also be connected to a private branch exchange. The dealer where you purchased the private branch exchange will tell you if your telephone will work properly on your PBX. Due to the great variety of private branch exchanges, we cannot guarantee that the phone will work properly on all PBXs.

Location of the base station

The base station must be located within reach of a 230Volt supply socket. To avoid interference problems, do not place the base station in the immediate proximity of other electronic equipment such as a microwave oven or hi-fi system. The location of the base station can significantly influence the proper function of the telephone.

Place the base station on a level, non-slip surface. The feet of the base station will not normally mark the surface on which it stands. However, the wide range of surface finishes in use renders it impossible to exclude marking of any surface.

Do not use the handset in areas where there is a danger of explosion.

Avoid excessive exposure to smoke, dust, vibration, chemicals, humidity, high temperature or direct sunlight.

Note for medical products

The telephone works with very low transmitted power. Present knowledge and research indicate that, at this low power level, there is no possible danger to health. It has, however, been shown that portable telephones, when switched on, can affect medical equipment. Maintain a distance of at least one metre from medical equipment.

Disposal

If the batteries or the complete system have reached the end of their useful life, please dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner and as required by law.

Temperature and ambient conditions

The telephone is designed for indoor use and an operating temperature range of 10\ °C to 30\ °C .

The base station must not be installed in humid areas such as bath or wash rooms. Avoid proximity to sources of heat such as radiators and do not expose the unit to direct sunlight.

Cleaning and care

The outer surfaces of the unit can be cleaned with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Never use cleaning agents or aggressive solvents. Apart from occasionally cleaning the outer surfaces, no further care is required. The rubber feet of the base station are not resistant to all cleaning agents. The manufacturer cannot, therefore, be held responsible for damage to furniture etc.

CE marking

The telephone is compliant with the essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive. This is certified by the CE marking.

3 Setting up

3.1 Safety notices

WARNING! Before switching on, do not fail to read the safety notices on of the beginning of these instructions.

3.2 Checking the contents of the package

The package should contain:

one base station one supply cable
one handset with batteries one belt clip
one telephone connection cable one set of directions for use

3.3 Connecting the base station

Set up the phone within reach of a telephone socket and an electricity supply socket.

1. Insert the connector on the lead from the transformer plug in the socket on the underside of the base station and insert the transformer plug in a 230V supply socket installed in accordance with regulations. The base station transformer plug must always be connected. For safety reasons, use only the transformer plug supplied.
2. Connect the telephone cable supplied between the telephone socket and the corresponding socket on the underside of the base station. Only use the new telephone cable supplied.
3. Press the two cables into the two cable channels leading to the rear of the base station.

3.4 Exchange the batteries

The rechargeable batteries (AAA, 1.2V, 550mAh) have a stand-by time of max. 350 hours and a maximum talk time of up to 14 hours. To fit or change the batteries, open the battery compartment cover and insert the new batteries. Take care to ensure that the polarity is correct and close the battery compartment cover. Always use rechargeable batteries, type AAA 2 x 1.2V, only.

To increase performance, you can also use rechargeable batteries of the same type with up to 1300 mAh capacity. In this way, the stand-by time is increased to ca. 700 hours and the talk time to ca. 28 hours.

Important notice: Place the handset on the base station, with the display facing forwards, for at least 16 hours. If the batteries are not properly charged, the telephone may fail to function correctly. While the handset is charging, the battery capacity symbol in the display will blink. The indicator lights as soon as the handset is placed in position.

3.5 Charging the standard batteries

The standard rechargeable batteries for your telephone have a stand-by time of max. 350 hours at room temperature and a maximum talk time of up to 14 hours. If the battery capacity is too low, the symbol will flash in the display and you will hear warning tones every 10 seconds. To charge the standard batteries, place the handset in the base station with the display to the front. The current battery capacity is shown in the display in several steps.

Full Half Low

Notice: Before using the telephone for the first time, the batteries must be charged for at least 16 hours. Like your car battery, the rechargeable batteries suffer from a certain, unavoidable ageing effect. You can, however, minimise this by exercising the batteries correctly. As you use your telephone, always start with fully charged batteries and continue using it until they are "empty" as indicated by the blinking symbol in the display. Then recharge them fully. This will maintain maximum battery capacity for as long as possible. Repeated partial charging and discharging will "teach" the batteries to operate with reduced capacity.

3.6 DTMF or PULSE dialling

This forward-looking feature enables you to operate your telephone on both the older analogue lines (pulse dialling) and the newer digital lines (DTMF dialling). The equipment is factory set for TONE dialling (DTMF). If your phone fails to function on your line, consult point 9.7 to learn how to set your telephone for PULSE dialling.

3.7 Fitting the belt clip

Slide the belt clip into the grooves until it audibly clicks home.

3.8 Setting the time and date

The display shows the date and the current time. The time and date must be reset when setting up the telephone for the first time, if the standard batteries become completely discharged, after restoring the factory settings or after switching off.

4 Normal use

4.1 Taking calls

If you receive an incoming call, both the handset and the base station will emit a ring tone. Because of the time required to establish a connection, the handset rings slightly later than the base station.

Notice: While the handset is ringing you can use the 🔒 and 🔒 buttons to adjust the ring volume.

The EXT indication in the display will blink. Press the call button ⏻ or the handsfree button ⏻, on the handset to take the call. The call indicator on the base station will blink during the call.

To end the call, replace the handset on the base station or press the call button, ⏻, on the handset.

You will find information on the display of telephone numbers in chapter 6.

When automatic answering is switched on, the call will be automatically taken as soon as you lift the handset from the base station. To find out how to turn on the automatic answering function, see chapter 9.6.

4.2 Making calls

1. Use the key pad to enter the desired telephone number. Up to 25 digits may be entered. The digits pressed will be shown in the display.

Notice: If you make a mistake you can briefly press the Ⓞ/b button to delete one digit at a time. If the Ⓞ/b button is held down, the entire number will be deleted.

1. Press the call button, ⏻, on the handset to place the call.

Notice: You can also press the call button, ⓕ, first; you will then hear the dial tone. As you enter the digits of the desired number, your telephone will send them straight out. The correction of individual digits as described above is not possible in this case.

4.3 Handsfree facility

Press the button at the start of or during a call. You will now hear the dialling tone or the person you are speaking to over the loudspeaker in the handset.

By pressing the handsfree button 📋 repeatedly you can change over between normal and handsfree mode during a call.

Always end calls made using the handsfree facility by pressing the call button ⏻.

4.4 Length of call display

During a call, the duration of the call is displayed in minutes and seconds. 15 seconds after dialling, the display changes from the number called to the length of call. The length of call display persists for a few seconds after ending the call.

4.5 Turning the handset on and off

By holding down the menu key, ⏻/☐, you can turn off the handset. If the handset is turned off, there is no drain on the battery. You cannot make or take calls.

Press the menu key, ⓧ/☐, briefly to turn the unit back on. The message, BASE, will be displayed and the handset will be ready for use after a brief delay.

4.6 Range indications

The range of the handset is about 50 metres in enclosed areas and about 300 metres in the open. If a good connection to the base station is available, a ⏻ symbol will appear in the display.

If you move too far from the base station, the ⚡ symbol will blink and you will hear warning peeps. In this case you should move closer to the base station to avoid loosing the connection. These warning peeps can be turned off as described in chapter 9.9.

4.7 Muting the handset microphone

You can use the Ⓞ/ button to turn off the handset microphone during a call. You can then speak without being heard over the telephone (secret function). The speaker in the handset remains switched on so that you can still hear your caller.

1. Press the button briefly, once during a call. The word MUTE will appear in the display.
2. To turn the microphone back on, press the button briefly, once again. The word MUTE will disappear from the display and you can continue your call as usual.

4.8 Setting the speaker volume

If you find the speaker too loud or too quiet, this can be adjusted to your taste.

During a call, you can use the buttons, and , to adjust the speaker volume. The volume setting will be shown in the Display as EAR VOL (1 to 5).

4.9 Redial

The redial function is especially useful if a number is engaged or the person called does not answer. Your phone stores the last five numbers called.

1. Press the button and the last number called will appear in the display.
2. By pressing the button again, you can display the previous number called. Use the button to move through the list in the other direction.
3. Now press the call button, , to dial the number shown in the display.

Notice: If a number in the redial list matches a phonebook entry, the entry name will replace the number in the display.

4.10 Keypad lock

If you want to protect the handset from accidental use, the keypad can be locked. When the keypad lock is switched on, it will only be possible to receive calls. All buttons with the exception of the menu button will be disabled.

Activating the keypad lock

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Keypad lock in the menu using the button and confirm with the button.
3. Select On using the button and confirm with the button. When the keypad lock is on, a small key symbol will appear in the display.

Deactivating the keypad lock

1. To deactivate the keypad lock, press the button twice.

2. Select Off using the button and confirm with the MENU button. The key symbol will disappear and you will be able to use the handset once more.

4.11 Baby call

With the baby call feature, small children or even older people can easily dial a previously defined telephone number. Pressing any button on the handset (apart from the button) causes the previously stored number to be dialled using the handsfree facility.

Entering a telephone number for the baby call

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Babycall in the menu using the button and confirm with the button.
3. Select Number using the button and confirm with the MENUE button.
4. Now enter the required number for the baby call.
5. Confirm with the button and the number will be saved.

Activating baby call

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Babycall in the menu using the button and confirm with the MENUE button.
3. Select On using the button and confirm with the MENU button. When baby call is activated, the message Babycall appears in the display.

Deactivating baby call

1. To deactivate the keypad lock, press the button twice.
2. Select Off using the 🔒 button and confirm with the Ⓜ button. The Baby call message will disappear and you will be able to use the handset once more.

4.12 Temporary tone dialling

If you can only use your telephone in Pulse Dialling mode, you do not have to forego the facilities of Tone Dialling (e.g. interrogating an answering machine). Press and hold the ✠ button during a call until a signal tone sounds in order to temporarily change over to Tone Dialling. The display will show the message D. PULSE dialling will be automatically reselected after the call is finished.

4.13 Paging the handset from the base station

If you can no longer remember where you have left your handset, press the button on the base station. For thirty seconds, the handset will emit its signal tone and should then be easy to find. To stop the tone, press any button on the handset or the button on the base station.

5 The phone book

40 numbers including a name can be stored in the phone book. The maximum length for a number is 20 characters.

5.1 Entering numbers in the phone book

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Ed. Phonebook in the menu using the button and confirm with the button.
3. Confirm again with the Ⓜ button to call up Add Entry in the menu.
4. Now enter the associated name (max. 8 letters) using the number pad. For how to enter names, see later on this page.
5. Confirm the name with the MENUE button. The display will show the message Number.
6. Enter the required telephone number using the number pad. Note that, if you are using your telephone on a private exchange, it may be necessary to enter the outside line code to be saved with your number.
7. Confirm again with the button. The display will briefly show the message Stored and again the message Add Entry.
8. If you want to enter more numbers proceed as under Item 3. Exit the entry mode by holding the ⏻/按钮 pressed.

Note on the phone book: If the memory capacity of 40 numbers has been reached, the next time you try to store a number the display will show the message Memory full. In order to recreate more space, other numbers must be deleted first.

How to enter names: The number keys are also printed with letters for entering names. By repeatedly pressing the appropriate button, upper case letters as well as numbers and special characters can be entered. Which numbers and special characters are stored under each button will be shown in the display when the appropriate button is pressed.

Example: You want to enter the name "Peter".

Press: 1 x button 7, 2 x button 3, 1 x button 8, 2 x button 3, 3 x button 7

To enter a space, press the 1 button once. To enter the same letter twice, press the appropriate letter and then wait until the cursor automatically jumps to the next position.

Incorrect entries can be deleted with the Ⓞ/☐ button. To change a particular letter,

you can move the cursor to the required position using the 🔒 and 🔒 buttons in order to enter a new letter.

5.2 Dialling stored numbers from the phone book

After you have stored a few phone numbers, you can call these up very quickly and easily.

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Phonebook in the menu using the button and confirm with the button.
3. You can now select all of the stored numbers with the 🔒 and ▼ buttons. or To choose a phone number directly alphabetically, press the appropriate letter.
4. Now press the call button and the telephone number displayed will be automatically dialled.

5.3 Changing numbers stored in the phone book

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Ed. Phonebook in the menu using the button and confirm with the button.
3. Select Edit entry in the menu using the button and confirm with the button. The display will now show the stored numbers in alphabetical order.
4. Now choose the number that you want to change using the 🔒 and ▼ buttons.
5. Confirm the selection with the button. In turn, the display will show the name. In addition, the cursor will flash after the last letter.
6. Now change the name using the number pad. You will find information on how to enter names under Item 5.1.
7. After you have completed the required changes, confirm again with the button. The display will now show the number.
8. Now change the number using the number pad. The individual digits of the phone number can be deleted by repeatedly pressing the Ⓞ/按钮.
9. After you have completed the required changes, confirm again with the button. The display shows the message Edit entry.
10. Exit the programming mode by holding the ⏻/⏻ button pressed.

5.4 Deleting stored numbers from the phone book

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.

2. Select Ed. Phonebook in the menu using the button.

6 Caller display (CLIP)

Using caller display, you can see with incoming calls who is calling you. If this function is available on your telephone, the display will show you the caller's telephone number when the telephone rings. If you have stored this number in your phone book, the name will also be displayed in addition to the phone number. All calls that are not accepted will be stored in a caller list so that you will not miss any calls even in your absence. A total of 20 phone numbers can be stored in the list. When the list is full, the oldest number is always deleted from the list.

If new numbers are stored in the list during your absence, the display will show the message New calls and the number of calls received.

NOTE!

Caller display is an optional service from your telephone provider. Your telephone will show the number in the display if your telephone provider offers this service. The display of date and time is not transmitted by all telephone service providers. Please ask your telephone provider for further information. Furthermore, transmission of the phone number and also the date and time is not possible with many private exchanges.

6.1 The caller list

To view the phone numbers on the caller list, please proceed as follows:

1. Press the button and the last phone number received will be shown in the display. If the caller list is empty, the display will show the message EMPTY.

Note: If the associated name is already stored in the phone book, the name will also be displayed in addition to the phone number.

1. Further numbers can now be selected from the caller list using the button. The

button is used to page back through the list. If there are no more phone bers available, you will hear a signal tone.

1. You can return to the caller list once more by pressing the button.

2. If you want to see the date and time of the call, press the button once. If the date and the time have not been transmitted, the display will show the message Add

Entry and Delete? and you can return to the caller list by pressing the button.

1. If you want to call back a number on the caller list directly, simply press the call button ⏻ and the number will be dialled immediately.

2. Exit the caller list by holding the button pressed.

6.2 Storing telephone numbers from the Caller List in the phone book

A phone number stored in the caller list can be saved directly to the phone book.

1. Press the button and the last phone number received will be shown in the display.
2. Now select the telephone number from the caller list that you want to put into the phone book by using the and buttons.
3. Press the MENUE button. The display shows the message Add Entry. If the phone number is already stored in the phone book, this menu item will not appear again.
4. Confirm again with the MENUE button. The display shows the message Name.
5. Now enter the associated name (max. 8 letters) using the number pad.
6. Confirm again with the button and the telephone number will be stored in the phone book and you will be returned to the caller list.
7. Exit the entry mode by holding the ⏻/按钮 pressed.

Note: When the telephone number has been stored with a name in the phone book, the number will no longer appear in the caller list.

6.3 Deleting individual telephone numbers from the caller list

1. Press the button and the last phone number received will be shown in the display.
2. Now select the telephone number from the caller list that you want to delete by using the and buttons.
3. Press the button. If the phone number is already stored in the phone book, the message Delete? will appear directly. In this case, skip Item 4 and go directly to Item 5.
4. Now select the Delete? function with the button.
5. Confirm again with the button and the telephone number will be deleted from the caller list.

7 Sending and receiving SMS

The popular communication method of short messages (SMS) is now also possible with the conventional telephone network. You can send and receive text messages (SMS) using your telephone. In order for you to be able to send and receive SMS text messages, some prerequisites must be met.

General requirements

• Your telephone connection must have access to the CLIP facility (Calling Line Identification Presentation). Check with your telephone network provider that these services have been enabled on your telephone line. This service is subject to charge and you may have to apply to your telephone network provider for this (e.g. Deutsche Telekom on 0800 33 01000).
• 0190 numbers must not be blocked on your conventional telephone network.
• The SMS service is supported only on telephone lines, which are operated on the local network by Deutsche Telekom AG. The sending of SMS is not currently possible with call-by-call connections.

- The sending of SMS is subject to charge.

- If the recipient does not use the SMS service on the conventional telephone network or if his telephone is generally unable to receive text messages, the SMS will automatically be delivered as a speech message, i.e. by means of the telephone.

- The costs will be billed by Deutsche Telekom.

Important note: Due to the continuous development in the area of telecommunications, the above information may already have changed. The latest information can be obtained from the appropriate websites or service numbers.

Choosing a provider

All SMS messages are distributed by a so-called SMS centre. At present, this service is offered by "Deutsche Telekom" and "Anny Way". These SMS centres can be reached via a special telephone number, by means of which the SMS messages are sent and received.

Your AUDIOLINE telephone is set up for use with Deutsche Telekom.

SMS using Deutsche Telekom.

• The number for the Deutsche Telekom message centre is 0193010.
  When using Deutsche Telekom, a simple registration is required. To do this, send your first SMS with the text ANMELD (register) to the number 8 8 8 8.
  oSMS from the Vodafone, E-Plus or O2 networks cannot be received by Deutsche Telekom. In this case, the SMS will be read out.

SMS using Anny Way

• The number for the Anny Way message centre is 019001504.
  oNo registration is necessary when using Anny Way. Simply send any SMS and you will be automatically registered with Anny way.
  oSMS from the D1 (T-Mobile) and E-Plus networks cannot be received by Anny Way. In this case, the SMS will be read out.

SMS using Deutsche Telekom and Anny Way.

You can also receive SMS messages from both providers simultaneously with your telephone. The sending of SMS messages is only possible via one provider. First decide which supplier you will want to use later for your SMS messages.

- Sending and receiving SMS -

Sending via Deutsche Telekom and receiving from both providers.

• Enter the Anny Way number 019001504 in Message Centre 1.
• Send a test SMS with any content (e.g. Test) to the number 2 5 4 7 and wait for a confirmation, which you will receive as an SMS. This can take a few minutes.
• Then enter the Deutsche Telekom number 0193010 in Message Centre 1.
  ○Now enter the Anny Way number 019001504 in Message Centre 2.
• Now send an SMS with the text ANMELD (register) to the number 8 8 8 8 and after a few minutes you will receive a confirmation as an SMS.

Sending via Anny Way and receiving from both providers.

• Enter the Deutsche Telekom number 0193010 in Message Centre 1.
• Now send an SMS with the text ANMELD (register) to the number 8 8 8 8 and wait for a confirmation, which you will receive as an SMS. This can take a few minutes.
• Then enter the Anny Way number 019001504 in Message Centre 1.
• Now enter the Deutsche Telekom number 0193010 in Message Centre 2.
• Send a test SMS with any content (e.g. Test) to the number 2 5 4 7 and after a few minutes you will receive a confirmation as an SMS.

7.1 Sending an SMS message

1. Press the SMS button and then the button once.
2. Now enter the required SMS message with a maximum of 160 characters. The number of characters still available will be shown in the bottom right of the display. Letters can be deleted with the ⏻/💡 button.

Note: The EATONI © text recognition system is available for the easy entry of texts. For further information on this, see below. If you do not want to work using this automatic text recognition system, press and hold the # button until the message Standard (#) appears in the display.

1. Confirm your text with the button.
2. Now enter the telephone number to which you would like to send the SMS message. An already existing number can be deleted by pressing the 📄 button.

You can also use numbers stored in the phone book. To do this, go to the

Phonebook function with the button and confirm with the MENUE button. Here, choose the required phone number and again confirm with the button. The selected number will now be shown in the display.

You can still delete the entire message (Delete?) at this point in the menu or edit this text again (Edit message).

1. To send the SMS message, now press the button and the message will be sent.

Sent SMS messages are stored in the Outbox folder and can be read again later or resent.

- Sending and receiving SMS -

The EATONI © text recognition system

The problem is as old as SMS: the telephone keypad has 12 number keys, but, for entering letters, at least 26 are required - plus special characters. For this reason, several letters are assigned to each button. With the classical method of entry, it is necessary to press the buttons several times.

The EATONI © text recognition system uses a knowledge of linguistics and chaos theory to describe languages in terms of computational rules. Because the system always assumes the most likely combination of letters, its success quota is very high even at the entry stage. If the automatic selection is wrong, the incorrect character is corrected with the ☑ button while entering the text and the correct text is thus shown in the display.

7.2 Reading SMS messages received

As soon as an SMS message is received, you will hear a signal tone and you will be informed via the display. The incoming SMS messages are stored in the INBOX folder. A maximum of 50 SMS messages can remain stored in the telephone. The number may vary depending upon the length of the SMS messages. When the memory is full, an appropriate warning will appear and you must delete either individual or all SMS messages.

1. Press the SMS button.
2. Select the Inbox function using the button and confirm with the MENU button. A list of all the received SMS messages will now appear in the display. The first words of each received SMS will be visible.
3. Now select the required SMS using the 🔒 and ▲ buttons. SMS messages that have not yet been read are identified with a symbol.
4. Confirm with the button. The SMS can now be seen in the display. You can scroll the text using the and buttons.
5. After you have read the text, confirm with the button.
6. The following options will now appear in the display:

Delete? - SMS will be deleted from the SMS inbox.

Reply - A new SMS can be created directly for the sender.

Forward - The SMS can be forwarded to another subscriber.

Now select the required function using the 🔒 and ▼ buttons. Confirm with the MENUE button and follow the instructions in the display or exit this menu item by pressing and holding the ⏻/○ button.

7.3 Deleting all SMS messages

All SMS messages in the Inbox and Outbox folders can be completely deleted.

1. Press the SMS button.
2. Select the Delete all function using the button and confirm with the button.
3. Confirm the deletion with the button or exit this menu item by pressing and holding the Ⓞ/☐ button.

7.4 Setting up the SMS centre

Two SMS phone numbers can be programmed into your telephone. The phone number for sending and receiving SMS messages is entered under "Message Centre 1" and one additional number for receiving under "Message Centre 2".

Note: If you want to use the Deutsche Telekom SMS centre, you do not have to enter the phone number as this number is already preset.

1. Press the button twice.
2. Select the Settings menu by pressing ▼ and confirm with Ⓜ.
3. Select the Msg center 1 function by pressing and confirm with MEME
4. Now enter the telephone number for message centre 1 and confirm with the button.
5. Select the Msg center 2 function by pressing and confirm with
6. Now enter the telephone number for message centre 2 and confirm with the button.
7. Exit the entry mode by holding the 📊/⏻ button pressed.

7.5 Switching off the SMS signal tone

As soon as you receive an SMS message, you will hear a signal tone and you will be informed via the display. If you do not want to be informed of newly received SMS messages by means of this signal tone, for example at night, this tone can be switched off.

1. Press the button twice.
2. Select the Settings menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the Melody function by pressing and confirm with MENUE
4. Select On or Off with ▲ and ▼.
5. Confirm with MENUE
6. Exit the entry mode by holding the ☑/☐ button pressed.

- T-NET/Private exchanges -

8 T-NET mode / Private exchanges

You can use the "R" signal button (INT) on your telephone on private exchanges and when using DEUTSCHE TELEKOM's T-Net functions.

8.1 "R" Button on Private Exchanges

If you have connected your telephone to a private exchange, you can use all the facilities such as call transfer, automatic recall, etc. The "R" signal button gives you access to these facilities. The FLASH time "100ms" will be required on a private exchange. You can find out from the dealer from whom the equipment was purchased whether your telephone will work on your private exchange without any problems. Due to the large number of different private exchanges, it is not possible to guarantee this function.

8.2 "R" Button and the DEUTSCHE TELEKOM T-Net

Your AUDIOLINE telephone supports the most important DEUTSCHE TELEKOM added value functions (e.g. brokering, call waiting, three-way conference, etc.). The T-NET works using the "FLASH 300ms" setting. Please contact DEUTSCHE TELEKOM to gain access to T-Net functions.

8.3 Setting the FLASH time

8.4 Outside line code

With private exchanges, it is necessary to dial a certain number (e.g. "9" or "0") in order to obtain a dialling tone for an outside line on the extension. With some, older private exchanges, it takes some time before the dialling tone can be heard. Especially for these private exchanges, an automatic pause can be inserted after connecting to the outside line so that you can dial directly without waiting for the dialling tone. Two different outside line codes can be entered.

Special note: If you have not connected your telephone to a private exchange or if your private exchange works without a pause or without connecting to an outside line, please do not enter any settings in this area.

- T-NET/Private exchanges -

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the PABX Setup function by pressing and confirm with MENUE
4. Select the function PBX Code 1 or PBX Code 2 with ⚠ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
5. Enter the Pin Code (factory setting 0 0 0 0) and confirm with .
6. Now enter the required outside line code. Outside line codes already entered can now be deleted with the ⏻ button.
7. Confirm with the button.
8. Select the Pause function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
9. Select the required pause length of 3 or 5 seconds with ⚠ and ⏰ and confirm with Ⓜ MENUE
10. Exit the entry mode by holding the ⏻/按钮 pressed.

9 Special functions

All further programming functions can be accessed by means of a very user-friendly menu. Here are a few general instructions to help you find your way around the menu:

Programming is started by means of the MENUE button.

You can find the required level using the [IMAGE] and [IMAGE] buttons. The selected level is indicated by a small arrow in the left half of the display.

This level is opened using the buttons.

You can then again find the required function using the buttons and again confirm with the MENUE button.

You can go back one level each time by pressing the [×/○] button.

Each save procedure will be cancelled automatically if no input is made within 15 seconds.

You can leave programming mode at any time without making any changes by pressing and holding the [×/○] button.

9.1 Setting the call tone on the handset (ring tones)

Your handset can respond with five different ringing tones when a call comes through. If you are using the telephone system with several handsets, you can set different ring tones for external and internal calls.

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Handset Menu by pressing 📋 and confirm with MENUE .
3. Select the function Ext. Melody (ring tone for external calls) or Int. Melody (ring tone for internal calls) with the 🔒 and ▼ buttons and confirm with ⓂMENUE.
4. Select the required tone with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMENUE.
5. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

9.2 Ring tone volume on the handset

The volume of the ring tone on the handset can be adjusted in five steps. If at any time you do not want to be disturbed, you can turn the ring tone off altogether. If the ring tone is turned off, incoming calls will only be signalled at the base station and by means of the display on the handset.

2. Select the Handset Menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the Ring Volume function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Select the required volume or switch the ring tone off with Volume off using and and confirm with .

9.3 Setting the call tones on the base station (ring tones)

The base station can also respond with five different ringing tones when a call comes through.

3. Select the Base Melody function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMEUE .
4. Select the required tone with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMEUE .

9.4 Ring tone volume on the base station

The volume of the ring tone on the base station can be adjusted in five steps. If at any time you do not want to be disturbed, you can also turn the ring tone off altogether.

9.5 Adjusting the receiver volume

Here, you can match the receiver volume to the noise level of the environment in five steps.

4. Select the required volume from 1 to 5 with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .

9.6 Accepting calls automatically

Incoming calls are accepted automatically when you lift the receiver from the base station. If you only want calls to be accepted by means of the ⏻ button, you can deactivate the automatic acceptance facility.

1. Press the button.

2. Select the Handset Menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.

3. Select the Auto answer function with 🔒 and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Select On or Off with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMENUE .
5. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

9.7 DTMF or pulse dialling

This feature enables you to use your telephone on analogue exchanges (PULSE DIALLING) or on the new digital exchanges (DTMF). The factory setting is DTMF dialling.

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the Dialling Mode function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Select the required dialling method with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
5. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

9.8 Changing display names

In normal operation, the message "DECT5600 1" appears in the display. If you have logged on several handsets to one base station, it can be useful to give each handset its own name. The number after the name shows with which number the handset can be called internally.

1. Press the button.

2. Select the Handset Menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.

3. Select the Handset Name function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Now enter the required name using the number pad. Letters already entered can be deleted by repeatedly pressing the Ⓞ/☐ button.
5. Confirm with . MENUE
6. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

9.9 Activating/Deactivating warning tones

Here, various warning tones can be activated or deactivated.

Button click: Each time a button is pressed, the handset confirms with a button click. The button click can be switched on or off.

Warning tone for low battery: If the battery capacity is too low, a warning tone will remind you that you must charge the handset.

Range warning: If you are too far away from the base station, a warning tone will remind you that you are losing contact with the base station.

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Handset Menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the Warning tones function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MEME.
4. Select one of the functions Key Press, Low battery or Out of Range using Ⓗ and ⚪ and confirm with MENUE
5. Switch the selected warning tone on or off using ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE
6. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

9.10 Changing the PIN code

Some functions of the telephone system are protected against unauthorised use by a PIN code. The PIN code consists of four numbers. As supplied, the PIN code is set to "0000". To change the PIN code, proceed as follows:

The display messages can be set up in German, English, French, Portuguese and Dutch.

Note: The phone book, the caller list (CLIP) and all phone numbers in the redial facility are erased.

3. Select the Default function with 🔒 and ▼ and confirm with Ⓜ.

4. Enter the PIN code using the number pad (factory setting 0 0 0 0) and confirm with MENUE.

5. After a short time, the factory settings will be restored. The display will indicate the ready mode once more.

10 Several handsets

Up to four further handsets can be logged onto your base station. These additional handsets can be obtained from your AUDIOLINE dealer with the designation DECT 5501+.

When you use several handsets you will have the following options:
-Internal calls between handsets.
-External calls can be forwarded between handsets.
-Conference calls between two internal and one external subscriber.
-Incoming external calls are signalled on all handsets.
-Use of room monitoring.

Note: Handsets from other manufacturers can also be integrated into the telephone system by means of the internationally adopted GAP standard. In this case, it is possible that not all functions are available. In the same way, you can use an AUDIOLINE DECT5600SMS handset on base stations from other manufacturers, as long as these units work using the GAP standard.

Note: If another handset is already using the external line, the message EXT will appear in the display. In this case, it is not possible to make a further external call.

10.1 Making an internal call

When you have connected several handsets to a base station, you will be able to make internal calls.

Press the Ⓗ button for 2 seconds and then enter the number of the required handset. The call is accepted with the call button ⏰ on the handset called.

10.2 Connecting external calls to another handset

If you have accepted an external call on one handset, you can forward the external call to another handset. Press the ☑ button for 2 seconds and then enter the number of the required handset. After the internal call has been accepted at the other handset, you have the following options:

A. Consultation / Brokering: You can now speak to the internal subscriber. Press the button for 2 seconds to return to the external caller. You can switch between the external and the internal conversation as many times as you like in this way.

B. Forward the call: The external call is forwarded to the handset called by pressing the call button ⏻ on the first handset.

10.3 Holding conference calls

An external call can be connected to a further internal subscriber as a conference call. In this way, two handsets can talk to the external caller simultaneously.

1. Establish the required connection with the external subscriber.
2. Press the button for 2 seconds and enter the internal number of the second handset required.
3. When the second internal subscriber has accepted the call, press the # button for 2 seconds and all three subscribers will be connected together on a conference call. If the second internal subscriber does not reply, press the 📋 button again for 2 seconds to return to the external caller.
4. The conference will automatically be terminated when one internal subscriber presses the call button. However, the second internal subscriber will remain connected with the external caller.

10.4 Internal room monitoring

You can also use the second handset as an internal room monitor. With room monitoring, you can listen in to another room without the call having to be accepted there. For this purpose, one handset is switched to the room monitoring mode. When an internal call is made to this handset, the microphone is switched on without a ringing signal and you will be able to listen in to the room. Monitoring is switched off again using the call button

Activating room monitoring

1. Press the button. The menu will now be shown in the display.
2. Select Monitor Mode in the menu using the button and confirm with the MENU.
3. Select On using the button and confirm with the MENU button. When room monitoring is activated, the message Monitor Mode appears in the display.

Deactivating room monitoring

1. To deactivate room monitoring, press the button once.
2. Select Monitor Mode in the menu using the button and confirm with the MENU.
3. Select off using the 🔒 button and confirm with the Ⓜ button. The Monitor Mode message will disappear and you will be able to use the handset normally once more.

10.5 Ringing priority

When using a number of handsets, one handset can be set to ring before all the others. You can also select the base station if, for example, you have a cord telephone connected in parallel. In this case, it is the telephone and base station that ring first, before the handsets. Even when a handset does not ring, the incoming call is visually indicated and can be taken from the handset.

Switching priority on or off

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE .
3. Select the Ring priority function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⒽMENUE .
4. You can now select whether you would like this function to be switched on or off using and .
5. Confirm your selection with the button.
6. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

Defining priority

1. Press the button.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE .
3. Select the Ring priority function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Select the Def. priority function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMEUE .
5. Select the required handset Handset 1-5 or the base station Base with and confirm with . The display shows after how many rings Rings 1 - 9 the call will be forwarded.
6. Select the required number of rings Rings 1 - 9 with ⚠️ and ⏰️ and confirm with Ⓜ MENUE
7. Now select further menu functions or exit the menu by pressing and holding the button.

10.6 Logging on and logging off handsets

10.6.1 Logging on DECT5600SMS handsets

1. Press and hold the page button on the base station for 10 seconds until you hear two signal tones. Now log on the new handset to the base station within 90 seconds.
2. Press the button on the handset.
3. Select the Registration menu with and confirm with the MENUE button.
4. Now enter the number of the base station (1 - 4) using the number pad. If the handset is already connected to another base, the corresponding numbers will flash.
5. Confirm your entry with the button.
6. Now enter the PIN code of the base station (factory setting 0 0 0 0).
7. Confirm your entry with the MENUE button and after a few seconds you will hear a signal tone. The handset is now logged on and can be used for external and internal calls.
8. A telephone number will now be automatically assigned to the handset. The main handset already logged on has the internal number 1. All further handsets that are logged on will be numbered in the sequence in which they were logged on (internal phone numbers 2 to 5). This internal telephone number will be indicated on the right of the display next to the name.

10.6.2 Logging off handsets

A handset can only be logged off using another handset that is still logged-on. It is therefore not possible to carry out the logging-off procedure using the handset that is to be logged off.

1. Press the button on the handset.

2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.

3. Select the Remove HS function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with ⓂMENUE .

4. Now enter the PIN code of the base station (factory setting 0 0 0 0) and confirm with the button.

5. Now select the number of the handset to be logged off with and and confirm with MENUE

6. The safety query Confirm will now appear in the display. Confirm the logging-off action with the button or abort logging-off by pressing and holding the button. If the logging-off is successful, after a few seconds you will hear a signal tone. The handset is now logged off and can no longer be used.

10.7 Additional base stations

A number of base stations can be used to extend the coverage available to the handsets. To make use of this effect, all the base stations must have a telephone connection. Depending on your objectives, you can provide each base station with its own telephone line or connect them all to the same line. A new number will be allocated to the handset each time that it moves within range of another base station.

You should ensure that the coverages of the base stations overlap. Before adding a new base station to your system, check the range of the handsets.

If a handset is registered with the base station and automatic base station selection is switched on (further information in this chapter), the handset will be automatically handed on to the next base station. Calls in progress cannot be passed from one base station to another.

Selecting a base station

1. Press the button on the handset.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
3. Select the Select base function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE .
4. Select the required base station with ⚠ and ⚡. In the AUTO setting, the handset changes automatically to the nearest base station. If the handset is logged on to the base station concerned, a small tick appears after the number. Only these base stations can be selected.
5. Confirm with the MENUE button. A search will be carried out for the selected base station and it will be connected to the handset.

Viewing the base station identification number

1. Press the button on the handset.
2. Select the Setup menu by pressing and confirm with MENUE.
3. Select the Base Id function with ▲ and ▼ and confirm with MENUE. The base station identification number will now appear in the display.

If you have any problems with your AUDIOLINE DECT5600SMS, please check through the following points. For claims under guarantee, please contact your dealer. The guarantee period is two years.

AUDIOLINE equipment is manufactured and tested in accordance with the most up to date production methods. Selected materials and highly developed technology ensure trouble-free operation and long life. If your unit should develop a fault within the guarantee period, however, please contact the shop where you bought your AUDIOLINE equipment exclusively and have your purchase receipt available for inspection. The guarantee period is 24 months from the day of purchase under the following conditions: within the guarantee period, all defects due to material or manufacturing faults will be repaired free of charge. The guarantee is invalidated if the equipment has been tampered with by the purchaser or third parties. Any damage caused by improper handling or operation, by incorrect positioning or storage, by improper connection or installation or by excessive force or other external influences is not covered by the guarantee. In the case of complaint, we reserve the right to repair or replace defective parts or to exchange the equipment. Exchanged parts or exchanged equipment become our property. Claims for compensation are excluded insofar as they do not relate to criminal intent or gross negligence on the part of the manufacturer. All guarantee claims according to these conditions must be raised exclusively with your dealer. Rights under the guarantee can no longer be enforced after the expiry of 24 months from purchase and delivery of our products. In the case of unnecessary or unjustified demands on the customer service department, we will levy our usual service charges for materials, time, postage and packing. Any complaints must be reported as soon as a problem is found. The guarantee is valid within the German Federal Republic.
