MODE D'EMPLOI ULTRASTAR 36LP HITACHI
IBM Ultrastar 36LP hard disk drive
Highlights
Capacities of 36, 18, and 9 GB and an areal density of 6.4 Gbits/sq. in. provide superior data storage in a low-profile drive.
Average seek times as fast as 6.8 ms and sustained data rates of up to 31.9 MB/sec enable rapid data transfer.
Large 4 MB buffer sizes and automatic buffer transfer provide outstanding performance—especially for large data transfers and other sequential operations.
Active damping, load/unload technology, and glass substrate disks enhance reliability and robustness to prolong drive lifetime.
Ultra160 SCSI provides the fastest SCSI data transfer rate.
An efficient electronic design enables low power dissipation—improving reliability and easing integration.
Outstanding performance from proven drive technology
The IBM Ultrastar* 36LP is designed to provide a reliable, cost-effective storage solution for a wide range of workstations, high-performance desktop systems, and LAN and enterprise servers running a variety of Internet, intranet, CAD/CAM, multimedia, transaction processing, and data mining applications.
IBM Ultrastar 36LP drives achieve a high level of reliability, performance, and affordability by leveraging advanced IBM disk drive technologies, including: giant magnetoresistive (GMR) head technology, No-ID* sector formatting, the Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) digital data channel, and a new integrated Large Scale Integration (LSI) chip for advanced hardware automation.
Maximum reliability
To help ensure the maximum data protection possible, IBM Ultrastar drives include IBM-exclusive reporting tools, such as Predictive Failure Analysis (to alert users about potential drive problems) and Drive-TIP (to monitor drive temperatures and avoid malfunctions).
Reliability is further enhanced through load/unload technology, glass substrate disks, and active damping, which stabilizes head movement even under extreme conditions. Together, these
technologies provide a more robust solution. In addition, IBM Ultrastar drives have fewer components than other drives, a factor that reduces the possibility of component failure.
Outstanding environments
An efficient electronic design enables low power requirements. Exclusive enhanced power standby modes are triggered by read/write inactivity to help minimize power use. Excellent acoustics enable quiet operation, which is essential for workstation environments.
Advanced interfaces
IBM Ultrastar 36LP drives support Ultra2 SCSI and Ultra160 SCSI interfaces.
