Introduction
Welcome to Kramer Electronics! Since 1981, Kramer Electronics has been providing a world of unique, creative, and affordable solutions to the vast range of problems that confront the video, audio, presentation, and broadcasting professional on a daily basis. In recent years, we have redesigned and upgraded most of our line, making the best even better!
Getting Started
We recommend that you:
- Unpack the equipment carefully and save the original box and packaging materials for possible future shipment.
- Review the contents of this user manual.

Go to www.kramerav.com/downloads/TP-873XR or www.kramerav.com/downloads/TP-874XR to check for up-to-date user manuals, application programs, and to check if firmware upgrades are available (where appropriate).
Achieving the Best Performance
- Use only good quality connection cables (we recommend Kramer high-performance, high-resolution cables) to avoid interference, deterioration in signal quality due to poor matching, and elevated noise levels (often associated with low quality cables).
- Do not secure the cables in tight bundles or roll the slack into tight coils.
- Avoid interference from neighboring electrical appliances that may adversely influence signal quality.
- Position your Kramer TP-873XR or TP-874XR away from moisture, excessive sunlight and dust.
Safety Instructions

Caution:
- This equipment is to be used only inside a building. It may only be connected to other equipment that is installed inside a building.
- For products with relay terminals and GPI\O ports, please refer to the permitted rating for an external connection, located next to the terminal or in the User Manual.
- There are no operator serviceable parts inside the unit.

Warning:
- Use only the power cord that is supplied with the unit.
- To ensure continuous risk protection, replace fuses only according to the rating specified on the product label which located on the bottom of the unit.
Recycling Kramer Products
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC aims to reduce the amount of WEEE sent for disposal to landfill or incineration by requiring it to be collected and recycled. To comply with the WEEE Directive, Kramer Electronics has made arrangements with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of waste Kramer Electronics branded equipment on arrival at the EARN facility. For details of Kramer's recycling arrangements in your particular country go to our recycling pages at www.kramerav.com/support/recycling.
Overview
Congratulations on purchasing your Kramer TP-873XR HDMI 4K Line Transmitter and TP-874XR HDMI 4K Line Receiver.
TP-873XR and TP-874XR are a high-performance, long-reach DGKat™ 2.0 transmitter and receiver for 4K@60Hz (4:4:4) HDR HDCP 2.2 signals, RS-232 and IR signals and 2-way powering over twisted pair.
TP-873XR converts the HDMI ^™ , RS-232 and IR input signals into a DGKat ^™ 2.0 signal and transmits it to the receiver. TP-874XR converts the transmitted DGKat ^™ 2.0 signal into HDMI, RS-232 and IR signals.
TP-873XR and TP-874XR extend video signals to up to 50m (160ft) at 4K@60Hz (4:4:4) resolution and up to 70m (230ft) at 4K@30Hz (4:4:4) 24bpp resolution over Kramer shielded cables.
TP-873XR and TP-874XR provide exceptional quality, and advanced and user-friendly operation.
Exceptional Quality
- High Performance Extender – Professional DGKat™ 2.0 for providing long-reach signals and 2-way power over twisted pair copper infrastructures. Figure 3: Connecting to the TP-873XR/TP-874XR Rear Panel
To connect the TP-873XR/TP-874XR as illustrated in the example in Figure 3:
- On TP-873XR, connect an HDMI source (for example, a 4K Blu-ray player) to the HDMI™ IN connector ④
- On TP-874XR, connect the HDMI ^™ OUT connector ⑬ to an acceptor (for example, a 4K display).
- Connect the TP-873XR DGKAT-2 OUT RJ-45 connector ⑤ to the TP-874XR DGKAT-2 IN RJ-45 connector ⑭
-
Connect IR extension:
-
On TP-873XR connect the IR 3.5mm mini jack ⑦ to an IR emitter and connect it to the Blu-ray IR sensor.
-
On TP-874XR connect the IR 3.5mm mini jack ⑯ to an IR sensor. Point the Blu-ray IR remote control transmitter to that IR sensor to send commands to the Blu-ray player via DGKat 2.0.
-
Connect RS-232 extension:
-
On TP-873XR connect a controller (for example, SL-240C room controller) to the RS-232 3-pin terminal block connector ⑧
-
On TP-874XR connect the RS-232 3-pin terminal block connector ⑰ to the display.
-
Connect the power adapter to the TP-873XR power connector ⑨ and to the mains electricity.

You can connect the power adapter to either the transmitter or the receiver since DGKat 2.0 passes power bidirectionally.
This example shows the power adapter connected to TP-873XR but you can connect the power adapter to the receiver instead.
Connecting to TP-873XR/TP-874XR via RS-232
You can connect to the TP-873XR/TP-874XR via an RS-232 connection ⑬ using, for example, a PC.
The TP-873XR/TP-874XR features an RS-232 3-pin terminal block connector allowing the RS-232 to control the TP-873XR/TP-874XR.
Connect the RS-232 terminal block on the rear panel of the TP-873XR/TP-874XR to a PC/controller, as follows:
From the RS-232 9-pin D-sub serial port connect:
- Pin 2 to the TX pin on the TP-873XR/TP-874XR RS-232 terminal block
- Pin 3 to the RX pin on the TP-873XR/TP-874XR RS-232 terminal block
- Pin 5 to the G pin on the TP-873XR/TP-874XR RS-232 terminal block

Two types of electrical connectors: a gray connector with a cable and a black-and-white package labeled 12345678 (no text or symbols on the packages themselves)We highly recommend using only Kramer UNIKAT cables with these products. If using 3 ^rd party shielded CAT-6A cables, both ends of the shield must be soldered to the connectors for the products to function properly. Do not use any jumpers, unshielded wall plates or mid-span cable connections. These extenders are not compatible with HDBaseT technologies. Prior to signal extension, ensure that the extension line cable is lying straight and not coiled.
Setting the DIP-Switches
The DIP-switches are used to:
- Set the compression levels.
• Determine IR frequency mode. - Enable RS-232 signal extension.
- Upgrade the firmware.
