100 SERIES

OWNERS MANUAL

Introduction

Congratulations on choosing the Acoustic Energy 100 Series, speakers designed to offer extremely high performance and technical ability.

The 100 Series has been engineered to offer neutral balance, low-distortion and high power handling with as little cabinet colouration as possible. Combined with wide output slot rear-porting, the 100 Series are extremely flexible loudspeakers for use in any room or position in the home.

Please take a little time to read through this manual and follow, as far as practical, the installation guidelines it contains. Careful installation will help ensure your 100 Series speakers perform optimally and offer many years of listening enjoyment.

Should you have any questions not covered here or need more in-depth set-up advice we are happy to try adn answer your queries wither by telephone or email. Contact information can be found on the back of this manual.

The 100 Series are very flexible with regards to positioning and are designed to work well wherever they are located within the listening environment. There are however some basic guidelines that should be followed (where possible) for optimum performance.

The tweeters (high frequency drivers, N/A to subwoofer) should ideally be at ear level when the listener is seated and for serious listening the grilles are best removed when practical. The AE107 ^2 may require placement lower if used with a screen in a typical A/V layout.

Rigid support is necessary for the speakers to deliver optimum dynamic response and detail, the AE100 ^2 and AE107 ^2 benefit from either good stands or a solid surface below them. The AE109 ^2 , AE120 ^2 and AE108 ^2 should be used with their floor spikes where possible. Extra coupling can be achieved with standard mounting tack used to secure placement.

Room positioning: The 100 Series speakers are all "room-friendly" models and should be able to be placed where most convenient with minimal detriment to sound. Where possible a minimum of 6^ (15cm) of space should be allowed between the speakers and the boundary walls. Stereo models should be the same distance from each other as the listening position.

The AE105 can be mounted to a wall and can be positioned either vertically or horizontally. It is also suitable for mounting on a shelf or flush mounted in a bookcase. Optimum performance is achieved by mounting the AE105 vertically and listening below the tweeter axis. Due to the way it has been designed, mounting them high on a wall either side of a screen and listening from a seated position around 0.5m below the tweeter axis will produce a very even, balanced sound.

Experiment and listen to what works best for you, trust your own ears and judgement.

Check that your amplifier is switched off before installing your loudspeakers. Failure to do so may result in speakr or amplifier damage.

The positive cable from the amplifier positive (or red) terminal should connect to the (red) terminal on the loudspeaker. Similarly the negative cable should connect the amplifier negative terminal (black) to the negative terminal (black) on the loudspeaker.

After wiring up, lower the volume to the minimum, switch on the amplifier, select the signal source and then raise the volume to the listening level required.
