How to install the TP-Link TL-R460 router?

Plug in the power adapter, connect the modem's Ethernet cable to the WAN port (yellow), then connect your devices to the LAN ports (black). Access the interface via http://192.168.1.1 with username 'admin' and password 'admin'.

What to do if I forgot the administration password?

Press and hold the Reset button on the back for about 10 seconds with a pointed object. Factory settings will be restored (IP: 192.168.1.1, username and password: admin).

How to configure Wi-Fi on the TL-R460?

The TL-R460 is a wired router only, without Wi-Fi function. To add Wi-Fi, connect an access point or wireless router to it.

How to set up port forwarding?

Log in to the interface, go to Forwarding > Virtual Servers. Add an entry with the port, protocol, and local IP address of the target device.

Why is my Internet connection unstable?

Check the cables, restart the modem and router. Make sure the firmware is up to date (interface > System Tools > Firmware Upgrade). Try changing the Ethernet cable.

How to reset the router to factory settings?

Press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds or via the interface: System Tools > Factory Settings > Restore.

What is the default password?

Username: admin, password: admin. IP address: 192.168.1.1. It is strongly recommended to change it on first login.

The router supports VPN pass-through (PPTP, L2TP, IPSec). Set up the VPN server on a device on the local network; the router will pass traffic automatically.

Enable the SPI firewall (Security > Firewall), filter allowed MAC addresses (Access Control), and disable remote management.

Can I use the TL-R460 as a switch?

Yes, disable the DHCP server in the interface, then connect the WAN port to another router. The LAN ports will work as a switch.

Hardware Installation

Connect the Hardware

If your Internet connection is through an Ethernet cable from the wall instead of through a DSL/Cable/Satellite modem, connect the Ethernet cable directly to the router's Internet port, and skip Steps 2, 3, and 5 to complete the hardware connection.

1. Install the antennas. If the antennas are already fixed, move to the next step. 2. Turn off the modem, and remove the backup battery if it has one. 3. Connect the modem to the Internet (or WAN) port on your router with an Ethernet cable. 4. Turn on the router, and wait for it to start. 5. Turn on the modem.

Configure via Web Browser

1. Connect your computer to the router (Wired or Wireless).

Wired:

Turn off the Wi-Fi on your computer and connect your computer to the router's LAN (1/2/3/4) port using an Ethernet cable.

Wireless:

Connect your computer to the router wirelessly. The SSID and Wireless Password are on the router's label.

2. Enter http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1

in the address bar of a web browser. Create a password for future login attempts, or use admin for both username and password for some routers.

Note: If the login window does not appear, please refer to FAQ > Q1.

3. Go to Quick Setup page, and follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the initial configuration.

Q1. What can I do if the login window does not appear?

• If the computer is set to a static or fixed IP address, change the setting to obtain an IP address automatically. - Verify that http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 is correctly entered in the web browser. Alternatively, enter http://192.168.1.1 in the web browser. - Use another web browser and try again. - Reboot your router and try again. - Disable and enable the network adapter in use again.

Q2. What can I do if I cannot access the internet?

- Check if the Internet is working properly by connecting a computer directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable. If it is not, contact your Internet Service Provider.
