Frequently Asked Questions - FERRARI 5000 ACER

What to do if the computer does not turn on?
Check the power indicator. If it is off, make sure the battery is charged or the AC adapter is plugged in. If it is on, try removing any non-system diskette from the USB drive and restart with Ctrl+Alt+Del.
The screen remains black, what to do?
The computer may be in sleep mode: press any key. If nothing happens, increase the brightness with Fn+Right Arrow, check if the display is switched to an external monitor (use Fn+F5), or press the power button to exit sleep mode.
How to make the image display full screen?
The screen has a native resolution. If you are using a lower resolution, the image may not fill the screen. Right-click on the desktop, choose Properties > Settings, and set the resolution to the recommended value (e.g. 1680 x 1050 or 1280 x 800).
No sound comes out of the computer.
Check that the sound is not muted: look at the speaker icon in the taskbar (it should not be crossed out). Increase the volume with the Fn+Up Arrow keys. If headphones are plugged in, the internal speakers are automatically disabled.
How to eject a disc from the optical drive without turning on the computer?
The slot-load drive does not have a mechanical eject hole. If the computer is off, you must turn it on to eject the disc. For tray-load drives, a manual eject hole exists: insert a straightened paper clip into the hole.
The keyboard is not responding.
Plug in an external USB keyboard. If it works, the internal keyboard cable may be disconnected: contact a dealer or authorized service center.
The printer does not work.
Check that the printer is turned on and connected to the computer (USB or parallel port). Make sure the cable is properly plugged in and the drivers are installed.
How to configure the dialing location for the modem?
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Modems and Telephony Options. Click on Dialing Properties and enter your location (area code, access number, etc.). See Windows help for more details.
How to restore the computer to factory settings without a CD?
Restart the computer. When the Acer logo appears, press Alt+F10 to launch the Acer eRecovery Management utility. Follow the on-screen instructions. Caution: This operation reformats the C: drive and erases all data.
What to do in case of a CMOS battery bad error message?
This message indicates that the CMOS battery is failing. Contact your dealer or an authorized service center to replace it.
