Frequently Asked Questions - FSU122 Farberware

How do I clean the coffee urn after use?
Unplug and let it cool. Remove cover, basket, and pump tube carefully. Wash the urn body with water and detergent without immersing the base. The cover, basket, and pump tube can be placed in the dishwasher. Rinse all parts thoroughly and dry. Store with the cover off.
What type of coffee should I use?
Use regular or percolator grind coffee. The basket should be wet to prevent small particles from sifting through. The manual provides a chart for coffee amounts per cup, e.g., 1 cup (standard measuring cup) for 10 cups of brewed coffee.
How much coffee do I need for 30 cups?
For 30 cups, use 3 standard measuring cups of ground coffee. This yields a medium brew; adjust to taste.
Can I make hot fruit or wine punches with this urn?
Yes, hot fruit or wine punches may be prepared in the Coffee Urn. Follow the same filling and brewing instructions, but ensure the spigot is closed and the urn is not overfilled.
What is the warranty coverage?
The Farberware Coffee Urn comes with a one-year limited warranty for the original consumer purchaser. It covers defective materials or workmanship. The warranty is void if damaged by accident, misuse, or unauthorized repairs.
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, a longer detachable cord or extension cord may be used if care is exercised. The electrical rating must be at least as great as the appliance. Arrange the cord so it does not drape over edges where it can be pulled or tripped over.
Why does the washer at the bottom of the pump tube need to remain loose?
The washer must stay loose to allow proper water flow during percolation. If coffee grounds lodge in that area, remove them under running water or with a wooden pick to prevent clogging.
How do I remove coffee stains and oil buildup?
After repeated use, remove accumulation with a special cleanser like 'Dip-It'. Fill the urn with water to 1-1/2 inches from the top, add the cleanser, and follow package directions. Rinse thoroughly to avoid bitter taste.
What should I do if the spigot leaks?
Ensure the spigot is fully closed before filling. If leaking persists, check the washer or seal. Contact consumer service for assistance. Do not overfill the urn.
How should I store the coffee urn?
After cleaning and drying, store the urn with the cover off to allow air circulation. Keep all parts dry and in a cool, dry place. Do not stack items on top.

USE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

MODEL NOS. FSU122, 236, 255

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  3. To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord, plugs, or base in water or other liquid.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by near children.
  5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended or sold by FARBERWARE® may cause hazards.
  8. Do not use outdoors.
  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  12. When connecting an appliance, always take hold of the plug — never the cord — and attach to appliance first, then plug into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn the heat control to "OFF," then remove plug from wall outlet first, in the same manner.
  13. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS

A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.

If a longer detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used, (1) the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and (2) the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
