Frequently Asked Questions - KD-FIX418A-2 Key Digital

How do I de-embed audio from HDMI using the KD-FIX418A-2?
Connect your HDMI source to the input. The audio is de-embedded automatically to the 3.5mm stereo (analog) and optical digital outputs. Use the EDID rotary to select the desired audio format (e.g., 2CH, Dolby/DTS, HD Audio) so the source outputs matching audio.
What is the EDID rotary for and how do I set it?
The EDID rotary selects a handshake that tells your HDMI source which video and audio formats to output. Refer to the manual's table: positions 0 (copy from display), 1-6 for 1080p, 7-C for 4K with HDR, D-F for other modes. Turn it while the system is powered; most sources adapt without reboot.
Why is there no picture on my display?
Check that hot plug detection (HPD) is active. If the source doesn't see a display, enable the Forced HPD switch. Also verify the EDID setting matches your display's capability. Ensure all cables are securely connected and the power supply is plugged in.
Can I use this device to convert 4K to 1080p?
Yes. Set the 4K to 1080p Down Convert slide switch to ON. When enabled, incoming 4K content is down-converted to 1080p. Non-4K content passes through unchanged.
Does the KD-FIX418A-2 support HDCP 2.2?
Yes, it is fully licensed and compatible with HDCP 2.2 and earlier versions. This ensures secure playback of protected content.
What power supply do I need?
Use the included 5V/1A DC power supply (model SK01T-0500100Z) with a screw-in connector. Using a different adapter may void the warranty and risk damage.
What are the dimensions and weight of the device?
The unit measures 3.78 x 2.52 x 0.93 inches (94 x 64 x 23.5 mm) and weighs 5.4 oz (152 g). It is compact for easy mounting.
How do I mount the KD-FIX418A-2?
Use the included L-brackets to attach the unit to a surface. Alternatively, several units can be mounted in the optional KD-SMS16 shelf using side screws. Do not exceed 12 units to avoid overheating.
What audio formats are supported on the optical output?
The optical output supports PCM 2ch, Dolby Digital, DTS 5.1, and HD audio formats (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio). Multi-channel PCM is not passed on digital output; it is muted. Use the EDID to select the appropriate audio format.
Is there a warranty on the KD-FIX418A-2?
Yes, Key Digital provides a limited 3-year product warranty. For service, obtain an RMA number by contacting rma@keydigital.com or calling 914-667-9700.

4K → 1080p Forced HPD OFF ON OFF ON

Forced HPD Troubleshooting Tool:

In cases of many layers of connectivity or non-standard devices in-line, hot plug detection (HPD) may be lost or drop below standard levels, leading to the video source not detecting a display/sync device and not outputting a signal. A display device may also not detect a connected source in cases of failed hot plug detection.

When ON, Hot Plug Detection voltage is fixed ON to the connected source, informing it that it always has a live sync/display to receive its signal

Standard HPD behavior (bypass) when set to OFF position

4K → 1080p OFF ON Forced HPD OFF ON

4K to 1080p Down Convert Tool:

When set to ON, KD-FIX418A-2 will down convert incoming 4K content to 1080p. All non-4K incoming content passes through without resolution conversion.
When set to OFF, all incoming content passes through without resolution conversion.
