Frequently Asked Questions - DFS1308J DE DIETRICH

How do I start the freezer for the first time?
Insert the plug, turn the thermostat knob clockwise past 'O'. The green pilot light will illuminate. The red warning light will blink and an alarm will sound. Press the fast freeze button (4) to stop the alarm, then press it again to activate the quick freeze function (yellow light on). The freezer will start operating. After a few hours, the red light will turn off when the safe temperature is reached.
What is the recommended temperature setting?
A medium setting is generally the most suitable for everyday use. The internal temperature must be at least -18°C or colder to safely store frozen food. Adjust the thermostat knob accordingly: lower numbers are less cold, higher numbers are coldest.
How do I use the quick freeze function?
Press the fast freeze switch (4). The yellow pilot lamp will light up. The appliance will automatically switch off the quick freeze function after 52 hours. You can also end it manually by pressing the button again. For freezing fresh food, run the freezer on quick freeze for at least 3 hours before adding food (or 24 hours if already in use).
What does the red warning light and acoustic alarm mean?
The red warning light blinks when the freezer temperature is too high for safe food storage. This happens when the freezer is first switched on, after frequent door openings, or during power failures. The acoustic alarm can be temporarily stopped by pressing the fast freeze button (4). If the light remains on, check the temperature and ensure the door is closed.
How long can frozen food be stored in case of a power failure?
If the power cut lasts up to 20 hours and the freezer is full, frozen food will not be affected provided the door remains closed. After that, the food should be used within a short time as the safe storage period shortens with temperature increase.
How do I defrost the freezer?
When frost exceeds 1/4 inch, remove food, wrap in newspaper, and store in a cool place. Turn the thermostat to 'O', leave the door open, and remove drawers. Use the plastic scraper to remove frost. Do not use metal objects. Once defrosted, remove water from the bottom drawer, dry interior, then reset the thermostat to a medium setting and run quick freeze for 2 hours before returning food.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes, the door is reversible. Follow the instructions in the manual to reverse the door. If the ambient temperature is cold, the gasket may not fit perfectly initially; wait for natural fitting or use a hairdryer to warm the gasket.
What should I do if the appliance is not working?
First, check that the plug is firmly inserted and the mains power is on. Ensure the thermostat knob is not at 'O'. Try plugging another appliance to verify power supply. If it still doesn't work, contact the nearest authorized Service Centre with the model and serial number found on the rating plate (lower left inside).
How should I clean the freezer?
Unplug the appliance. Clean the interior with lukewarm water and bicarbonate of soda. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not use detergents or abrasive powders. The ventilation grid should be kept clean to ensure good performance.
What are the important safety precautions?
Do not use sharp instruments to remove frost. Do not refreeze thawed food. Avoid placing carbonated drinks in the freezer. Always unplug before cleaning. The appliance contains hydrocarbons; maintenance must be done by authorized technicians. Ensure proper ventilation and do not block the ventilation openings.
