How to use the Krups FDK452 croque-monsieur press?

Plug in the appliance, wait for the green light to turn on (ready). Place the filled slices of bread on the lower plate, close the lid and lower the handle. Allow about 3 to 5 minutes depending on desired browning.

How to clean the plates?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool down completely. Wipe the plates with a damp soft cloth. Never immerse them in water. For stubborn residue, use a non-abrasive sponge.

What types of bread can I use?

Use classic or slightly thick sliced bread. Avoid very dense or too large bread that could block the closure of the appliance.

Can I make paninis with this appliance?

Yes, the Krups FDK452 is perfectly suitable for paninis. Use ciabatta or baguette bread and fill as you wish. Slightly longer cooking time.

Is the non-stick coating safe?

Yes, the coating is PFOA-free and compliant with food standards. Use wooden or silicone utensils to preserve the non-stick layer.

What to do if the indicator light does not turn on?

Check that the appliance is properly plugged into a working outlet. If the problem persists, contact Krups after-sales service.

Does the appliance turn off automatically?

Yes, the appliance has an automatic shutdown after 30 minutes of inactivity for your safety.

Can I put the plates in the dishwasher?

No, the plates are not dishwasher safe. Clean them by hand with a damp cloth to preserve their coating.

WARNINGS

This appliance is solely intended for domestic use.

It has not been designed for use in the following cases, which are not covered by the warranty:

• In kitchen areas reserved for staff in shops, offices and other professional environments
• On farms
• By clients of hotels, motels and other residential environments
• In guest room environments.

Never leave the appliance unattended.

This appliance is not designed for use by people (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capacities are reduced, or by people lacking in experience or knowledge, unless they have been able to benefit from supervision or prior instruction from a person responsible for their safety concerning the use of the appliance.

Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

Keep the appliance and its lead out of reach of children aged under 8 years

The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be high when the appliance is in operation.

What to do

Read the instructions in this manual carefully and keep them readily available. They are common to all different versions depending on the accessories delivered with your appliance and should be kept readily available.

If an accident occurs, run cold water immediately over the burn and call a doctor if necessary.

On first use, wash the plates (see paragraph on CLEANING on page 55), pour a little oil onto each plate and wipe it with a soft cloth.

If the appliance is used in the centre of the table, keep it out of reach of children.

Take care with the location of the lead with or without an extension lead, take every precaution necessary so as not to disturb movement of others around the table so that no one trips over the lead.

To protect the coating of the cooking plate, always use a plastic or wooden spatula. Check that the appliance is unplugged before cleaning.

The cooking plates, tray and body of the appliance can be cleaned with a sponge, hot water and washing-up liquid.

Cooking fumes may be dangerous for animals with a particularly sensitive respiratory system, such as birds. We advise bird owners to keep them away from the cooking area.

What not to do

Never plug the appliance in when not in use.

To avoid the appliance overheating, do not place it in a corner or against a wall.

Never place your appliance directly on a fragile surface (glass table, tablecloth, varnished surface, etc.) or on a plastic tablecloth.

Do not place the appliance on or near slippery or hot surfaces, and do not leave the lead hanging over a heat source (electric hob, gas burners, etc.).

Do not place any cooking utensils on the cooking surfaces of the appliance.

Do not cut directly on the plates or on the tray.

Never use metal scourers or scouring powder so as not to damage the cooking surface (e.g., non-stick coating, etc.).

Do not put the appliance and its lead in the dishwasher.

Never immerse the appliance or the lead in water.

Never heat up the appliance in the vertical position.

Do not place the appliance on or near slippery or hot surfaces, and do not leave the lead hanging over a heat source (electric hob, gas burners, etc.).

INSTRUCTIONS

The explanatory drawings are on page 88

Put the appliance on a firm surface.

Before using:

Fully unwind the lead.

Open the appliance.

Remove all packaging, labels or accessories from the inside and outside of the appliance.

Using your appliance

Close the appliance.

Check that the switch is set at 0.

Connect the lead to the mains. Set the switch (f) to on (position 1). The red light (d) comes on (1).

Leave the appliance to pre-heat: the green light (e) comes on when the cooking temperature has been reached (2).

Open the appliance and place the prepared items on the plates.

Close the appliance. The appliance locking clip adjusts to the thickness of the different types of food (3).

Leave the food to cook for the required time.

When cooking croque-monsieur, it is normal for the green light to switch on and off intermittently.

At the end of cooking, switch the appliance off by pressing 0. Then disconnect the plug. Leave to cool for 2 hours.

Practical tips

The cooking time varies according to the humidity of the bread and the type of garnish used.

In any case, it is advisable to check the cooking according to your taste.

When cooking has ended, remove the croque-monsieur using a wooden spatula.

Always disconnect the appliance before cleaning, and leave to cool completely.

Do not immerse the appliance.

To clean the exterior,

wipe with a damp cloth and dry.

To clean the interior,

wipe the plates with a damp cloth, some dishwashing soap may be used. Then wipe with a wet sponge and dry carefully.

The appliance can be stored vertically to save space. Wind up the cord into the cord storage area (4).

Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point.

Ham and cheese toasted sandwich

4 slices of bread - 20 g butter - 70 g gruyere cheese - 1 slice cooked ham - pepper.

Butter the outer surfaces of the slices of bread. Cut the gruyere cheese into thin slices and place half of the cheese on two slices of bread. Place half slice of ham on top and add pepper. Cover with gruyere cheese then join with the other slices of bread.

Cream cheese and onion toasted sandwich

4 slices of bread - 20 g butter - 1 small onion - chives - 4 tbsp cream cheese, well drained - 1 tbsp double cream - salt - paprika.

Butter the outer surfaces of the slices of bread. Peel and finely chop the onion. Wash the chives and cut into tiny pieces with scissors. In a bowl, mix the onion and the chives with the cream cheese, the double cream, one pinch of salt and half tsp paprika. Fill two slices of bread with the preparation, then cover with the remaining slices.

Roquefort and walnut toasted sandwich

4 slices of bread - 30 g butter - 8 walnuts - 50 g Roquefort cheese (or stilton).

Butter the outer surfaces of the slices of bread. Roughly chop the walnuts. Stir them with 10 g butter and the Roquefort cheese. Fill two slices of bread with the preparation, then cover with the remaining slices.

Chocolate and banana toasted sandwich

4 slices of bread - 20 g butter - 2 bars of plain chocolate - half banana.

Butter the outer surfaces of the slices of bread. On two of them, place two pieces of chocolate, some banana cut into slices and, once more, two pieces of chocolate. Then cover with the remaining slices of bread.
