Frequently Asked Questions - RMR391PA OREGON SCIENTIFIC

How do I set the time manually if the atomic signal is weak?
Press and hold the SET button for 2 seconds. Use UP or DOWN to adjust hour, minute, year, month, day, and language. Confirm with SET each step. To disable DCF reception, press RECEPTION or hold SET until reception icon disappears.
How do I change the batteries?
Open the battery compartment on the back of the main unit. Remove old batteries and insert two new AA batteries observing polarity. Press RESET after replacement. For the remote sensor, use two AAA batteries.
Why is the outdoor temperature not showing?
Check that the remote sensor is powered and within 30 meters (open area) of the main unit. Ensure they are on the same channel (1-3). Press and hold CHANNEL on the main unit to rescan. Replace sensor batteries if needed.
How do I set the alarm?
Press ALARM once to enter alarm setting. Use UP/DOWN to adjust hour and minute. Press ALARM again to confirm. Press ALARM repeatedly to toggle alarm on/off. The alarm icon shows when active.
How do I activate the snooze function?
When the alarm sounds, press any button except ALARM to snooze for 8 minutes. The alarm icon will flash during snooze. Press ALARM or SNOOZE to turn off the alarm entirely.
What do the weather forecast icons mean?
The clock uses barometric pressure trends to predict weather. Icons: Sunny (clear), Cloudy (partly), Rainy (precipitation). Accuracy is ~70%. Icons update every hour.
How do I reset the clock to factory settings?
Use a paperclip to press the RESET button inside the battery compartment. All settings will clear, and the clock will start searching for the atomic signal again. Reinstall batteries after reset.
Can I use an AC adapter instead of batteries?
Yes, the clock has a DC 5V input jack (not supplied). Use a standard 5V adapter with center positive polarity. Batteries are required to maintain time during power loss, but the adapter is recommended for continuous backlight use.
Why does the display show '--' for indoor temperature?
This usually indicates that the sensor is malfunctioning or the temperature is out of range. Check if the unit is placed near a heat source or direct sunlight. Remove and reinsert batteries, then press RESET.
How do I clean the clock?
Turn off the unit and remove batteries. Wipe the exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Do not use alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners. Avoid moisture entering the vents or display.

The transmission range may vary depending on many factors. You may need to experiment with various locations to get the best results.

NOTE We recommend that you use alkaline batteries with this product for longer usage and consumer grade lithium batteries in temperatures below freezing.

SENSOR DATA TRANSMISSION

Outdoor sensor:

The main unit will automatically search for the outdoor

sensor. The sensor reception icon in the remote sensor area shows the status:

ICON DESCRIPTION
OUT→OUT Main unit is searching for sensor(s)
OUT→OUT'→OUT →OUT A channel has been found
OUTThe sensor cannot be found.

NOTE If the sensor is not found, check the batteries, obstructions, and remote unit location.

For best results:

  • Place the sensor out of direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Position the sensor so that it faces the main unit, minimizing obstructions such as doors, walls and furniture.
  • Place the sensor in a location with a clear view to the sky, away from metallic / electronic objects.
  • Position the sensor close to the main unit during cold winter months as below-freezing temperatures may affect battery performance and signal transmission.

TIP Ideal placements for the sensor would be in any location on the exterior of the home at a height of not more than 1.5 m (5 ft) and which can shield it from direct sunlight or wet conditions for an accurate reading.
