CONNECTIONS
Ensure that the POWER SWITCH (1) is in the OFF position prior to making any connections. This unit comes with a power cord. Plug into the rear panel POWER CORD (2) jack before plugging it into a proper power source.
-
The PS4 has 3 stereo outputs located on the rear panel:
-
The MASTER RCA OUTPUT (3) connects the mixer to your main amplifier using standard audio cables with RCA-type connectors.
- The REC (4) output jacks can be used to connect the mixer to the record input of your recording unit, thus enabling you to record your mix with RCA cables.
-
The BALANCED XLR OUTPUT (8) connects the mixer to your main amplifier using XLR cables providing a balanced connection controlled by the MASTER VOLUME (21) rotary.
-
Headphones may be plugged into the front panel-mounted HEADPHONE (5) 1/4" jack.
- Microphones may be plugged into the rear panel-mounted MICROPHONE (6) 1/4" jack.
- The PS4 has 2 PHONO (PH/LN) and 5 LINE RCA INPUTS each channel has two corresponding lines and can be chosen via the CHANNEL SOURCE SELECT SWITCH (10). When switched to the PH position you may use any Turntable with a magnetic cartridge, remember to connect your ground wire (see GROUNDING SCREW) or there may be a system hum. When the switch is in the LN position you may connect any line level device as described before (MP3, CD, etc).
NOTE: CONNECTING A LINE LEVEL DEVICE TO A PH INPUT MAY CAUSE THAT MIXER CHANNEL TO OVERLOAD AND OR DISTORT.
- When using (a) turntable(s), you will need to ground the RCA cable(s) by screwing in the grounding fork(s) to the GROUNDING SCREW (9) located in the rear panel of the PS4 mixer. Attach each PH ground line to the GROUND THUMB SCREW (9).
CONTROLS
-
Once all of your connections have been made in the rear panel, turn on the mixer by pressing the POWER SWITCH(1).
-
The CHANNEL SOURCE SELECTOR (10) switches allow you to choose which input will be controlled by that channels corresponding volume FADER. For example on CHANNEL (1) the source selector allows you to choose between PHONO 1 and LINE 1, on CHANNEL (2) the source selector will let you choose between PHONO 2 and LINE 2 and on CHANNEL (3) you can choose between LINE 3 and the LINE 4 input, and on CHANNEL (4) you can choose between LINE 5 and MIC 2.
-
The CHANNEL ROTARY GAIN (12) allows you to boost the signal of each individual channel depending on how low or high its input level is. The CHANNEL FADER (11) allows you to set the corresponding channel's volume in the mix.
NOTE: FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE, BEGIN PROGRAM MIX WITH ROTARY GAIN (8) CONTROLS SET TO MINIMUM (ROTATE IT COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO THE COUNTER CLOCKWISE POSITION). MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS IN SOUND OUTPUT WITH THE USE OF YOUR CHANNEL SLIDE CONTROLS AND MASTER (11) VOLUME ROTARY CONTROLS. THIS WILL PREVENT SIGNAL OVERLOAD AND DECREASE DISTORTION. ONCE YOU HAVE MODIFIED YOUR SOUND AND WOULD LIKE TO INCREASE THE OUTPUT OF YOUR SOUND, THEN YOU MAY ADJUST THE ROTARY GAIN CONTROL IF NEEDED.
-
The 3 BAND EQUALIZER adjust the tone of each CHANNEL by giving you a choice 3 frequencies (BANDS) to adjust, from LOW (15), MID (14) and HIGH (13), you can use the adjustment knobs to higher or lower the 3 separate frequencies till the sound of the music program is appropriate for your listening environment.
-
CUE: By connecting a set of headphones to the HEADPHONE (5) jack, you can monitor any or all channels.
The CHANNEL CUE ASSIGN (16) allows you to choose which channel you wish to monitor in your headphones by pressing this switch on any channel you will be able to listen to that channels input in your headphones. Multiple CHANNEL CUE ASSIGNs can be pressed to monitor more than on input at a time.
Use the face panel located rotary CUE VOLUME
CONTROL (17) to adjust the CUE volume without changing the overall mix. By turning the face panel located CUE/MIX/PGM ROTARY CONTROL (18) counter clockwise you will be able to monitor the assigned cue signal. Slowly turning the control clockwise to middle position allows you to monitor CUE MIX with PGM. Moving the control clockwise to the right allows you to monitor PGM (Main) output.
- CROSS FADER SECTION: The CROSS FADER (19) allows you to mix from one source to another. The CROSS FADER (19) in your unit is removable and if the need arises can be easily replaced.
NOTE: DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE WHILE USING THE CROSS FADER (19). LIGHTLY GLIDE THE CROSSFADER BACK AND FORTH. PRESSING DOWN ON THE CONTROLS CAN BEND CONTACTS AND CAUSE A LOSS OF SOUND.
-
OUTPUT SELECTION CONTROL: Once you are comfortable with the sound level of your music you may adjust the volume with the MASTER (21) rotary control.
-
MIC SECTION: Plug your main MIC into either of the MIC 1/4" inputs (6) located on the top or rear panel. You can use the Mic Gain Control (22) as well as the HIGH (23) and LOW (24) controls to adjust the volume and tone of the microphone signal. The MIC TALKOVER SWITCH (27) allows you to quickly attenuate the main output so the microphone can be heard over the main music program.
-
VU METER: The PS4 has a dual mode VU ME-TER (25) that allows you to monitor the decibel levels of CUE and PGM or LEFT and RIGHT stereo levels of the MASTER output. With the VU MODE SWITCH (26) you may monitor the output level of the CUE and PGM when the switch is UP. When this mode is engaged the CUE will be located on the left of the VU METER, while the PGM will be located on the RIGHT. Or you can monitor the LEFT and RIGHT stereo decibel levels of the MASTER OUTPUT when the switch is in the DOWN position.
The PS4 also has VU METERs on each channel that allows you to monitor the decibel levels of its input.
