PRECAUTIONS

Follow the instructions below to ensure the product is used safely and correctly.

PLACEMENT

. Do not use the unit in places which are extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid.
. Place the unit on a flat, level surface.
. Do not restrict the airflow of the unit by placing it in a place with poor ventilation, covering it with a cloth or placing it on a carpet.
. Do not place the unit close to heat sources.
. Use the unit only in moderate climates (not in tropical climates).
. Do not expose the unit to rain or splash with water.
. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.

SAFETY

. When connecting and disconnecting the AC power cord from the AC mains outlet, take hold of the plug and not the cord itself. Pulling the cord may damage it and may be dangerous.
. The AC mains outlet and plug must always be easily accessible.
. When you are not going to use the unit for a long period of time, disconnect the AC power cord from the AC mains outlet.

AC VOLTAGE

. Before use, check that the rated voltage of your unit matches your local voltage.

CONDENSATION

. The unit may not work properly if it has condensation inside.
. Unplug the unit for 1 to 2 hours before turning the power back on, or gradually heat the room up and dry the unit before use.
. Ensure a minimum distance of 5 cm around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation.
. Ensure a space of at least 5 cm around the apparatus to enable sufficient ventilation.

. Pay attention to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.

POWER SUPPLY

AC power supply

Insert the AC adapter power adapter into the AC mains outlet with a 230V AC \~ 50Hz power source and the other end of the cord into the AC IN 9V jack at the back of the unit.

Installing the clock back up battery

The clock time can be maintained during a power failure by using 2 x AA/ LR06 batteries (not supplied). However, the time may go forward or back slightly and may need resetting.

Battery insertion

  1. Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit by pressing on the catch whilst removing the cover.
  2. Insert 2 x AA/ LR06 batteries (alkaline batteries are recommended) into the battery compartment, following the polarity as shown on the diagram inside the compartment.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover

Precautions when using batteries

  1. Replace only with batteries of the same or equivalent type.
  2. Exhausted batteries must be removed to prevent possible leakage.
  3. Dispose of the batteries properly in accordance with the environmental regulations in force.

BASIC OPERATION

ON/ Standby mode

When it is connected to a power supply (refer to POWER SUPPLY), the unit goes to standby mode and the clock time is displayed. Press the ⏻/ON/AL OFF button to turn on the unit. The ON LED indicator lights up. Press it again to go back to standby mode.

Setting the time

Setting the clock time

  1. In standby mode, hold down the CLK SET button and use the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons to set the hours.
  2. Press the CLK SET button to confirm and use the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons to set the minutes. Press the CLK SET button to confirm the setting.

Setting the alarm time

  1. Press the AL SET button to display the alarm time. Hold down the AL SET button and use the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons to set the hours.
  2. Press the AL SET button to confirm and use the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons to set the minutes. Press the AL SET button to confirm the setting.

Using the alarm

The unit allows you to wake up to a buzzer or to music (AM/FM/iPod).

  1. To set the alarm time, follow the steps in "Setting the alarm time".

  2. To enable the alarm function, press and hold down the AL SET button. Set the iPod/RADIO/BUZZ switch to iPod or RADIO if you want to wake up to music or BUZZ if you want to wake up to the sound of the buzzer. The AL indicator in the bottom left-hand corner of the display lights up.

When you choose to wake up to iPod, the alarm clock radio will start to play the last track it played before the unit was switched off. This means you can choose which song you will to wake up to.

  1. When the preset alarm time is reached, the buzzer or music will start up.

  2. To stop the alarm, press the ⏻/ON/AL OFF button. The alarm will sound again at the same time the next day.

  3. To disable the alarm function, press and hold down the AL SET button.

Note:

  • While the buzzer alarm volume is fixed and cannot be adjusted, the music alarm volume can be adjusted to your desired level using the VOLUME dial.
  • If iPOD mode is selected, make sure the iPod is inserted in the docking station and the volume is set to a suitable level.

Snooze function

When the alarm sounds, press the SNOOZE button to stop the alarm temporarily. It will come on again after 9 minutes. To cancel the SNOOZE function and repeat the alarm the next day, press the ⏻/ON/AL OFF button.

Sleep function

This function allows you to program the unit so that it switches off automatically after a certain time (up to 1 hour and 59 minutes).

  1. In standby mode, press and hold down the SLEEP button: "120" is displayed. The unit turns on.
  2. Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to select a duration: 120, 90, 60, 30, 15, 0.
  3. At the end of the set time, the unit turns off automatically.
  4. To cancel the sleep function before the preset time has ended, press the SNOOZE or ⏻/ON/AL OFF button to turn off the unit immediately.

Dimmer control

Slide the DIMMER LO-HI switch to set the clock display brightness.

Connecting headphones

Plug your headphones (not supplied) into the headphones jack at the back of the unit for private listening. The speaker output will be shut off automatically.

RADIO OPERATION

Listening to the radio

  1. Press the ⏻/ON/AL OFF button to turn on the unit.
  2. Pass the AM/FM button to select AM or FM. When FM is selected, the FM LED indicator lights up.
    Note: In iPod mode, press the AM/FM button to switch to radio mode. Press it again to select AM or FM.

  3. Turn the TUNING dial to select a radio frequency. The tuning scale shows the selected frequency.

  4. Adjust sound volume level by turning the VOLUME dial.
  5. To turn off the unit, press the ⏻/ON/AL OFF button.

For optimum reception

In FM mode, extend and position the FM antenna to achieve optimum reception. In AM mode, orientate the unit to achieve optimum reception.

PLAYING AN iPod AND CHARGING THE INTERNAL iPod BATTERY

Installing an adapter on the iPod docking station

  1. Use the iPod adapter supplied with your iPod.
  2. Place the adapter on the docking station at the top of the unit with the two tabs facing forwards.
  3. To remove the adapter, press at the back of the adapter and pull it up.

Note: Ensure that the iPod adapter is installed in a stable way with good electrical contact.

Listening to your iPod

  1. With the iPod adapter installed, gently place the iPod (without the protective cover) in the docking station.
  2. Press the ▶ button to play the music in the iPod.
  3. Press the ▶ button to pause playback. Press it again to resume normal playback.
  4. Press the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons repeatedly to skip to the previous or next track.
  5. Press and hold down the ◀◀ / ▶▶ buttons to move fast forward or back.
  6. Alternatively, you can use the buttons on your iPod to carry out these operations.

Note:

  • The internal iPod battery will charge until it is fully charged. Adjust the volume control on the unit to the desired volume level.
  • To prevent sound distortion during iPod playback on this unit, the EQ function in your iPod must be set to "Off".
  • The docking station is not designed for playing or charging an iPod Shuffle, but it is possible to connect the iPod's line out or headphones jack to the unit's LINE IN jack.

LINE IN FUNCTION

This unit has a LINE IN jack, which allows you to connect external audio devices such as MP3 players or earlier iPod models.

  1. Connect a 3.5mm stereo connection cable (not supplied) to the LINE IN jack at the back of the unit and the headphones/line out jack on your external audio device.
  2. Operate your external audio device as usual to select and play music.
  3. Adjust the volume controls on both your external audio device and this unit to the desired volume level.

Note: If an external device is connected to the unit through the LINE IN jack and an iPod is inserted in the iPod dock at the same time, the unit will play the music from the LINE IN jack only.

MAINTENANCE

Care and maintenance

To clean the casing, unplug the unit and wipe off dust and stains with a soft, damp cloth. Never use benzene, thinner or similar chemicals to clean the casing.
