Frequently Asked Questions - BDWA-516W WILFA

How do I clean the waffle maker?
Unplug the device and let it cool completely. Wipe the non-stick plates with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the waffle maker in water.
Why are my waffles sticking to the plates?
Ensure the plates are properly preheated and lightly greased with cooking spray or a small amount of oil before adding batter. Overfilling can also cause sticking.
How do I adjust the browning level?
Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting (usually 1-5). A lower setting gives lighter waffles, higher gives darker. Experiment to find your preference.
What should I do before first use?
Remove all packaging, wash the plates with a damp cloth, and dry. Heat the waffle maker for about 10 minutes without batter to burn off any residue. Let it cool, then wipe again.
How does the indicator light work?
When plugged in, the power light turns on. The ready light turns on when the waffle maker reaches the set temperature. When the ready light goes out, it's time to pour batter; it will come back on as the waffle cooks, indicating it's done.
Can I store the waffle maker upright?
No, the BDWA-516W is designed to be stored flat. It has a cord wrap underneath for tidy storage. Do not store while still hot.
What type of batter is recommended?
Use standard waffle batter or any recipe suitable for Belgian waffles. Avoid batters with large chunks that may burn. The non-stick surface works well with most batters.
Does the waffle maker have an automatic shut-off?
Yes, the waffle maker includes an auto shut-off feature that turns it off after a period of inactivity to prevent overheating. However, it is recommended to unplug when not in use.
Where can I find replacement plates?
Replacement non-stick plates for the BDWA-516W can be ordered from Wilfa's authorized service centers or the official Wilfa website. Check your manual for part numbers.
What is the warranty period?
Wilfa offers a standard 2-year warranty on the BDWA-516W waffle maker. Warranty covers manufacturing defects but not misuse or normal wear. Register your product online for full coverage.

FIRST TIME USE

Before using the appliance for the first time, clean the baking plates with a damp cloth. We recommend that you season the baking plates with a little oil the first time you use the appliance. You do not need to repeat this later. The first two waffles should not be eaten. The use of cooking spray in the waffle iron is not recommended.

HOW TO MAKE WAFFLES

  1. Close the waffle iron and prepare the batter while the waffle iron heats up.
  2. The indicator light around the thermostat button is red. When the indicator light turns green (after about 4 minutes), the waffle iron is ready for baking.
  3. Open the waffle iron and pour the batter into the middle of each of the lower baking plates. Close the appliance carefully. Do not force it together. Steam may be emitted between the baking plates.
  4. When the green indicator light goes out, a red light comes on. After several minutes, the green light comes on again, indicating that the waffles are ready.
  5. If you think the waffles are too dark or too light, adjust the thermostat.

NB!

  • Ensure that your fingers do not come into contact with the baking plates.
  • During baking, the red light will switch on and off and the thermostat will keep the waffle iron at the appropriate temperature.
  • Waffles are cooked in about 3 minutes or longer, depending on your personal taste. When the waffles are ready, open the waffle iron and remove the waffle with a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use a metal knife, as this may damage the non-stick coating.
  • The appliance must be kept closed between baking.
    • After use, pull the plug out of the socket.

USEFUL TIPS

  • Always pre-heat the waffle iron before baking. First insert the plug, and then prepare the batter while the waffle iron heats up
  • If you want light-coloured waffles, slide the thermostat down (to the left). If you prefer darker waffles, slide the thermostat up (to the right)..
  • If the cover does not open easily, leave the waffle to bake for a little longer and then try to lift the cover again.
  • If the waffle sticks to the upper baking plate, remove it using a plastic or

wooden spatula.

  • To avoid burning your mouth, allow the waffle to cool slightly on a wire rack before eating.
    • Garnish baked waffles with fruit or ice cream to create your own specialities.

CLEANING

  • Always pull out the plug before cleaning and allow the appliance to cool down.
  • Do not immerse the appliance in water or hold it under running water.
  • Wipe the upper surface of the waffle iron with a slightly damp cloth.
  • Use kitchen paper or another suitable cloth to clean the baking plates after they have cooled down.
  • Never use sharp or pointed objects or abrasive powder to clean.
