Frequently Asked Questions - GCS1102 IOGEAR

How do I switch between computers?
You can switch between computers using the front panel pushbuttons or hotkey commands. For front panel, press a port button once to switch KVM focus, press and hold for 2 seconds to switch all (KVM, audio, USB), or press twice rapidly for audio focus. For hotkeys, press [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] then [n] [Enter] (where n is the port number) to switch all focus to a specific port.
Can I use this switch with a VGA monitor?
Yes, but you need a DVI-I monitor and cable, plus a VGA-to-DVI-A adapter for each VGA computer. The switch itself only supports DVI-D signals, so a DVI-I cable and adapter are required to convert VGA analog signals to DVI-A analog. Ensure all connections are properly made and devices are powered off during setup.
What is the difference between DVI-A, DVI-D, and DVI-I?
DVI-A transmits analog signals only, DVI-D transmits digital signals only, and DVI-I transmits both analog and digital signals. The GCS1102 uses DVI-D ports, so it only accepts digital signals. To use analog sources, adapters are required.
How do I perform a firmware upgrade?
First, download the latest firmware from www.iogear.com. Connect the KVM switch to a computer via USB (using the peripheral sharing ports). Invoke Firmware Upgrade Mode by pressing [Num Lock] [-] [u] [p] [g] [r] [a] [d] [e] [Enter] in HSM. Run the upgrade utility and follow on-screen instructions. The switch will reset automatically after a successful upgrade.
How do I reset to factory default settings?
Enter Hotkey Setting Mode (HSM) by pressing and holding [Num Lock], then [-], then release [Num Lock]. Then press [r] [Enter] to restore all default settings. The beeper will confirm the reset.
Can I use a Mac keyboard with this KVM switch?
Yes, enable Mac keyboard emulation in HSM by pressing [F2]. The PC keyboard will then emulate Mac functions (e.g., Ctrl = Command). For specific key mappings, refer to the manual's Mac Keyboard Emulation table.
How do I enable autoscan mode?
You can activate autoscan by pressing and holding both port 1 and port 2 pushbuttons simultaneously for 2 seconds (default 5-second scan interval). Alternatively, use hotkeys: press [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [a] [n] [Enter] where n is the scan interval in seconds (1-99).
The front panel pushbutton doesn't work as expected. How can I change its mode?
The front panel pushbutton has two modes. Mode 1 (default): press once for KVM focus, press and hold for 2 seconds for all focus, press twice for audio focus. Mode 2: press once for all focus, press and hold for 2 seconds for KVM focus, press twice for audio focus. To toggle between modes, enter HSM and press [s].
My keyboard or mouse is not working. What should I do?
First, ensure the console USB keyboard and mouse are connected to the correct ports (top two USB ports on front panel). If still not working, try a USB reset: enter HSM and press [F5]. Also check that the keyboard operating platform is set correctly; in HSM, press [F10] for auto-detect.
What cables are included with the GCS1102?
The package includes 2 DVI-D KVM combo cables (each with DVI-D, USB, audio, and mic connectors). Also included are a power adapter, installation guide, and warranty card. Additional cables can be purchased separately from IOGEAR.
