USEFUL ADVICE

The original appearance and softness of velvet, wool or similar materials as well as glove and bags etc. can be restored by holding the iron a few cm above the fabric whilst pressing the steam button (8).
Carpets or rugs can be restored to new, eliminating marks left by furniture resting on them, by penetrating the flattened area with steam and then brushing lightly.
Never rest or use the iron on zips, hooks, rings etc. as this could scratch the plate.
The surface of the plate must be kept clean. To clean, wipe the cold surface with a damp cloth. Never treat the iron with decalcifiers.
After use, always wait for the iron to cool before putting it away.
Store the iron in a dry place.
After ironing, water left in the boiler need not be emptied.
Divide garments according to the required ironing temperature, starting with those which require the coolest temperature.
Silk can be dry ironed on the wrong side.
Wool, cotton and fine linen fabrics can be steam ironed on the wrong side or alternatively on the right side with a thin layer of material between the fabric to be ironed and the iron to avoid "shine". Starched fabrics require a higher humidity. Iron white and light fabrics on the right side and dark colours on the wrong side. Iron embroidery on the wrong side to make it stand out.
Linen can be steam ironed, steaming abundantly and ironing dark fabrics only on the wrong side to avoid "shine". Iron lapels, cuffs and turn-ups on the right side to make them stand out.
Each time you use the iron (and when you use it for the first time) or if you have not used steam for several minutes, push the steam button (8) repeatedly. This eliminates cold water from the steam circuit.

IMPORTANT

Read this instruction manual thoroughly before using the iron. This will ensure optimum results and maximum safety. Keep this booklet in a safe place for future reference.

SAFETYWARNINGS

Read the following safety warnings carefully:

  • Before use, check that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the rating plate of the appliance. Connect the appliance to efficiently earthed sockets with a minimum rating of 10A only.
  • In the event of incompatibility between the socket and the plug of the iron, have the plug replaced by qualified personnel.
The electrical safety of this appliance is guaranteed only when it is correctly connected to an efficient earth installation conforming to current electrical safety legislation. Failure to earth the appliance correctly absolves the manufacturer of all liability for damage. If in doubt, contact qualified personnel.
  • Do not leave the iron unsupervised when plugged into the power socket.
  • Never leave water in the appliance in temperatures of less than or equal to 0^ .
After unpacking, check the iron is undamaged. If in doubt, do not use the appliance. Contact qualified personnel.
  • Packaging (plastic bags, polystyrene, etc) must never be left within reach of children as it represents a hazard.
  • The use of adapters, multiple sockets and/or extensions is not recommended. If their use is unavoidable, use only simple or multiple adapters and extensions conforming to current safety legislation, making sure the power limit indicated on the adapter is not exceeded.
  • This appliance is intended for domestic use only. Any other use is considered improper and therefore dangerous.
  • In models with a steel tank, heating and cooling of the tank may produce noises due to the normal expansion of the stainless steel.
  • Improper, incorrect or unreasonable use and repairs carried out by unqualified personnel absolve the manufacturer of all liability for damage.
  • If the cap or the hydraulic and electrical safety system are damaged, have components replaced with original spare parts by qualified personnel.
  • For any repairs and for the replacement of the power cable, if damaged, contact your reseller or an authorised service centre, so as to ensure the effectiveness of your appliance and the validity of the guarantee.
DO NOT OPEN THE CAP WHEN USING THE APPLIANCE OR UNTIL THE APPLIANCE HAS RUN OUT OF WATER... The latter occurs when no more steam is released from the iron. To add water, unplug the appliance, and wait around 15 minutes to avoid rapid changes in temperature. Place a cloth on the cap and gradually unscrew it, allowing any residual steam to be released slowly.
  • ONLY use the iron pad supplied; in the event of damage, only use the ORIGINAL spare part.

When using any electrical appliance, a number of basic rules should be observed. IN PARTICULAR:

  • Never touch the appliance with wet or damp hands. Never immerse the appliance in water.
  • Never use the appliance in bath or shower rooms.
  • Never pull the power cable or appliance with wet or damp hands.
  • Never allow the appliance to be used unsupervised by children or unfit persons.
  • Never leave the appliance unsupervised and plugged into the mains as it could become a hazard.
  • Before cleaning or maintenance, always unplug the appliance from the mains.
In the case of malfunction and/or faulty operation, turn the appliance off and do not tamper. If repairs are required, contact a service centre authorised by the manufacturer only and ask for original spare parts to be used. Failure to respect the above may compromise the safety of the appliance.
If you decide to stop using the appliance, after unplugging from the mains, render it unusable by cutting the power cable.
  • The power cable of this appliance must never be replaced by the user. If the cable is damaged or requires replacing, contact a service centre authorised by the manufacturer only.
  • Never put the appliance under the tap to fill with water.
  • It is essential to avoid contact between the plate of the iron and the electric cable.
  • If the overheat protection device cuts in, the appliance stops working. To use it again, the intervention of professionally qualified personnel is required.
Aiming the steam jet at people is dangerous and should be avoided.
  • Avoid using the iron on over-wet fabrics.
After ironing, leave the plate to cool before putting the iron away.
  • Never mix stain removers or similar.
  • Do not leave the appliance plugged into the mains or the on/off switch turned on when the appliance is not in use.
  • The boiler must never be moved during operation.
  • Never unscrew the boiler cap when the appliance is plugged into the mains.
  • Do not allow the power cable to come into contact with the soleplate of the iron. Do not place the boiler on a surface which is uneven or susceptible to damage from high temperatures.
This appliance conforms to directive EEC 89/336 on the suppression of radio interference.

STEAM IRONING

Before steam ironing, make sure the fabric is suitable for this type of ironing. The appliance works with normal tap water. If the water has a high calcium content, you are recommended to use distilled water.

Filling the boiler and plugging into the mains

Before filling the boiler, make sure the appliance is unplugged from the mains. Remove the boiler cap (1) and fill the tank with water. This appliance is fitted with a special safety cap. To unscrew, press downwards and at the same time rotate anticlockwise. Replace the cap securely by pressing down and rotating it clockwise until it stops. Put the iron down flat on ist rest and plug in.

Important: Never unscrew the cap (1) when the boiler is under pressure.

Turning on

Press both switches (2 and 3) and they will light up to indicate that the boiler and iron are now on.

NB: when using the appliance for the first time, a smell may be given off due to heating and consequent drying of the sealants used when assembling the boiler and iron.

Operation

Select the required temperature by rotating the thermostat knob (10) to one of the segments (figure 1 A/B) (divide garments according to the required ironing temperature, starting with those which require the coolest temperature) according to the type of fabric to be ironed (figure 2). Wait for the "steam ready" light (5) to come on and the "iron hot" light (11) to go out before you start to iron.

NB: both lights will come on and go off during ironing according to the temperature reached by the boiler and iron. To generate steam, simply press the steam button (8). You can vary the quantity of the steam by using the steam regulator knob (4).

Some models have a "continuous steam" delivery button (9). This function is obtained by pressing the "continuous steam" delivery button (9) and moving the slide backwards so as to lock the button. To interrupt steam output, simply move the slide back to the original position.

The steam iron is powerful to iron vertically- clothes, curtains, overcoats, etc.

IMPORTANT: When switching on the iron, keep knob in the maximum steam output position.

WARNING: the iron-steam generator connecting hose may become hot.

Topping up water in the boiler

When the water in the tank runs out, the "no water" indicator light (6) comes on. To top up, proceed as follows.

  • Turn off the boiler using the "boiler on/off" button (2).
  • Discharge any residual steam by pressing the "steam output" button (8).
  • Turn the iron off by pressing the "iron on/off" button (3).
  • Unplug the appliance from the mains. Wait several minutes for it to cool.
  • Slowly unscrew the boiler cap (1) and top up as indicated in the paragraph "filling the boiler".

Pressure gauge (some models only)

The pressure gauge (7) enables boiler pressure to be kept under control.

It is divided into two coloured segments:

  • one blue and one red.

During normal operation, the pointer oscillates within the blue segment, according to boiler pressure.

If the pointer remains in the red segment, this indicates faulty operation of the iron.

In this case, turn the appliance off and contact an authorised service centre.

DRY IRONING

Plug the appliance into the mains.

Press the luminous "iron on/off" button (3) to power the iron. The "iron hot" indicator light (11) will comes on. Position the "thermostat regulation knob" (10) in one of the areas shown in figure 1A/B, according to the type of fabric to be ironed (see figure below). For dry ironing, do not use the steam control (8) or (9).

N.B.: when the iron has reached the selected temperature, the light (11) goes out.

MAINTENANCE

Always keep the soleplate of the iron clean, simply by wiping it when cold with a damp cloth. Do not use decalcifying agents.

STORAGE

After use, always place the iron flat on its rest, making sure it is free from condensation, and allow the appliance to cool down before you put it away. Any water remaining in the boiler does not need emptying (unless the room temperature in the place where it is stored is likely to reach freezing point!). If, for any reason, you wish to empty the boiler, make sure the appliance is unplugged and tip the water from the boiler. Keep the appliance in a dry place.
