Frequently Asked Questions - 62T APPA

How do I measure DC voltage?

Turn the dial to the V-- (DC voltage) range. Insert the black lead into the COM jack and the red lead into the V/Ω jack. Connect the test probes across the circuit. Read the voltage on the display.

What does 'OL' on the display mean?

'OL' stands for Over Limit, indicating that the measured value exceeds the selected range. Switch to a higher range to get a reading.

How do I replace the battery?

Set the rotary switch to OFF. Remove the battery compartment screw on the back. Replace the 9V battery with a new one, ensuring correct polarity. Close and screw the compartment.

Can I measure current without breaking the circuit?

No, to measure current the meter must be connected in series with the load. Use the 10A or mA range as appropriate.

Why does the meter show a resistance reading when probes are open?

This is normal for some ranges. The display may show '1' or a fluctuating value due to leakage. Short the probes to verify zero: the reading should be near 0Ω.

How do I test continuity?

Set the dial to the continuity symbol (usually a diode/audio symbol). Insert leads as for resistance. Touch probes together; you should hear a beep. Then test the circuit: a beep indicates a connection.

What is the maximum input voltage?

The maximum safe input voltage is 600V AC or DC. Do not exceed this, or the meter may be damaged.

How do I use the Data Hold function?

Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.

Why does the meter turn off automatically?

The Auto Power Off feature saves battery life. It typically turns off after 15-30 minutes of inactivity. Move the rotary switch or press any button to wake it up.

Can I measure capacitance?

Yes, set the dial to the capacitance range (often marked 'F'). Discharge the capacitor first. Insert the leads (red to the positive side). Read the value. For large capacitors, allow a few seconds for stabilization.

Safety Information

Understand and follow operating instructions carefully. Use the meter only as specified in this manual, otherwise, the protection provided by the meter may be impaired.

A WARNING

• When using test loads or probes, keep your fingers behind the finger guards.
• Remove test lead from Meter before opening the battery door or Meter case.
• Use the Meter only as specified in this manual or the protection by the Meter might be impaired.
• Always use proper terminals, switch position, and carpal for current currents.
• Never attempt a voltage measurement with the test load injected into the A input terminal.
• Verify the Motor's operation by measuring a known voltage. If in vitro, have the Motor carried
  • Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as
  marked on Meter, between terminals or between any terminal and earth ground.
• Do not attempt a current measurement when the open voltage is above the fuse protection rating. Suspected open circuit voltage can be checked with voltage function.
• Only replace the brown fuse with the proper rating as specified in this manual.
• Use caution with voltages above 30 Vdc rms. 42 Vdc peak, or 60 Vdc. These voltages pose a shock hazard.

Non-Contact Voltage (Volt sense)

1. Volt sense switch will be activated on any function or at OFF status.
2. Test leads are not used for the Volt sense test. 3. Press the Volt sense button. The display goes black, a tone sounds and the red LED lights up to verify the instrument is operational. The Volt sense button must be held down to detect the presence of voltage without use of the leads.
4. If a voltage of 50V to 600V (50 to 500Hz) is detected near the top of meter a continuous tone sounds and the red LED near the top of meter illuminates.
