Frequently Asked Questions - Canterbury RUSSELL HOBBS

How do I descale the kettle?
Descale at least monthly, even in soft water areas. Use a descaler suitable for plastic products. Follow the descaler instructions, rinse several times, then fill, boil, and discard the water to remove residues.
Can I use the kettle without water?
No, the kettle has a boil-dry cut-out that will switch it off if insufficient water is present. However, this may shorten the element's life. Always ensure at least 2 cups of water are inside before switching on.
How do I clean the water filter?
Turn off and cool the kettle. Open the lid, push the top of the filter down and back to release the hooks, then lift out. Rinse under running water with a soft brush. Reinsert by engaging the bottom hook, then press the top down and forward to lock.
What should I do if the kettle doesn't switch off?
Check that the lid is fully closed. If the lid is open, the kettle may not switch off. Ensure the lid is locked before use. If the problem persists, contact Customer Service.
Can I submerge the kettle or stand in water?
No, do not put the kettle, stand, cable, or plug in liquid. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth only. Keep all connectors dry.
How do I register for the extra year guarantee?
Visit www.productregister.co.uk/rhobbs within 28 days of purchase. You will be entered into a prize draw and receive an extra year guarantee and free rewards gallery access.
What should I do if the kettle is not working?
Check the instructions, plug fuse, and main fuse/circuit breaker. If still not working, consult your retailer. If unresolved, call Customer Service at 0845 658 9700 or email support@russellhobbs.com.
Is the kettle safe for children to use?
Children aged 8 years and above can use the kettle if supervised and instructed on safe use. Children should not play with the appliance. Keep the kettle and cable out of reach of children under 8.
Why is there moisture on the stand after boiling?
This is normal. The steam used to switch off the kettle automatically condenses and escapes via vents under the kettle. Allow it to dry; it does not indicate a fault.
How can I avoid the kettle spitting boiling water?
Do not overfill above the max mark. Pour slowly and do not over-tilt the kettle. Ensure the lid is locked before switching on. If overfilled, boiling water may spit.

DESCALE – EVEN IN SOFT WATER AREAS

7 Limescale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking, but it's normally visible.
8 Phosphate scale isn't generally visible, but it's there, even in soft water areas.
9 All scale causes overheating, reduces the kettle's life, and may trigger the boil-dry cut-out.

10 So, even with soft water, descale at least monthly, to help keep your kettle in working order.

11 Use a descaler suitable for plastic products (all kettles have plastic parts).

12 Follow the instructions provided with the descaler, rinse several times, then fill, boil and discard the water, to ensure no residues are left.

Products returned under guarantee with faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.

WATER FILTER

13 Scale particles suspended in the water may give it a cloudy or greasy appearance. The filter will prevent these particles going into your drink. If you see deposits on the filter, clean it, otherwise the performance of your kettle will drop, your drinks may contain scale, and the water inside the kettle may look cloudy.
