SPECIAL INSTRUCTION

  1. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate a high wattage appliance on the same circuit.
  2. If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a cord with an ampere rating equal to or greater than the maximum rating of the iron shall be used. A cord rated for less amperage can result in a risk of fire or electric shock due to overheating. Care shall be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or be tripped over.
  3. After removing the packing, make sure the appliance is not damaged. If in doubt do not use the appliance and contact an authorized Customer Service Center.

USING THE APPLIANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME

  • The first time you use the iron, remove the plate protection (if present).
  • When used for the first time, the appliance may give off smoke and an odor for several minutes. This is caused by heating and subsequent drying of the sealers used in assembling the appliance. You are recommended to ventilate the room.

PREPARATIONS FOR USE

What water to use

The machine works with normal tap water.

If the water is very hard, we recommend using demineralized water diluted 50/50 with tap water.

Never use distilled water alone.

Never use chemical substances or detergents (e.g. perfumed water, essences, descaling solutions, etc).

Filling the tank

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - Filling the tank - 1

Danger!

It is important that the iron is always unplugged from the outlet every time you fill up the water tank.

Make sure the appliance is unplugged from the outlet.
- Make sure the steam regulator D is in the position ("dry") (fig. 1).
- Open the tank fill hole cap C.
- Fill the measure to the level mark (300 ml), then pour the water into the iron (fig. 2).
- Close the tank fill hole cap.

Adjusting plate temperature.

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - Adjusting plate temperature. - 1

Please note:

On the back of the iron there is a useful guide giving information on the temperature to set according to the garment being ironed:

SINTETICI/SYNTHETICS

SYNTHETIQUE/SYNTHETISCH

SETA/SILK/SOIE/SEIDE

Plug the iron into the outlet. (Models with auto-off only: the light F comes on to indicate that the appliance is connected to an electricity supply.)
The "steam ready" light G comes on.
- Select the required temperature by turning the thermostat knob H (fig. 3).
After about a minute (for maximum temperature), the steam ready light "G" goes off to indicate that the iron is ready for use.

STEAM IRONING

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - STEAM IRONING - 1

Please note:

Before steam ironing, make sure the fabric is suitable for this kind of ironing.

Remember that the steam function can

only be used when the thermostat is on the segment indicated by the steam symbol.

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - Please note: - 1

  • Fill the tank and set plate temperature as described above.
  • Move the steam regulator to select the required amount of steam:
  • Wait for the "steam ready" light G to go off.

To discharge steam, just place the iron in a horizontal position.

Steam stops when the iron is placed upright on the rear rest (the recommended position during pauses in ironing).

DRY IRONING

  • Set plate temperature as described above.
  • Move the steam regulator to the H_2 position ("dry").
  • Wait for the "steam ready" light G to go off.

The iron is ready to use.

If the fabric to be ironed is slightly damp or you iron fast, you can use a higher temperature. If, on the other hand, the garments are dry or you iron slowly, you are recommended to use a lower temperature.

VERTICAL IRONING

This function enables delicate garments to be steamed without resting them on the ironing board. Pay particular attention to the temperature when steaming curtains.

  • Make sure the steam regulator D is in the 空 position ("dry") (fig. 1).
  • Set plate temperature to MAX.
  • Wait for the "steam ready" light G to go off.
  • Hold the iron vertically and move it near the garment.
Press and release the Turbo button (L).

For correct vertical ironing, wait a few seconds between one burst of steam and the next until the "steam ready" light G goes off.

Danger of burns!

Never direct the "vertical" steam jet at a garment hanging in a wardrobe or worn by a person.

Vertical ironing should always be carried out with the garment hanging on a clothes stand and always away from other garments, elements, people and animals.

TURBO FUNCTION

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - TURBO FUNCTION - 1

Press this button to obtain a powerful jet of steam, useful to eliminate creases.

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - TURBO FUNCTION - 2

  • Set plate temperature to MAX.
  • Move the steam regulator to the steam position.
  • Wait for the "steam ready" light G to go off.
Press and release the Turbo button (L).

To use the turbo function correctly, wait a few seconds between one burst of steam and the next.

SPRAY BUTTON

If during ironing, you note particularly resistant creases or if your garment requires a higher level of dampness, you can use the spray.

  • Fill the tank and set plate temperature as described above.
  • Press the spray button (E) repeatedly, directing the spray jet towards the parts of the garment to be dampened. Never use the spray when ironing silk as the drops of water could mark the fabric.

NO-DRIP SYSTEM

NO DRIP

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - NO-DRIP SYSTEM - 1

This iron has a no-drip system which automatically shuts off steam production when the temperature is set too low.

During operation, the device may emit creaking noises as the iron heats up and cools down.

This is perfectly normal and part of correct operation.

AUTO OFF

AUTO-OFF

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - AUTO-OFF - 1

  • If the iron is left unused in a horizontal position for 30 seconds, it goes off automatically.
If the iron is not used in an upright position, the auto-off

device trips after 8 minutes.

The light (F) flashes to indicate auto-off. To begin ironing again, shake the iron slightly forwards until the light (F) comes on steadily.

AFTER IRONING

To extend the working life of the iron, whenever you finish ironing, you are recommended to empty the tank as follows:

Unplug the iron from the outlet.
- Empty the iron by holding it tip downwards and shaking it gently over a basin or sink.
- To dry residual moisture, turn the iron on again with the thermostat at maximum for about 2 minutes.
Unplug the iron from the outlet and allow to cool.
- Clean the plate with a dry cloth as traces of moisture could mark it.
Wind the power cable.
- Store the iron in an upright position.

Cleaning and maintenance

After use, always wait until the iron is cold before putting away. Leave to cool in an upright position.

  • Keep the surface of the plate clean.
  • Clean the plate with a damp cloth only, never use abrasives or solvents.
  • Do not rest or use the iron on zips, hooks, rings etc. to avoid scratching the soleplate.

Limescale prevention

DELONGHI FXG 175 AT - Limescale prevention - 1

and SELF CLEAN

The resin filter installed in the tank filters impurities, thus ensuring constant steam delivery during ironing.

The resin softens the water and improves the long term performance of the iron.

However, if the amount of stream drops during use, this could be caused by a build-up of limescale.

To remove, proceed as follows:

  • Fill the tank.
  • Plug the appliance into the outlet and place the thermostat in the MAX position.
  • When the iron has reached the required temperature (light off), unplug the appliance.
  • Place over a sink and in a horizontal position.
Press the SELF CLEAN I button and hold it down.
  • Shake the appliance gently to drain the water in the tank through the plate, taking the impurities with it.
  • Release the SELF CLEAN button.
  • Plug the appliance into the outlet and leave in operation for at least two minutes to dry the plate.
After this time, unplug the appliance from the outlet.
  • Leave the iron to cool and clean the outside with a soft cloth.
