Frequently Asked Questions - USB32HDEH3 StarTech.com

How do I install the USB32HDEH3 adapter?
Connect the adapter to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. For video output, install the latest DisplayLink driver from the StarTech.com website. For the Ethernet and USB hub functions, drivers are automatically installed on Windows and macOS.
What video resolutions does it support?
It supports HDMI output up to 2048x1152 at 60 Hz. Lower resolutions like 1920x1080 and 1280x720 are also supported.
Can I use this adapter with a USB 2.0 port?
Yes, but performance will be limited. Video output may be restricted to lower resolutions and USB 3.0 ports will operate at USB 2.0 speeds. Gigabit Ethernet will also be slower.
Does it support multiple monitors?
Yes, you can add an external monitor via the HDMI port. With multiple adapters, you can connect several monitors, depending on your system's DisplayLink capabilities.
What is the maximum Ethernet speed?
The adapter supports Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) when connected to a USB 3.0 port. Actual speeds depend on network conditions.
Is external power required?
Most setups are bus-powered via USB 3.0. If you experience unstable operation, use the optional 5V DC power adapter (not included) for additional power.
Does this adapter work with macOS?
Yes, it is compatible with macOS 10.8 and later. Install the DisplayLink driver for macOS from the StarTech.com support page.
Can I use the USB ports for charging?
Yes, the USB 3.0 ports can charge devices, but charging speed is limited compared to dedicated chargers. For fast charging, use the optional power adapter.
What if the adapter is not recognized?
Try a different USB port, reinstall the DisplayLink driver, or check for Windows/macOS updates. If the issue persists, test with another computer to rule out hardware failure.
How do I clean the adapter?
Unplug the adapter and wipe it gently with a dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using liquids, sprays, or abrasive materials that could damage the device.
