How to use the Steba EK 5 egg cooker?

Fill the measuring cup to the desired level (for hard, medium or soft-boiled eggs), pour the water into the heating plate, place the eggs in the holder, close the lid and turn on the appliance. The automatic shut-off activates when the water has evaporated.

How many eggs can be cooked at once?

The Steba EK 5 can cook up to 7 eggs simultaneously.

How to adjust the egg cooking?

Use the supplied measuring cup: the water level indicates the desired doneness. For example, for soft-boiled eggs, fill to the corresponding mark. The more water, the more cooked the eggs will be.

Does the appliance switch off automatically?

Yes, the Steba EK 5 is equipped with an automatic shut-off that cuts the power as soon as all the water has evaporated, thus preventing overheating.

How to clean the egg cooker?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool down. The removable parts (lid, egg holder, measuring cup) can be washed in the dishwasher. Wipe the heating plate with a damp cloth. Never immerse the base in water.

Can I use the cooker for anything other than eggs?

This cooker is specially designed for eggs. It can also be used to poach eggs or heat small amounts of food, but is not suitable for other intensive uses.

What to do if the appliance does not turn on?

How to descale the egg cooker?

To remove limescale, pour a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2) into the heating plate and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly with clean water before next use.

The indicator light stays on permanently, is this normal?

The indicator light shows that the appliance is operating. It turns off automatically when the cooking cycle is complete (automatic shut-off). If it remains on after cooling, contact customer service.

This appliance is for private and indoor use only and must not be used commercially. Please read the instruction manual carefully and keep it at a safe place. When the appliance is given to another person the instruction manual should be passed to that person, too. Only use the appliance as described in the instruction manual and pay attention to the safety information. No liability for damages or accidents will be accepted, which are caused by not paying attention to the instruction manual.

Safety information

• The appliance must be used and plugged in only according the requirements shown on the rating label.
• Use the appliance only if the cord shows no damages. Check this before every use!
• Do not touch the power plug with wet hands.
• Connect the power plug to a properly installed and easily accessible socket only.
• To unplug the power plug, always pull the plug – not the cable.
• Plug off the appliance after each use or in case of failure.
• Do not pull at the cord. Don't pull it over edges and don't bend it too much.

- Keep the cord away from hot parts.

The appliance can be used by children aged 8 and above and persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience/knowledge, provided that are supervised or have been provided with instruction in the safe use of the appliance and have understood the resulting dangers. Children must not use the packaging as a toy. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children unless they are 8 years or older and are supervised.

• Children under the age of 8 must be kept away from the appliance and the connecting cable.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance or packaging material (e.g. Plastic Bags).
• The appliance must not be operated using a timer or a separate remote system!
• After using the appliance or if the appliance malfunctions, always pull out the plug.

Attention! Housing and glass get hot. Danger of burns! Please noted that the heating element surface is subject to residual heat after use.

• When using a powercord extension it is important that children are not pulling at it or a trip hazard occurs.
• The appliance must always be unplugged in case of no supervision, prior to assembly, the dismantling or cleaning.

Using the egg boiler:

• Before the first use clean the heating plate with a wet cloth
- Unwind the cable from the bottom of the appliance until desired length
- Place the appliance in horizontal position and connect it to a security plug
- Fill the measuring cup with water up to the brim and pour it into the heating plate, then put the egg tray on the appliance.
- Before placing the eggs, pierce them at the truncated side with the egg pierce at the bottom of the measuring cup so as to prevent them from cracking
- Then put the cover on the appliance.

Adjusting the boiling degree:

• There is a rotary knob for adjusting the boiling degree
• The boiling degree is adjusted to personal judgement.

from the Off position. Adjustment: When the regulator is turned from OFF to ON the blue lamp flashes, after which you have 5 seconds to select an icon .

After approx. 5 seconds a beep is heard and the selected program commences. Do not adjust the regulator again after this point. The eggs are done when the blue lamp goes off and the device beeps 10 times. The device switches itself to standby mode automatically after the program has completed.

Attention: hot steam will escape, when the lid is taken off

- Put the eggs under cold water by grasping the handle of the tray to avoid fermentation

Poached eggs

Pour a measuring jug full of water into the dish, and fit the egg carrier to the poacher. Break 1 – 3 eggs into the poaching dishes and put the dishes onto the carrier. Put on the cover. Select medium setting . The poaching result depends on the size and temperature of the eggs and your own seasoning.

Cleaning instruction

• Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet before cleaning
• When the plug is removed from the electrical outlet, let the egg boiler cool down before cleaning
• Clean the heating element with a wet cloth
• In case of calcium deposits use diluted vinegar for approx. 10 minutes rinse the cooking plate carefully ● Do not scratch with hard objects in the heating plate and do not use aggressive cleaning products.
• Only clean the appliance from the ouside with a wet cloth. Cover, egg tray & egg cups are dishwasher proof.
• Important: Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
