Frequently Asked Questions - BLM8G44C19U4BL Crucial

How do I install the Crucial BLM8G44C19U4BL memory module?
First, ensure you are in a static-safe environment. Power down and unplug your system, then hold the power button for 3-5 seconds to discharge residual electricity. For laptops, remove the battery. Touch an unpainted metal surface to ground yourself. Locate the memory slots, align the notch on the module with the slot, and press firmly until the clips snap into place. For SODIMMs, insert at a 45-degree angle then press down. Refer to your system's owner's manual for details.
What tools do I need for installation?
You only need a non-magnetic-tip screwdriver to remove the computer cover. Do not use any tools to install the memory module itself; it should be pressed in by hand. Your system's owner's manual is also helpful.
What is the correct orientation for inserting the memory module?
The module has a notch in the gold contact area that aligns with a key in the slot. Ensure the notch matches before pressing down. For DIMMs, press straight down; for SODIMMs, insert at a 45-degree angle then press down until the clips engage.
My system does not boot after installation. What should I check?
First, verify the module is fully seated: remove and reinstall it, applying firm pressure until the clips lock. Check all internal connections (e.g., hard drive cables) as they may have been dislodged. If you hear beeps, the memory may not be recognized. If problems persist, contact Crucial Technical Support.
Will I need to change BIOS settings after installing this memory?
Often the system will automatically detect the new memory. However, if you see a 'memory mismatch' or 'configuration updated' message, enter the BIOS setup and select 'Save and Exit' to apply the new settings. Some high-speed modules may require enabling XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) in BIOS to run at rated speeds.
Is the Crucial BLM8G44C19U4BL compatible with my laptop?
This model is a 288-pin DIMM designed for desktop computers. For laptops, you need a SODIMM form factor. Check your laptop's specifications for the correct memory type (typically DDR4 SODIMM). This specific module is not intended for laptops.
What does the model number BLM8G44C19U4BL mean?
BLM stands for Ballistix memory; 8 indicates 8GB capacity; 44 denotes 4400MHz speed; 19 is CAS latency CL19; U4 likely indicates unregistered (non-ECC) and 4th generation; BL may refer to the color or design. It is a high-performance DDR4 desktop module.
Can I mix this memory module with other brands or speeds?
While it is possible, mixing different memory modules can lead to system instability or reduced performance. For best results, use identical modules from the same kit. If mixing, the system will run at the lowest common speed and timings.
How do I clean the memory module?
Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the heat spreader. Avoid applying liquids directly. If the gold contacts become dirty, use a pencil eraser (non-abrasive) to lightly clean them, then wipe with a lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive materials.

Install Guide

Memory Module Installation

Equipment needed

  • Memory module(s)
  • Non-magnetic-tip screwdriver (for removing the cover on your computer)
  • Your system’s owner’s manual

Installation process

  1. Make sure that you are working in a static-safe environment. Remove any plastic bags or papers from your work space.
  2. Shut down your system and make sure the power is completely off before unplugging the power cable from your computer. For laptops, then remove the battery.
  3. Hold the power button for 3–5 seconds to discharge residual electricity.
  4. Remove your computer's cover. Refer to your owner's manual for how to do this.

  5. To protect your new memory modules and your system's components from static damage during the installation process, touch any of the unpainted metal surfaces on your computer's frame before handling and installing memory.

  6. Using your system's owner's manual, locate your computer's memory expansion slots. Do not use any tools in the removal or installation of memory modules.
  7. Insert your new memory module(s) in accordance with the illustrations in this guide. Align the notch(es) on the module with the notch(es) in the slot, and then press the module down until the clips on the slot snap into place. (It can take 20 to 30 pounds of pressure to install a module.) Fill the memory slots on your computer starting with the highest density (i.e. put the highest density module in bank 0).
  8. Once the module(s) have been installed, replace the cover on your computer and reconnect the power cord or battery. Installation is now complete.

Helpful hints & troubleshooting tips

If your system does not boot, check the following:

  1. If you receive an error message or hear a series of beeps, your system may not be recognizing the new memory. Remove and reinstall the modules to ensure they are securely seated in the slots.
  2. If your system won't boot, check all of the connections inside your computer. It is easy to bump a cable and pull it out of its connector, disabling devices such as your hard drive or CD-ROM. If your system still won't reboot, contact Crucial Technical Support.
  3. When restarting your system, you may get a message prompting you to update the configuration settings. Refer to your owner's manual for information. If you are still unsure, please call Crucial Technical Support for assistance.
  4. If you get a memory mismatch message, follow the prompts to enter the Setup menu, and then select Save and Exit. (This is not an error—some systems must do this to update the system settings.)

If you have any issues with installation, contact Crucial support with any questions or concerns.
