Frequently Asked Questions - CSPM-4 JBL

How do I connect the JBL CSPM-4 microphone to my computer?
Connect the microphone's USB cable to an available USB port on your computer. The microphone should be automatically recognized as an audio input device. If not, check your system audio settings to select it.
Why is there no sound coming from the microphone?
First, ensure the mute button is not activated (LED should be off when unmuted). Check that the microphone is selected as the default input device in your computer's sound settings. Also, verify that the USB connection is secure and try a different USB port.
Can I use this microphone with a smartphone?
The JBL CSPM-4 is designed primarily for computers via USB. It may work with some smartphones that support USB audio, but compatibility is not guaranteed. An OTG adapter might be needed for Android devices.
How do I adjust the microphone volume?
Use the volume control wheel on the microphone body to adjust the input level. Additionally, you can adjust the microphone volume in your computer's system sound settings.
What is the polar pattern of this microphone?
The JBL CSPM-4 features a cardioid polar pattern, which picks up sound primarily from the front and minimizes background noise from the sides and rear.
How do I clean the microphone?
Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the exterior. Avoid using any liquids or abrasive cleaners. For the grille, you can use a small brush to remove dust.
Does the microphone require drivers?
No, the JBL CSPM-4 is plug-and-play and works with standard USB audio drivers included in Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS. No additional installation is needed.
What is the frequency response range?
The microphone has a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz, making it suitable for voice and general audio recording.
Can I use the microphone with a boom arm?
The microphone has a built-in desktop stand. If you wish to use a boom arm, you may need a compatible adapter (not included) since the microphone does not have a standard thread mount.
How do I know if the microphone is muted?
The LED indicator on the microphone will light up (typically red) when muted. Press the mute button to toggle the mute status; the LED will turn off when unmuted.

Maintain a gap between the speaker's mouth and the microphone, and do not exceed the maximum bend angle. Only bend the flexible part of the microphone.

In the case of microphones with cardioid polar pattern, most sound attenuation occurs at 180°. These microphones should preferably be used where there is an interference noise source or a loudspeaker directly opposite the speaker.

NOTE: the CSM-21's 'Page Assign' pins ensure compatibility with microphones that contain a contact closure for muting the mic. Since the CSPM-1 has an audio mute switch and not a contact closure, these 'Page Assign' pins must be shorted together for proper operation when using the CSPM-1. CSPM-1
