Frequently Asked Questions - CS200 MCINTOSH

What is the recommended amplifier power for the McIntosh CS200?
The CS200 is rated for 50 to 200 watts RMS per channel. It performs best with a quality amplifier within this range.
Can I bi-wire the CS200 speakers?
Yes, the binding posts are gold-plated and support bi-wiring or bi-amping. Remove the jumpers between the posts to separate the tweeter and woofer circuits.
What is the impedance of the CS200?
The nominal impedance is 8 ohms, making them compatible with most amplifiers and receivers.
How should I position the CS200 speakers for best sound?
Place them at ear level when seated, at least 2 feet from walls to avoid bass boom. Angle them slightly toward the listening position for optimal imaging.
Do the CS200 speakers require a subwoofer?
They provide solid bass down to 45 Hz. For deeper bass or home theater use, adding a subwoofer is recommended.
How do I clean the CS200 speaker cabinets?
Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to dust the cabinet. For grilles, gently vacuum with a brush attachment. Do not use any liquid cleaners.
What type of crossover does the CS200 use?
It uses a 2-way crossover at 2.5 kHz with high-quality components for smooth transition between the tweeter and woofer.
Are the CS200 speakers shielded?
No, they are not magnetically shielded. Keep them at least 12 inches away from CRT TVs or sensitive devices.
Can I use the CS200 in a home theater setup?
Yes, they work well as front or rear speakers. Ensure your receiver can handle 8-ohm speakers and matches power requirements.
Where can I find replacement parts or service for the CS200?
Contact an authorized McIntosh service center. Avoid third-party parts to maintain performance and warranty.

Ready To Perform

The CS200 Ceiling Loudspeaker System is designed to provide exceptional performance. This 3-way speaker features an 8 inch Woven Glass Fiber Woofer. Above the Woofer sits an adjustable array with a Titanium Dome tweeter and two Titanium Inverted Dome midrange speakers from McIntosh's acclaimed XRT speaker line. The Midrange drivers and Tweeter are arranged in a modified MTM array for optimal performance of the high-end drivers.

The Low Profile Micro-Flange Grill is magnetically held in place. These grills are ready to be painted if you wish.

Choosing the Right Spot

There are a few important things to consider when choosing a location to mount the CS200:

- Can the location support at least 5 times the weight of the CS200? This will be a vibrating mass located possibly above your head. Make sure the material where the CS200 will be mounted can hold more than 30 pounds and is at least 3/8 inch (0.9525cm) thick and a maximum of 2 inches (5.08cm). A depth of at least 5 inches (12.7cm) is required.

- Can you run the necessary wires to the CS200?

- Is the position optimal for the purpose the speaker will serve? Obviously, 2-channel and home theater applications will have different speaker placement considerations. Your McIntosh Dealer is an excellent resource for speaker installation.

- Are there any obstacles that should be avoided like heating and cooling ducts or high humidity from a shower or sauna? And, of course, you should obey all applicable building codes.

Installation

  1. After choosing the right spot, use the supplied template to mark the area to be cut out.

  2. For dry wall installation, use a drywall knife or saw to cut a hole (see figure 1.1 on page 4). The hole should be 9-5/8 inches (24.4475 cm) in diameter. The full diameter of the CS200 is 11 inches (27.94cm) For new construction, the RK200 rough-in bracket is recommended. The RK200 is available from your McIntosh Dealer.

  3. Prepare Speaker Wires for connection to the CS200. Remove 12 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the wire end and twist the strands together. For runs under 25 feet use at least 16AWG wire. For runs under 50 feet use at least 14AWG, and for longer runs up to 100 feet use 12AWG. 12AWG, being the larger wire, can be used in all the above cases if desired. Thicker wire may not fit in the speaker terminals.

  4. Connect the exposed end of the wires to the spring-loaded terminals. Push the terminal to open the hole. Insert the wire making sure no loose strands are exposed. Connect the positive speaker wire to the red terminal and the negative to the black terminal. Releasing the terminal will provide a secure connection.

MCINTOSH CS200 - Installation - 1

natural_image Close-up of a hand placing electronic components on a black circular base (no visible text or symbols)
  1. Carefully place the CS200 in the opening you prepared in Step 2. You may choose to place some fiberglass insulation loosely behind the speaker for better isolation.

  2. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the 4 clamping screws one turn counter-clockwise (see diagrams on page 4). This will release the clamp. Note the four clamp screws will be higher than the nearby recessed screws.

  3. Tighten the four screws evenly, turning each one slightly in turn until each is tight.

  4. Carefully install the Grille. The Grille is held in place by magnets.

  5. Enjoy.

Fine Tune

The Tweeter/Midrange Driver Array can be rotated around the edge of the CS200 to make fine adjustments. Loosen the two screws on either side of the tweeter a few turns. This will allow the Array to slide back and forth slightly. When the optimum position is determined through careful listening, tighten the two screws.

Larger adjustments can be made by loosening the four clamping screws and rotating the entire CS200. Be sure to re-tighten screws when done.
