Thank you for purchasing the Carmen ThermoCeramic Straight.

Please read these instructions carefully before using the product and keep

them in a safe place for future reference.

The instructions include safety guidelines and other information important for the proper functioning of the appliance. Please read the instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place. If the appliance changes hands, be sure to

give the instructions to the new owner. It is in your own interest to follow all safety guidelines.

> Safety instructions

• This appliance complies with the recognized rules of technology and the pertinent safety regulations for electrical appliances!
• To avoid damage or danger by improper use, the instructions for use should be carefully kept and followed!
• If the connecting cable is damaged, it should only be replaced by a service agent recommended by the manufacturer in order to prevent any danger. Please contact the manufacturer or his customer service.
• The voltage of the power source must be the same as specified on the rating plate!
• Connect the appliance only to AC current and to a socket with earthing contact. Do not pull the cable over sharp edges, clamp it into place or allow it to hang down! Keep the cable away from hot and damp areas!
  • Before use check that the appliance functions properly!

• the appliance has been dropped.
• Never wind the mains cable around the appliance!
• The connecting cable must not come into contact with hot appliance parts

and should never run between the straightening plates!

- Only insert the mains plug when the appliance is switched off!

Safety instructions when operating the appliance

• Always use the appliance for the appropriate purpose!
- The appliance must not come into contact with flammable materials. It must also not be used near flammable materials because the straightening plates reach temperatures of approx. 200°C!
- Never cover the straightening plates with any object!
- The appliance must never be switched on when clamped together. Ensure that the appliance is open!
- People with nervous disorders should not operate the appliance when alone in order to avoid any possible danger.
- Children are not aware of the hazards of electrical appliances. Therefore close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by children!
- Keep packaging material e.g. plastic bags out of the reach of children!

Warning!

Risk of burns from the straightening plates and hot appliance parts!

- Never grasp the appliance by or near the straightening plates when the appliance is on. The straightening plates and hot steam can cause burns. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Never transport the appliance when hot!

Warning! Risk of electric shock

- Never use the appliance with wet hands, in the bath or shower or over

a filled washbasin. If the appliance falls into water, remove the mains plug immediately. Under no circumstances reach into the water when the appliance is still connected to the power supply!

• When the appliance is used in a bathroom, unplug it after use since the proximity of water presents a hazard even when the appliance is switched off!
• Never put the appliance on soft cushions or blankets during operation!
  • After use, or if pausing for a significant length of time, disconnect the appliance from the mains and let the appliance cool down!
• Do not place the appliance or the connecting cable on hot surfaces e.g. cooker or similar or in the vicinity of open flames!

Warning! Risk of burns with hair spray!

• Never use flammable substances, e.g. hair spray, styling mousse etc., on your hair before using this appliance as this may cause burning when the substance comes into contact with the straightening plates!
• The appliance may only be used on dry, natural hair. Do not use on artificial hair!
  • The appliance is not suitable for straightening animal hair!
• The installation of a faulty current protective device with a rated breaking current offers you additional safety by ensuring that 30 mA will not be exceeded in the house installation. Let your installation electrician advise you!

• Remove the plug from the mains:

• if the unit does not function properly;

• before cleaning;
• after every use.
• Do not pull on the connecting cable and do not carry the unit by means of the cable!
  • The appliance is only intended for straightening and styling human hair.
• No liability is accepted for any damage resulting from use for other purposes, faulty operation or amateur repairs. Guarantee services are also excluded in such cases.
  • The appliance is not intended for professional purposes!
• Only specialists are allowed to do reparations. Improperly reparations can cause considerable danger!
• There is always risk of injury when using electrical appliances improperly!
• To prevent unintentional misuse, keep the appliance stored away in a safe place.
• Always disconnect the appliance from the mains and allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning and maintenance, or if faults occur during operation!
• Do not use the connecting cable to pull on the plug nor remove the plug from the socket with wet hands!

Warning! Risk of electric shock!

- Protect the appliance from moisture. Never put it into the dishwasher. Never immerse it in water!

Preparing the hair

• Wash and towel-dry your hair.
• Comb your hair thoroughly. Do not use hairspray or other flammable chemical hair care products.
• Place a hand towel around your neck to prevent the possibility of skin burns.

Switching on the appliance

- Use the locking disc f to open the appliance (see fig. 1). Insert the mains plug and switch on the appliance using the 0%/OFF switch b (see fig. 2). The temperature control lights 1-3 illuminate immediately, the 4th flashes until the appliance has reached its pre-set temperature of 160^ (see fig. 3).

The pre-set temperature is reached after approx. 1 minute.

Setting the temperature

- Select the suitable temperature for your hair type. Notes on this are found in the table below!

Setting lower temperature levels

- Press the - key repeatedly on the rocker switch c until the required

temperature level is set (fig. 4a). Minimum temperature 100°C.

Setting higher temperature levels

- Press the 1 key repeatedly on the rocker switch c until the required temperature level is set (fig. 4b). Maximum temperature 200^ .

Note!

- For every newly selected temperature level the respective control light, flashes until the temperature is reached. Higher temperature levels are reached in just a few seconds, a reduction of temperature level takes effect more slowly.

Warning! Risk of burning your hair if selected temperature is too high!

Depending on your hair type the wrongly selected temperature or improper use of the hair straightener puts your hair at risk of drying out or in the worst case burning. Listed below are the recommended temperature levels that should always be observed:

Always select the lowest temperature level (100°C) when using your hair straightener for the first time.

Select a low temperature level of approx. 120°C for blonde, bleached or colored hair.

Select a low (140°C) to medium (160°C) temperature level for normal and slightly wavy hair.

Select a medium (180°C) to high (200°C) temperature level for very thick, curly and hard to straighten hair.

Straightening long hair

Hold the appliance at the handle g, always at a safe distance from skin and eyes. Use a minor.

- Part your hair into approx. 4 cm strands.

- Hold the appliance in the hand as shown in fig. 5.

- Begin at the roots and lay the prepared strands one at a time between the straightening plates e (see fig. 5).

- Close the appliance and draw the hair straightener slowly from the roots through to the tips of your hair (see fig. 6). Repeat until your hair is as straight as you desire.

After finishing styling, let your hair cool down and then comb it through.

Straightening short hair

- Follow the instructions as for long hair, but instead of drawing the appliance through your hair, clamp the strands in the appliance for approx. 10 seconds.

Switching off the appliance

- Switch off the appliance using the ON/OFF switch b. Alternately automatic switch-off takes place after 60 minutes.

> Cleaning and maintenance

• Danger of electric shock! Switch off the unit before it is to be cleaned and pull out the plug.
• Danger of burns! It is essential to let the unit completely cool down.
• Before clearing, disconnect the appliance from the mains!
• Never immerse the appliance in water!
• Protect your appliance! Do not use sharp or abrasive cleaning agents!
• You can clean your appliance with a slightly damp cloth and dry it with a soft dry cloth!
• If the straightening plates get dirty, use a few drops of washing-up liquid to help clean them. Make sure that you remove all washing-up liquid residues from the straightening plates!

> Environment and Disposal

Never dispose of your appliance with the regular household waste. Follow the waste disposal regulations of your locality or return your appliance to the retailer.

> Guarantee

The guarantee covers this product for a period of 2 years, beginning on the date of original purchase. Use of the guarantee does not result in extension of the guarantee period. The guarantee covers manufacturing faults and material faults in original parts. This guarantee does not include normal wear and tear and damage to the product by accident or misuse, abuse, alteration to the product or use inconsistent with the technical and/or safety instructions required.

If your product requires repair, you should contact an authorized service dealer.

Never dispose of your appliance with the regular household waste. Follow the waste disposal regulations for your locality or return your appliance to the retailer. Retain the retailer's receipt as proof of purchase.
