Is this subwoofer compatible with my BMW?

The Focal IFBMW-Sub is designed to fit many BMW models, including the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, X1, X3 series, etc. Check exact compatibility in the manual or on the Focal website.

How to install the IFBMW-Sub?

Installation is simplified thanks to the specific BMW wiring harness. Disconnect the battery, connect the subwoofer to the dedicated location (under the seat or in the trunk) and plug in the connector. Refer to the manual for details.

What amplifier power is recommended?

An amplifier delivering between 150 and 300 W RMS at 4 ohms is ideal. Make sure the impedance matches.

Can I adjust the cutoff frequency?

Yes, the subwoofer includes an adjustable low-pass filter. Adjust it between 50 and 150 Hz according to your preferences.

Is the IFBMW-Sub powered by the car radio?

No, it requires a direct power supply from the battery via a power cable provided or purchased separately.

What type of cable should be used for connection?

Use a power cable of at least 4 mm² cross-section and a good quality shielded RCA signal cable.

How to maintain the subwoofer?

Clean the grille with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid moisture and chemicals.

What to do if the sound is distorted?

Check the gain and filter settings, the impedance, and the amplifier power. A level that is too high can cause distortion.

Is there thermal protection?

Yes, the subwoofer has built-in thermal protection that cuts the sound in case of overheating.

Where can I find spare parts?

Important recommendations

Before attempting any installation work, it is very important to check how much space is available to fit the speakers into the vehicle.

Key points:

• Ensure the speaker is clean from debris and metallic particles that maybe attached (especially after drilling).
• Clean before mounting the speakers.

Conditions of guarantee

All Focal loudspeakers are covered by guarantee drawn up by the official Focal distributor in your country. Your distributor can provide all details concerning the conditions of guarantee. Guarantee cover extends at least to that granted by the legal guarantee in force in the country where the original purchase invoice was issued.

2 way kit IFBMW-S installation

• This kit has been designed for installation in a BMW® (1 Series / 3 Series / X1)
• The components of this dedicated kit are compatible with this vehicle's original connectors and fixings.
• Take extreme care when installing.
• Only the use of appropriate quality tools can guarantee optimal installation.
• Connectors are fragile electronic components. Handle with care.
• Follow these instructions correctly to ensure the proper functioning of the IFBMW-SUB kit.
• Before restarting your system, check your car radio settings (which differ according to the vehicle's model, version and engine).

* Product non adaptable in the last versions (serie "F"). Non-exhaustive list of vehicles.

WARNING

• Before beginning installation, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any risk of injury fire material damage and airbag deployment during you disconnect the plug under the seat).
  The minimum delay to keep the battery unconnected is 30 mn to 1 hour (following the years and model of car).
• Do not leave the ignition key in the slot and does not involve nor the stop / start button or key on during intervention.
• Keep the trunk opened during all the installation (unlocked position).

In order to obtain the best results and safety installation (mentioned above), we highly recommend you have your product installed by your local Focal dealer.

*Depends of cars models (and options of equipment) but you can have others connectors in addition of this yellow one. In this case please remove all of them carefully.

N°18. In case of the original subwoofer is glued, unscrew the 2 CHC screw (to remove the complete enclosure)

1) Speaker dismantling

Depends on models of BMW cars but it may be that the subwoofer could be glued.

In the case of the speaker (N°1) is glued, the replacement will be final and damageable for it.

Be careful not to damage the plastic enclosure (n°4) which can be re used for the Focal IFBMW-SUB speaker installation.

2) IFBMW-SUB installation

Before the IFBMW-SUB installation, please check that the surface between the subowoffer and the plastic factory enclosure as no damage (the back rubber ring might be in contact with a clean surface).

Use the 4 supplied screw to fix the top FOCAL metal grill (N°1) on the speaker (N°2).

When subwoofer replacement is finish, please note to re install the top plastic BMW factory grille (N°3).

This symbol indicates that electrical and electronic equipment must be disposed of separately from normal garbage at the end of its operational lifetime.
